He is not the reason we got Brix. He is the reason we got Taumua though, but we always get a 4 star regardless of O-line coach or staff. Last staff got Benhart, Corcoran, and Teddy

You might be right. Could you provide something to back up the bolded?

  2. When DK committed to NU I will bet anything that Rhule told him and his father that NU would continue to pursue DR until signing day. Gotta believe that Rhule told that McCord and his dad when they visited NU. McCord may have been okay with it but I have to believe dad was not.

Ruggeroli is also a walk-on guy

Kinda makes you wonder why he commited....

Not trying to be mystical but Alex agreed to a walkon for a reason. Nice NIL package would be a good start but there was a history between Dom and Alex's hs coach; also Alex met Dylan via that connection. I think Alex knows summin'.

  4. Rhule operates by a different set of rules (no pun intended). Frost and Riley were absolutely star-followers. Rhule wants athletes first, stars seem low on the scale. Alex Ruggeroli comes to mind. Rhule's operation kinda fascinates me because of s#!te like this.

Against Iowa we had a combined 20 years of cfb on our starting line. Math says that equals 4 years on average per linemen. The youngest had an offer from Alabama. Next has been in college for 3 years and 3 have been in for 5 years. Brix hasn’t played a down and if he doesn’t improve year over year we will be able to see if Donny is the real deal. I expect a “senior line” to do well regardless of the coach

I might agree with you if Donovan had recruited those kids and they still performed at a subpar level, but he is just completed his second year with them under at least two and possibly three OCs who required different blocking schemes.

I might agree with you if, despite what I said above, the line had NOT shown any signs of improvement......but they did, to the extent that NU had the second best run offense in the B1G.

Nothing I've said implies that the Oline has arrived. Far from it. But if you can't see the improvement to the line that Donovan has brought, you either are unreasonable or you have an agenda.

I thought I read somewhere that there is a family connection with Riola's.

Not sure when but Dom brought Dylan to some event (maybe a practice? not sure) where Alex met Dylan and they became friends. In the back of my mind I'm thinking that Dom and Alex's HS coach knew each other.

What does it matter if he can’t coach the talent up? And that is sad that this is the 2nd best class. 1 top 100 guy who hasn’t played 11 man football

At this point I'm not sure if you're trolling or just unaware.

    • Donovan is working with a line he didn't recruit.
    • This last season he had three of six starters out.
    • The replacements were mostly rs freshmen and sophomores.
    • Despite all that NU finished '23 with the second best rushing offense in the B1G.

BTW, who were the other teams going after that "1 top 100 guy who hasn't played 11 man football"?

Let’s not forget why he’s still here (Dylan). He hasn’t really developed anyone into a better player and has failed to get so many top linemen that came on visits. He better hope this year’s class actually develops over the next 2 years and Dylan gets him some top linemen in peer recruiting. My hope is NIL cancels out his lack of current ability or that more experience makes him better.

    Are you serious?

Donovan just recruited the 2nd highest class of Olinemen for NU in the internet era. Do better.

I don't care about your physical appearance. I'm sure you're a swell person no matter how you look.

I think it could be multiple reasons.

    1.  Adrian really looked mechanical all last year and for some of this years Illinois game, the last three games he looks much more relaxed.  Maybe he just finally learned to get out of his own way.

    2.  More talent at the receiver and TE positions this year.  Way, way more talent.  Just think, if things would have worked out differently, we could of still had Washington and Robinson on this team.

    3.  Development, this one is tough to gage because he has been here for four years now.  I am sure he is still learning, but eventually he has to take ownership and get out there and make it rain, which he did this last game.

I am sure there are more, but I am driving and typing on the 15 in So Cal, so if I keep this up there is a good chance I may die.  :)

I'll add an another reason: AM is not worried about receiving unguided missiles from his center. He can focus more on pre-snap reads.

Pregame: “we’re going to get smoked by 50”

Postgame: “we lost by 7.. we suck”

I know we have some serious O line and special teams issues but if that game doesn’t give you a bit of pride and hope then you’re tainted.

    So much this.

  12. I think the offensive identity will look much like the offense in the last few games of last season, run heavy. The upgrade will come with the receiving corps. I really think NU's receivers are going to give defenses trouble if 2AM is as settled down as we're hearing.

Disagreeing doesn't make you ignorant. Poorly structured arguments and lack of evidence, on the other hand...

Using that definition rules out giving an opinion on this board at anytime.......but my post wasn't about the merits of the OP's post, but the predictable group-think piling on that occurred afterward. So common when posters try to show how cute they can be when cutting down someone else's opinion. Just unnecessary.

    • You guys are dopes....I'm the snarkiest
    • Uh uh, lemme show you how uptown funk you up I can be......

Look, I have trouble agreeing with the OP, but you figs who pile on trying to be cuter than the one before .......not sure what to say.
