  1. I dunked on former Husker basketball player Andy Markowski, he was 6'10". He was an assistant coach at USD when I went on a recruiting visit there and he was late in help defense rotation. Played against Seppo Evarywaye (sp?) in football and got owned by Kirk Hinrich in summer league games in high school. He was really good.
  2. My dad is the reason I'm a Husker fan, as I'm sure most of you are the same. Well we got some bad news that he had cancer (lymphoma) this fall and it hit me pretty hard. I decided that we were going to Colorado a long time ago. The awesome thing is this week we found out that he is almost clear of the cancer. Thank God for Chemotherapy. We went to Barry's and had red beers, hung out at the Marriot for the cheerleaders, got there early to watch the band and warmups, sat in my normal North End Zone seats and my Dad had chills from his first tunnell walk in 3 years. When that kick went through it was absolute pandamonium and we got caught up in just like everybody. Totally awesome moment, best I've ever had in that stadium. After the game was over and people were clearing out I told him I loved him and he teared up, almost cried which would have been a first for him in front of me. He said he loved me too, and said thanks for bringing him to the game. I'm just glad it isn't going to be the last game we go to together. Sorry for the mushy story, but that was pretty emotional and significant for us.
  3. This was posted in August....NU's record had nothing to do with anything at the time This thread is 4 or 5 pages long. I'm going to assume you read the entire thing including the back and forth replies as it matured You come on here and read a 5-month old post and then reply AFTER the season about how Missouri owns Nebraska and the North....Our coach has been around for one year and we're one conference win behind your 'ownership' of the North... This post was derived by reading multiple postings on this board alone about how great MU and KU were because of one good season. KU fans were going to win 10 this year and beat NU at home...and MU fans were talking National Championship all the way. That's going to be tough next year, as in my opinion...both teams are on the fall from last year and NU is rising. Losing your star players isn't going to help any. If you want to see hundreds of posts on the topic, just search the board. In fact, there are many posts within this thread about it I'm not going to reply directly to your "grow up" comment I'm sorry if this thread has offended you, but that's not the goal around here. In my experience, we typically get along great with fans from other teams that post. Your original post took the form of lecture towards MU & KU fans about what constitutes a great team versus a great program, blah blah blah... Your latest one refers to MU fans claiming - on this board - that a NC was all but a certainty. A possibility yes, but never a certainty, and I can't imagine that discussion ever being held by Tiger fans on a Husker board. Nor do I recall Mizzou fans coming to this board to talk about how 'great' our team is. Can you show me one post on this board that supports either of your assertions? I didn't think so. The funny thing is, I like Nebraskans. I've lived in Papillion for the last three years, and will probably be there for a few more. However the petulance and pettiness of some of the posters I see on this board is amazing, especially when one considers the "Greatest Fans in College Football" thing that's inscribed on your stadium. What hypocrisy. I don't understand it. Back when the Huskers were rolling and Mizzou was down (and there were a lot of years like that), it never occurred to me to slag NU or its fans, or look for some perceived slight to get up in arms about. All my frustrations were vented on my own school's team and program. It began and ended there. So we don't have any nat'l championships. You definitely got us there. But one thing we definitely can do is take a punch to the gut without crying about it afterwards. Tiger fans are tough, dedicated and committed to seeing their team improve in the areas that demand it. They don't waste a lot of time hating, unless it's KU. You think the last five years have been tough? Try fighting your way through 20 years of that kind of crap. And yet, we're still wearing the black and gold. Is that not worthy of a little respect? Does that not create its own kind of honor? I think it could be argued that it's at least on a par with the glory you try to confer on yourselves. It's easy to love a winner. Everybody wants to be on that bandwagon, especially when you live in a state that doesn't have any other big time athletic franchises. But to love a dog, year in and year out, for no other reason than that it's the flagship campus of your home state, a state that's also played in Super Bowls and World Series - now that's true love. So you're right. We don't have a great program. I don't even think we have a great team. Even if we win against the South on Dec 6th, it'll go down as a great victory brought home by a good team. Nothing more. But one thing you and your fellow Husker fans need to realize is that respect and nobility can be earned any number of ways. It can be earned through failure as well as success. Adversity as well as dominance. Witness the Spartans at Thermopylae. Success is a coat that anyone can wear, but how well can you wear defeat and humility? Do you have the guts to wear it without lashing out and denigrating others for some imagined offense? In that sense, I think some of 'The Greatest Fans In College Football' might have a little something to learn from us lowly Tiger fans. I type really long posts about nothing and I use really big words. That makes me cool. Listen, we all bow down to the great Mizzou. They are great, we should respect them. Blah, blah, blah. We don't respect you because you start this BS, you not us. It is annoying, ask anybody from USC, OU, Ohio State, and Miami. It gets old hearing how these fly by night teams are the new elite. Let me tell you the difference between Nebraska and Missouri: You've never had the best team in your conference, we've had the consensus greatest team of all time. 'nuff said.
