I'm not criticizing NU athletics with this comment, but college athletics in general.

Look at our current building project.  What is it, $60 million?  How much of that is actually to make the team better compared to how much of it is to impress 18 year olds to come play for you?  Mind boggling how much is spent just to impress a bunch of kids before they ever do anything productive for the program.

It's very unlikely for any of the 18 year olds to be able to help the program if they don't choose to play for the program...

I can't think of anything more important to helping the program than attracting the very best of the 18 year olds to play for Nebraska by having great coaches, facilities, and, recently, NIL compensation.

As long as the team doesn't get cocky it does not matter how we feel. And I think Rhule is on top of it since he came out talking about how the defense really didn't play very well despite the numbers - we'll see if it works, but the offense has zero reason to take their foot off the gas and I don't think the defense will.

Purdue flat dropped quite a few balls that could have changed the overall tone of the game, if not the final result.   Glad to have the win, but far from cocky.

  3. I’m not so sure Satt is bad.

    T White is amazing

Rhule is better than I imagined. Put a ring on it, and White too.

    HH, the kid has guts.

    Emmet Johnson is rb1

Defense is a bad a$$ gang. They’re doing the blackshirt tradition proud.

    Fumbling the ball sucks.

    This team is a TEAM.

Minnesota and Colorado were lucky to get us when they did. We would truck them both if we played them now.

It's a metaphor; our offense is like prison grade gruel.    :D

Then perhaps Huskerboard can tint some of our more negative posters work similarly. :D

  5. This was really well done.

I don't really follow other programs to know if they're doing the same things but I can see this type of production being EXTREMELY valuable in recruiting, fan support, and even donor solicitation.

  6. I think Sims is slightly more dangerous, to both the Huskers and our opponents.  The problem is that the ratio was more against than for the Huskers through the first couple of games.  I'd stick with HH, but hopefully he can get more comfortable and effective in the passing game very soon.

A lot of people talk smack about Bo Pelini.  But if you go into one of the most important treatment centers in Lincoln for deeply  troubled youth you will see Bo Pelini's name on the wall as a donor toward that facility.  Did not see any of the other "nicer"coach's names there.

    So he wrote a check...

    ???

I'm sure all of the coaches have made charitable contributions to various causes that they liked/believed it.

Trying too hard is one way to make mistakes, but that doesn't apply to any of tonight's turnovers. Sims carelessly threw the ball into coverage on each of his INT's. Careless, not trying too hard. Grant hasn't worked hard enough to secure his five pressure points which is why he fumbled so easily. Careless, not trying too hard.

"Still nearly won" was the motto of Riley and Frost. This post and sentiment in particular would be so representative of Riley's first Husker game (BYU).

“Careless”? Are you kidding? You think these men don’t care? They have pride, honor and millions of reason$ to care. Making mistakes does not mean careless. Mistakes happen in elite sport when everything is on the line and the people involved couldn’t possibly care more. Careless is simply false.

You might find it as bad but it's true, just like in a company with some dnozzle bringing everyone down it happens.  I mean we have our recruited many schools including Minny over the years yet we continue to piss down our legs.  We are quickly becoming the Chicago Cubs of college football.

    Complete BS

This team has great leadership and played hard.  If anything, they're trying too hard and ended up "forcing" mistakes.

Nobody was half assing the effort.

It was a messy first game with a ton of new players and a new staff, and they still nearly won.

If you're surprised that a bunch of new players/coaches made some mistakes in their first game, look in the mirror as to the problem, not at the team.

A lost is a lost. I get that. This one felt different than.previous MN losses. MN wasn’t more physical than Nebraska. N’s OL wasn’t great, but it didn’t get dominated like it has in the past against this team. N looked better conditioned to me than in the past, and without the turnovers and penalties,  they win. The D line didn’t get pushed around like in the past. It seemed the best team didn’t win tonight. But I agree if Sims continues to throw pick offs and the penalties continue, it will be the same oh story.

While certainly disappointing, I saw a lot of reasons to be optimistic for the future of the Huskers.

Minny is NOT a good team, they may get a bowl game but they are not good.  We gave them that game, well Sims and Grant gave them that game with some Satterfield built in.  This team can't stop tripping over their own dicks let alone win a winnable game which this was.  This team does not know how to win, plain and simple, time to play the kids who want to win and bench the kids that can't figure it out.  We are going to lose anyways might as well get the youngins playing time and hope people with the right mentality are brought in.  You seem to be ok and accepting of looking like a flaming garbage can, most of us are not.  Maybe you will be back when our guys have a winning mentality, maybe not.

The "don't know how to win" is such a bunch of BS.  If it were an individual sport, maybe there's a valid thought but with 50+ guys contributing, "knowing how to win" is just bs.

The young men played hard and made too many mistakes.  That has nothing to do with "knowing how to win".  It's a popular phrase that doesn't mean a damn thing.

    THOUGHTS ON THE GAME:

    1. Defense played their hearts out, and it was so refreshing to see blitzes called when they should be.
    2. There were positives, but also familiar negatives.
    3. I'm sorry for the young man, but Anthony Grant needs to move down the depth chart. If he was having fumbling issues in training camp he should not have been in the game during that critical situation. (That's on the coaches).
    4. This game came down to Turnover Margin & Game Management.

    BIGGEST CONCERNS:

    1. Nebraska's only touchdown came off a trick play.
    2. Nebraska's best rushing offense was from our QB. (This is NOT sustainable for a full season).
    3. A QB run game is fine in managible doses, but if we can't get a normal running game going with our O-Line and running backs it's going to be a long year.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

    • When you lose six straight seasons it will take time and a lot of coaching to fix it. THIS. WIL.L TAKE. TIME.
    • Matt Rhule does need to sit down with Satterfield before the Coloroado to re-evaluate the offense and especially the play calling from the 2nd half.

    Fair.  Valid.

Lets all take a step back folks.  We lost a tight game at the last second in perhaps our 3rd or 4th toughest game of the season with a brand new staff.

We can start losing our minds come october if this s#!t still happening

Losing with a last second field goal to a very solid Minnesota team despite 4 turnovers is definitely not an "end of the world" situation.

Yes, the turnovers need to be fixed.  Playcalling and AG, unfortunately, need to be focused on the turnover issue.

The "identity" of being a running team is a bit in doubt as well.

But overall, I think Rhule will get this ship turned in the right direction.

Hopefully many of the supposed "fans" won't be on board, but once things improve, I'm sure they will.

Where was Gabe Ervin in the 4th quarter?

Why would you put the ball in the hands of your most fumble-prone RB in the 4th quarter?

    :dunno

This is the only valid criticism I've seen.

I was surprised to see AG out there when it was fairly well know he had fumble issues.  It's definitely a deal breaker for a RB regardless of his ability to run the ball.  I didn't see Ervin getting many carries and I don't really understand the thought process there.

    Ball security > everything else.

Rhule will get it fixed and this team has a great future.

GBR and hopefully the pathetic loser fans GTFO!
