  1. Additionally, Fleck just canned his OC. I wonder what direction they will take their offense now?
  2. Carousel related: LSU making a strong push for Brian Kelly. Not a pick I saw them going for, but could be interesting.
  3. I think there's enough room in the offense for a QB that isn't quick like Smothers. McCall did a lot to make it go - he's very much a dual threat. Conversely, Coastal's level of play did drop markedly when McCall when down, so you do have a point there.
  4. Can't argue with any of that. I would posit that if 1)Frost truly hands the reins over to Korn (if he's the guy), and 2)the offensive line is blocking better than they did this year, we'll be running A LOT more option than we have under Frost so far.
  5. You're mostly right, with a few important exceptions. CC used a lot of 21 personnel, with 2 backs beside and/or behind the QB. They do the orbit motion that Frost picked up, but CC primarily runs triple with 2 actual running backs. Personally, I think this would be more effective.
  6. I never figured we had much more than a slim chance at running service academy stuff, if I'm one of the people you're referring to; wishful thinking on my part, more than anything. However, comma: There's some twitter smoke about Korn. Apparently he's very recently started following some Husker players and media people...
  7. Oh yeah, I forgot about Tanner Farmer and O'Brien. If we're going away from mobile QBs, our running game will need to improve, because we'll definitely need play action to get people open. I've been pretty clear on where I want the offense to go, but if we could get a game-manager like McNamara, we could at least sustain multiple drives a game. That would do wonders overall.
  8. Ah, maybe because Oklahoma is poaching Stoops from UK?
  9. This is the off-season content I'm here for. Next thing you know, there'll be another Tressel sighting on campus.
  10. Well, we did try from '04 - '07, and we got Zac Taylor (pretty good, admittedly. Not great.), Harrison Beck (huge bust), Sam Keller (eh), and Joey Ganz. I would agree that another Ganz-level guy would take us pretty far in this type of offense. Maybe Caleb Williams?
  11. This is pretty much what I was thinking. It seems the longer it takes, the worse off we'll be, like in late '03, early '04.
  12. I wish you were right, but history shows that we aren't going to get a Milton in Lincoln. Our last decent passer was who, Ganz?
  13. Does anyone know if there's some kind of time frame here? Like, when does Frost have to get these guys, whoever they are, picked, hired, and out recruiting?
  14. I saw 5 wins being the most likely outcome, and it's sad that I was too optimistic in that. I thought our linebackers were too young and wouldn't be ready for B1G play when Honas went down. But there is no excuse for getting a punt blocked like that in that situation. I'm in complete agreement that crap coaching is mostly to blame.
  15. Be nice to steal a guy away from Virginia and Mendenhall, after that depressing Hail Mary BYU got on us when Bronco was their coach...
  16. We scored in the 3rd quarter. It was actually a really good drive, too. After that, nothing. Meltdown. Good luck in the bowl game, goofers.
  17. Can't argue with that. Only name I've heard of there is Garrison.
  18. The offenses at Army, Air Force, and Coastal are all pretty good to very good. Coastal is the only 'balanced' offense, and they've all had success for several years at their current position.
  19. This might have been true, but Frost fired 4 guys on the offensive side of the ball. That's almost the definition of 'cutting your arm off.' He's even quoted as saying that he's going a different direction with the offense. I hope you're right, and all that's needed is some better coaching, but I see bigger problems than that. We've recruited well, but not nearly as well as Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and now Wisconsin. Looking ahead, the recruiting isn't going so great.
  20. Air Force has 9 wins, and was very close to making it to the MWC championship game. Army has 8, and probably 9 after they beat up the Middies. Coastal has 10 wins. Any of these guys would drastically improve our offense.
  21. Sean Snyder would be a good get. Success in special teams at both KSU and USC. I have a bad feeling that Frost and Co. have literally no clue who they're going to get at offensive coordinator or OL coach. This might get ugly.
  22. I absolutely disagree with that. If we run the ball, move the sticks, work the clock, then Iowa doesn't get the ball back, and we win. Callahan's 2 winning seasons is the standard? Callahan, really? Osborne's 'pro-style' offense was still, at most, 30% pass. I would LOVE that kind of offense now. He also went away from the 'pro-style' because Oklahoma was KILLING us with the Wishbone.
  23. Hey, if they come out next year running this stuff and put points on the board, I'll be the first to shut up and eat crow while doing it. I'm just saying that it's highly unlikely.
  24. The 'pro-style' offense from the 70's was still very much run-heavy. We passed, at most, 30% of the time. Don't forget that Osborne switched to an option-style look with Turner Gill because he was sick of being beat by Oklahoma and their option offense. I don't want Osborne's 90's offense back because he's the only one who could really coach it. But there are plenty of guys who coach good, ground-based offensive attacks out there today.
  25. Who cares what other B1G teams are doing? What significant achievements has Nebraska made with this 23 pts/game offense? Army did lose, but they did better than Nebraska with WAY less talent in comparison. That's the point. If Army can roll into Ann Arbor or Madison and put themselves in a position to win, with their talent level, why couldn't we do better while utilizing their scheme? We have much bigger and faster guys than they do. Who says we don't roll over teams? We had 129 yards rushing against Iowa. We're never going to win anything with 129 yards.