  4. That "trophy" in '06 was manufactured by Pedersen and Callahan so the players felt like they accomplished something. They don't give out trophies for division championships.
  5. Meh.... By the way, feel free to name another team in the north to know, as you put it...true greatness.....I direct you to your empty trophy case to try and refute that. As for this year, you may have scoreboard, but we have.... -improvement as 2008 went on -tradition -a college football atmosphere that is better when our University is successful -the potential for a 9 win season that feels good for the first time in awhile -a history of greatness, not some great years behind two great Qb's But hey its all good. At least Columbia isn't an armpit...... You're right, it's not anywhere near as bad as Stincoln... I have an idea. On December 6th, you can go to Lincoln and stare at the trophy case for three or four hours. It seems to be at the center of the Husker universe, the floating piece of timber you cling to as you drift in a sea of irrelevance. Call me crazy, but I always thought the action was on the field. Anyway, while you're at it you might also want to polish that most recent crystal football - it has 11 years worth of dust on it. I on the other hand will don my black and gold, go to Arrowhead and yell like a maniac for my team as they take the field to hopefully secure a BCS bid. Win or lose, I think I'll have the better time. "Husker Nation: Eight-track Lovers in an MP3 World..." Here's an idea....keep your a$$ on your Missouri sites if you don't like to read about us celebrating our victories. Oh, and we may (as you so intellectually put it ) love our 8 tracks. You haven't even gotten a phonograph yet, if you want to use that logic. Man, most Mizzou fans are so deluded it is ridiculous. It feels like listening to the kids in the band talk about how "awesome they are" to the starting QB. Sure, they "play" on the same field but are they really the same?
  6. He could have gotten the same level of education for a third the price if he would have just enrolled at Hamilton Business College... You do realize that CU carries a large part of the Big XII's academic credibility on it's back, right? Please tell me you don't honestly believe that. I don't know where all the genious graduates are, but they apparently don't frequent the academic circles myself and other University of Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado State, Wyoming, and Utah grads run in IN THE CITY OF DENVER. Overrated school with less than talented professors. Keep telling yourself that you stand for academics while your ratings go down every year. Back this up with facts, or don't post your BS on here.
  7. How did we do the following year after Taylor left? Yeah, that's right we stayed home for the holidays. How did we do after Frazier and Berringer left? We laid an egg to Arizona State and then lost to Texas. While the 96's season record would be great today, it was a pretty big let down at the time. How did we do following Frost's last year? We lost 4 games. How did we do after losing Crouch? Yeah, that's right we lost 7 games. I don't care what anyone says, losing your starting QB and replacing them with someone who has little if any game experience will cost some wins. Even Frazier laid an egg against Iowa State his first year starting. Most teams struggle when they lose their starting QB to a QB with little to no experience. OU had an un-OU like season following Bomar's dismissal. LSU this year hasn't faired well after dismissing their QB. Florida didn't waltz right in and win their 2nd NC even though Tebow did have quite a bit of experience in his first year starting. Replacing a WR or RB is much easier than replacing a QB because the QB touches the ball every single snap. Heck, replacing a WR or RB is most of the time easier than replacing a center. No matter who the QB is next year, we are going to experience some growing pains next year especially in the early games. This doesn't mean we don't win the North, but to think there won't be any drop off next year offensively is absurd. Even Ganz didn't start putting big numbers up this season until after the Mizzou game even though he had some starts under his belt last year. I think Ganz was averaging nearly 400 yds passing/game in his 3.5 starts last year. Ok, well he had been in the system for a few years, but had very little game experience before he got thrown to the wolves. Also, how about Terelle Pryor at OSU? Now, he has a very good team around him, espcially the D which is one of the best in the country. But Pryor is doing pretty darn good as a true freshman(?). Yea, there will be a drop off at QB, but I think his supporting cast will be better and our D should be stronger and maybe a difference maker for us next year. It appears like Witt will be the starter and he looks like a pretty heady QB that may do better than we expect. If Green comes in and blows everybody away, all the better. I see us @ 8 wins minimum and vying with Mizzou for the North title. LOL!!! Zebop, you've made your kool-aid too strong! Put it down before someone gets hurt!! That's the most uninformed post I've ever read on this forum!! Comparing Ohio State and Pryor to Ganz!?!?!?!?! Now that's hilarious!! Two completely different teams/systems/programs, you name it!! Lets just look at it like this young uninformed ZeBop, Nebraska is not Ohio State!! Ohio State has BETTER players around Mr. Pryor that allow him to make more mistakes. They help cover up his youth and inexperience. News Falsh-Ohio State has one of the most experienced teams in the country!! They can start a freshman and still win consistantly. Also, last time I checked, NU doesn't have a QB as highly touted as Pryor. THE GUY WAS THE #1 overall recruit this year for christ's sake!! You need some educating son, cause your NU degree isn't workin! It appears that they need to stress reading comprehension in Kansas. Seriously, can you even read? Use context clues, he was talking about Cody Green. Who, by the way, has a great chance of being the number 1 dual threat QB coming out just like Pryor. Learn the English language before you spew you're bullsh#t on here.
