  1. One guy's opinion (ArmchairGM.com)

It must be true. It was on the internet.

    Kansas

    FIU, August 30

    Louisiana Tech, September 6

    @ South Florida, September 13

    Sam Houston St, September 20

One great game against USF doesn't make up for another season of scheduling down in every other game.

    Kansas St

    North Texas, August 30

    Montana St, September 6

    @ Louisville, September 17

    Louisiana Lafayette, September 27

The Wildcats get a spot here for wussing out of an opening game against Fresno St, not to mention scheduling down in three games like their Sunflower State rival above.

    Texas Tech

    Eastern Washington, August 30

    @ Nevada, September 6

    SMU, September 13

    Massachusetts, September 20

The best Texas Tech team in years will be playing one of the weakest non-conference slates. Embarrassing and sad.

He also had NU vs VTech as the 5th best non-conference game.

  2. Folks, I want to remind everyone that we generally don't permit "advertising" of other sites that could be "in competition" with HuskerBoard. HuskerBoard has it's own blog, and PhillyHusker's blog also advertises Husker gear. Since this site remains free primarily due to such things as links to various businesses that offer Husker gear (just see my sig, for example), we naturally want to keep business in the family, so to speak.

Another reminder - we ask that if you want to post a link to an outside source in your signature, please contact the mods and run it by them. This allows us some degree of control to ensure that inappropriate material (porn, warez, etc.) aren't being advertised on the Board. We won't be hard asses about it, so most would be approved.

    Thanks, all.

    What's warez?

  3. Stay in Lincoln - I-80 is bumper to bumper on game days. I always wonder what an oblivious traveler thinks going from Chicago to Denver when then the traffic hits on a Saturday morning between Omaha and Lincoln.

  4. Honestly, it's been my experience that the best coaches were never the best players. It's usually the second or third teamer's. The reason is they usually weren't the best athletes and had to work there tail off perfecting every technique, watching extra film and asked the most questions.

    Agreed

Tommy Frazier and Doane as a prime example

  5.

I told him I didn't think there were very many if any that have ever tested positive. Does anyone know if some players have??

Falls under the umbrella of Code words: "Dismissed from ____ University for violation of team rules"

  6. What's actually a little surprising is that there haven't been more transfers. It seems that whenever there is a coaching change at any school, you can expect a good 10 to 12 players leaving.

I hope that the lack of transfers is indicative of the players finding the new staff to be a refreshing change - can't think of any other reason to explain it.

Does anyone have the number of transfers from UNL after Solich left?

  7. CU would have not fared well in the PAc 10. Their closest road game would have been almost 900 miles... that would suck.

Nebraska was not an awful fit fo the Big10 a little closer...

Not sure I am buying that things were going to explode, CU was thinking of Leaving, but not sure NU was very seriously considering it...

The most serious talk involved CU, but as a ripple effect I seem to remember MU talking with Big Can't count conference, and OU looking at either Pac 10 or SWC to replace Ark who jumped to SEC. NU was going to be left out, Big Can't count didn't want us, Pac 10 was too far - there was local "concern" that NU was going to be independent or join the "gasp" WAC. Which spurred NU to help push for the "merge of the B8 and SWC"

  8. Before the Big 12, and the Big 8 was going to explode - CU to Pac 10, OU to Southwest or SEC, KSUcks to Mo Valley (Hah!, they might even win the conference FB title) MU to Big 10 - NU was interested in Big 10 too, but were not "up to the tough Big 10 academic standards". Tell me again, how many teams are in the Big 10?

Anyhoo - If NU DID get into the Big 10, the Big 8 went the way of the Southwest Conf, what would the past 10 years of Husker FB been like . . . .

    More off season drivel.

  9. The troubled LSU QB was dismissed. Do you think that Pelini might try and get him here? Do we even want him? Great talent but needs to get his head on straight. He could help us tremendously.

First thing I thought when I heard the news and then I remembered, Callahan isn't coaching this team any longer so nah.

If he wasn't good enough to beat out Matt Ryan Flynn, he wouldn't be able to start for Nebraska anyway.

Though I do wonder what he'll do. Perhaps supplemental draft (7th round to the Bears) or I-AA.

    Edited.

Or for a better fit - the Bengals

  10. If you think KU is coming into lincoln and hang 70 on us you are dillusional. I think it will be a good game and you should be favored just because of last year. Don't be suprised if you run into a brick wall here though. You beat a team last year without a spine and they were defeated before they put their pads on. This years team will stand and fight. It should be a fun season

This says everything I was going to say.

Plus, Pelini is probably the best defensive mind in college football. He'll figure something out. Heck, even old Cosgrove was bright enough to figure out how to shut down Missouri in 2006.

Yes but Cosgrove was coaching against Pinkel, who until this past year pulled multiple bone-head moves per game. Just ask Cy about Pinkel's legendary play calling.

  11. just got drafted by the Patriots

Nicks went much later than expected - must have been his alcohol related problems. So who drafted him? New "Bourbon Street" Orleans!