  8. Kids will drink. But he needs to realize he has a responsibility to his teammates and coaches. He is getting a free education to play football. He needs to see what kind of opportunity this is and man up. Man up to what exactly? If we made a big deal out of underage kids drinking that are on the football team, we wouldn't have a kid left. Heck, we would barely have a kid left in school. It happens. The only reason this is even an blurb in the OWH is because he plays football. Non-issue. Non-issue? The guy's on probation. This likely means Texas jail time. ding ding ding, we have a winner. Anybody been in trouble with the law in Texas? I have, and you don't f with those dudes. They treat MIP like a friggin' capital offense.
  9. I'm going, as usual. This time I'm taking my dad, father in law, and my brother in law that has never been to a game at Memorial. Should be cool.
  10. Joe Ganz in that situation, seriously. How many long 3rd downs has that guy gotten. In a few years, we will look back at him and marvel at his accuracy. It is uncanny, too bad for him he is playing at the same time as McCoy, Bradford, Harrell, Daniel, and Reesing. However, Tommie Frazier is the greatest QB of all time at NU. Nothing else matters but winning in sports, and he won more than any body else. Plus, I was at the '95 KU game when he made like 7 people miss on a run down to the 2 yard line. Not run through, not run over, not run by; made them miss. Looked like Barry Sanders. You tube that run and you can't even discuss anyone else. edit: add my pick for greatest
  11. ESPN have him as a late 1st or early 2nd rounder. Joe Flacco didn't have a great college career (as far as wins) but he turned out well. We'll have to see, I guess.
  12. Yep, saw that. Everybody was checking the numbers to make sure he wasn't in the game. They shouldn't do that stuff to us, I almost had a heart attack!
  13. Lot of talented recruits at Michigan right now? All of that propaganda you just spewed for Iowa ignores one thing THE ENTIRE LITTLE 11 SUCKS. Period. They are all overrated, and you will see it even more when bowl season starts. They all suck, including Iowa. I'm being completely honest here, I think PSU would be about 6th or 7th in the Big 12. They are too slow, way too slow. The entire conference is too slow. Think about it, do you really think they could handle any of these: Texas Tech-I'd like to see what Michael Crabtree would do to Penn St's defense, ha Texas-come on, the DL run sub 4.6 40s Oklahoma-this is probably the best team in the country, honestly Oklahoma St-still, too much speed Missouri-two words Jeremy Maclin Nebraska-Here's where you get to close games. PSU could win, but it is a toss up IMO. Kansas-I think KU could give 'em a game, but unlikely The rest of the B12 would probably lose to them Think about that. The class of the Little 11 would be a middle of the road team in this conference. That is why Iowa does suck.
  14. Exactly what is that supposed to mean? Coming from a Missouri fan, I find that very funny. You'll never win a conference title just 'cause, well, you're Missouri. I'm sure he meant it about THIS year, but either way, you guys should know to take this stuff with a grain of salt. Coming from you, I do. You post enought that I feel like I know you (not sure if that is good or bad!) He probably should have chosen his words better! edit: spelling
  15. Exactly what is that supposed to mean? Coming from a Missouri fan, I find that very funny. You'll never win a conference title just 'cause, well, you're Missouri.
  16. I hate all teams with gold helmets, and I don't have a good reason why. The best uniforms besides us, IMO, are Texas, Michigan, and tOSU because of the sparkly helmets!
  17. Wow. Where to start..... First on Chris Brooks. What in the name of sam hell he had to do with Asante, I don't know but I digress. Do you think that maybe Chris hasn't seen the field that much because Swift, Nunn, Peterson, and this guy named Maurice Purify played in front of him? Those are some damn good players. Since Cally didn't really practice the second string guys, maybe he didn't get that many reps . Now onto Asante. I am going to preface this by saying I don't want my warning level increased, so I am treading lightly. It really burns me when somebody that is completely uneducated about defensive schemes in football makes claims that prove this. Asante is asked to do so much in this defense, and his responsibilities have been increased because OTHER PEOPLE MISS THEIR ASSIGNMENTS. Football is the ultimate team game. You have 11 guys all doing their job, and if they don't do their job the play/scheme/coverage doesn't work. I could get into specifics about the 2 deep zone coverage that you seemingly don't undestand, but I think it would be review for most others on this board and you probably won't be back on for a year so I won't. Do me a favor, before you spout off at the mouth and tear a guy down on this or any other public forum, at least have an idea what you're talking about first.
  18. ......but you're using facts to try to undestand something that apparently doesn't use any. The voters are closing their eyes and throwing darts, I'm convinced.
  19. Ok, this is borderline ridiculous. I'm 26 so I can see both sides of this argument. For the students: If you are trying to make a point to a bunch of people who get up everyday, work hard, and keep this economy moving in order for you to be able to go to school, don't act so entitled. (btw, that's a bad thing) Don't bring up that your parents are doing better than them. Don't shoot off at the mouth so much about older people respecting you. YOU HAVE TO EARN RESPECT. It is not given, it is earned. In all honesty, if you feel like you deserve equal respect as your elder, I need you to tell me why? If you really need to study that much, then show some responsibility and DON'T APPLY FOR AND BUY THE f'ing TICKETS. Let some other student that doesn't have to that is on the list (of which there are thousands) get your tickets. However, you guys did get screwed by TO and the Athletic Dept. Ridiculous that they moved you. I also agree with you about the standing thing. Sit on somebody else's shoulders if you want to(exagerration). I don't remember feeling the same way as you in school, but some did. I grew up in a little town and was taught that you respect your elders and that you didn't deserve respect until you did something to earn it in the real world. To the "older" crowd on here: Come on guys, leave this alone. You have to agree, they shouldn't have been moved. If you have a problem with NU having a weak student section don't move it, enlarge it. Let more of them in, that will strenghten it. (and I understand the economics of it, just making a point) Also, I do believe if you don't like somebody standing in front of you, STAY THE f#*k HOME. I get so sick of these old farts tellimg me "down in front." Now I just turn around and stare at them until they turn their head. f#*k them. Don't give me this "unhealthy fans should be able to see, too" sh#t either. If they wanted to be able to see while sitting the entire time, watch it on TV. My dad has cancer and goes to games cheering his ass off and standing the whole time (until we score not matter how long that takes, big plays, etc.). He is dead tired at the end, but he knows he is PRIVILEGED to be at the game and many others aren't. More than anything else, the argument that their would be a football team without students is absolutely absurd. Seriously, how the hell would a team full of student athletes representing a college (yes, they represent the university, which then represents the state) have a team without students? Think about that before you respond that way. How about we all just talk about football, how we are going to get 9 wins this year, and how Bo is going to win the National Championship next year just like Bob Stoops. Had to finish on a high note!!!
  20. Did anyone on here attend the Big 12 Championship game in '06 against OU? Those a$$hole$ drowned out our band everytime we started to play anything. They also, as you know, play Boomer Sooner evertime they get a first down or any kind of defensive play. They are the most annoying band in the entire NCAA. Part of this hatred could be because I was so damn cold that night my eyelids froze open!
  21. Scoring 45 pts and having over 500 yards of offense makes you sick? That makes a sh#t load of sense.
  22. The North stadium goes into the nineties in rows, so you're closer to the middle
  23. ....and games will last 100 years whether or not the country wants them to.... Although the technology is out dated and antiquated, we'll make sure that we run all rugby scrums supporting people who are in a different sport than us, rather than free ourselves from "foreign" football......Touchdown signals from referees will no longer be two arms in the air but two thumbs below shoulder high a.k.a. John McCain.... Sorry that last part was low, but come on. Its over, if we want to fix this country we need to stop the divide. Not saying you have to agree with him. Just don't dismiss him before he even takes office, "my friends"!!!