  12. Here is the best post in that thread:

from: Chet Stedman on Yesterday at 08:07:39 pm

For me the question isn't IF Jordy will break the records but how many years it will take him. Rice played 21 seasons in the NFL, 303 games. He caught 1549 balls for 22,895 yards and 197 TD's. He scored a total of 208 TD's (counting rushing ect..).

Jordy in 12 games caught 122 balls for 1606 yards and 11 touchdowns. So add another 4 game onto those stats and its an extra 30.5 balls rounded to 31 (153), 401.5 yards rounded to 402 (2008), an extra 2.75 TD's rounded off for 14.

Thus in an average 16 game season Jordy will have 153 catches, 2008 yards and 14 TD's. Then IMO you have to give bonuses for a better running game, quarterback, and training program....so bump up the catches by 20, the yards by 250 and give a couple extra TD's. Thus 173 catches 2258 yards and 15 TD's.

So after 10 years of that he should have the catches and yards wrapped up easily b/c I didn't even take into account his talent improving somehow. On that average he will be at 150 TD's, which you can probably bump up to 170 due to aforementioned talent increases. Thus roughly in the middle of his 12th season Jordy should have that record wrapped up too.

    Flawless logic.

    Flawless logic, indeed.

    More flawless logic follows:

Joe Dailey vs. Baylor, Oct. 16, 2004 threw for 342 yards

342 x 16 NFL games = 5472 yards per year, since he will have better receivers (and an offensive line) round that up to 7000 yds.

    7000 x 37 year career because he's ripped = 259,000 career yards

    Beat that Josh!!!!!!!!

  13. Not sure if this has been posted yet!

    KSU

    White 3

    Purple 0

    yes that is correct 3-0.....

    Freeman's stats

    1-4 for 9 yards and 1 pick!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.kstatesports.com/ViewArticle.db...;ATCLID=1444130

Don't worry about them. Give them time to gel. Its a new system and Coach has had only had 15 practices with them, and the QB has had only 3 starts . . . .oh crap! that's NU

KSU really should be much further along than they are - and we were upset w/ Cally! I would be very surprised if Purple Prince lasts much longer.

  14. so we had an offense that ended the year scoring in bunches last year, but lost b/c our defense gave up 70 pts a game

by my account, i think our offense has a chance to be better this year,

    1. our qb is relatively proven, no one knew which keller we were going to get last year

    2. our backfield is stacked

    3. our line is as good, if not better, only thing we lost was nicks and burkes will fill that hole

    4. we have enough receivers to fill the void we lost, and with ganz running everywhere, receivers are bound to get open

    5. Cally aint here

  15. Nice to read the comments..agreeable or not...on my original posting. I do think Ganz is an alright QB. But he needs to do what many of you have said and just concentrate on getting better instead of commenting on "slights" that he perceives from fans and previous coaches. We all want the same thing..the best player to play PERIOD. If it is Ganz...great. If it is someone else..great. I don't second guess coaches pulling the trigger on who starts. They have more riding on their decisions than we do after all.

To those of you who think Callahan started Keller last year because of his friendship with his father, I disagree. I honestly believe that Callahan thought Keller outplayed Ganz in the practices. For Callahan to risk his coaching career by playing someone who he thought was not the best QB (Keller in this case) would be odd. I remember that Keller played pretty well in the Spring game last year and certainly looked like he was good enough before his injury. As many others have said, Keller was in the same boat that Ganz was in as far as playing from behind in almost every game and having to try to score. It just didn't seem like it earlier in the year because you had higher expectations for the team and defense. Was it either Keller's or Ganz's fault that the Defense was so horrendous that they felt so much pressure to score every time to compensate?

I would say Ganz was just below Keller on the depth chart and something that helped Keller (and is helping Ganz this year) is his EXPERIENCE in playing in D1 games. If not for that, Ganz would have more of a fight on his hands. I still think Zac Lee is a better QB and will probably show it when it is his time to start...whether that be this year or next year. It could be Witt too by then.

I just want Ganz to stop talking about any "slight" he feels and play the best he can. Or actually better than that.

I think that Ganz was responding honestly to a reporter's question and not trying to air dirty laundry. He's probably short on PR experience as well as game experience.

I agree that coaches want to win. Having been a youth coach, I had the team's intrests in mind while parents had their kids intrests first. I don't want NU fans split into QB factions - trust the coach who sees the players every day. If the coach makes poor decisions he can go to the Jets.

On experience, I would like to see more players get a series or two in the second quarter when the game is on the line - if Ganz had this type of experience throughout the year he would have been more prepared and maybe have gone 2-1. Damn, I am admiring Pinkel's coaching

I remember that Keller played pretty well in the Spring game last year against Coz's D, high school junior varsity quarterbacks would look good. :sarcasm

  16. I like this format better anyway....plus we don't have to worry so much about a number one taking out a number one. We just have to worry about a number two taking out a number one....lol.

:dunno With the old format all the ones were on the same team, so I dont see how we would worry less about a one taking out a one as in the old format a one never took on a one.

I think thats pretty irrelevant anyway because most injuries occur when just freak things happen not matter if its a one, two, or the kicker hitting them they could step wrong or just get hit funny.
