  1. As fans we can be pretty unrealistic AND unfair. For many of us, the latest hot kid on the team should immediately rise to the top and supplant anyone above him. Why? Cuz he has killer talent, killer measurables, killer stats. This really makes little sense when you have players in front of him who, while untested, were LAST year's hot recruit with all those same killer attributes. Zac and Kody have had more time in the system than Cody. Both have very good measureables. If we had no one who could take up the position, then I would feel differently. But we do. My question. What if next year by some fluke we land the country's BESt dual threat QB who is bigger, stronger, faster, more accurate and has better stats than Cody Green? How many will be calling for him to start? With apologies to those who remember Woodstock.....all I am saying-----is give the pieces a chance.
  2. Yep. And IIRC, it WOULD be a violation of NCAA rules if Bo were to talk to a recruit at this point in time. I apologize in advance if I'm wrong about that.
  3. Very impressive offer list. Methinks this one is gonna be hard to pull out of TX.
  4. skersfan, you sound like you are far more plugged in to NU than I am, so I can't dispute much of what you say. I will, tho, talk about a couple things you said. (1) RE: Pelini cutting the players loose after he did not get the HC gig in 04. He was no longer on the staff, so what could he do about any misconduct they engaged in? If a player is going to drink at the hotel after the game, they are going to do it whether he admonishes them against it or not. Unless you and I were privy to how he tried to control them, it is unfair for us to speculate if he was delinquent in that regard. (2) I don't know that Pelini told players that they were being misused after he left. I DO recall Barrett Ruud and some other NU players hugging Bo at the OU game in 04. Not saying improper things weren't said....I just never heard that. (3) Never heard about Bo being implicated in a recruiting misstep at OU or LSU. Was that published anywhere? (Not doubting you, but I would like to read about it.) (4) I have always separated elite teams from elite programs. Miami U. was an elite team in the 80s, but would anyone seriously refer to Miami as an elite program? Notre Dame has sucked as a team for over a decade, but most everyone still considers the program elite (witness their ability to get top-rated classes throughout a series of misanthropic coaches).....teams suck but program remains elite. (5) Major booster bringing Pelini back in September. That means that the decision to fire Cally had to have been made by Pederson early in the 07 season, when NU was still the B12 North champion from the 06 season. Now, why in heck would that have happened? We were 4-1 through Sept. (only loss to Uniformly Septic Conditions). The timing does not hold up to decide to fire BC at that point, particularly since SP would have to had made that decision. The internet is full of flame bullies and I don't want to come across as one, but nothing you said convinces me. If I had reliable confirmation for what you have learned I would feel differently. Regardless, thanks for giving me something to think about. I guess my radar will be a little more tuned to Bo's actions in the future.
  5. If they are fraternal twins, Matt must be a honking big QB.
  6. A little tweaking of another fan base is okay once in a while, but when it becomes a main theme I lose interest. I must say most of the posters from other fan bases who post here are pretty good. Very few flame and when they take shots at NU, they generally are balanced. To be honest, I enjoy reading their opinions more than most others just because you occasionally get a perspective you did not have before. Besides, most of them, like Cy, Jayhawk and Fro, have a good sense of humor and can take a little ribbing without going nuts. You're not gonna find that on the "main" boards.
  7. He wants his parking spot back and the AD won't give it to him.
  8. good post. but its the offseason, you gotta bicker with opposing teams fans! in the end all will be fine. True this is. One thing I will respond to though-I think it's pretty even at RB between KU and NU. I really don't think either team has much of an advantage over the other. Nobody on this board seems to respect Jake Sharp, and I don't know why. He really didn't have a good game against you guys, but he single-handedly beat ISU, and helped us stay close with OU for 3 quarters. The guy can flat out play, and is one of KU's biggest difference makers. I think Jake Sharp is a heck of a football player and extremely talented. He is a real playmaker. That said, I think people are giving Nebraska the advantage because we have two outstanding guys in Castille and Helu. Because we have the depth, that's why I give them the nod over KU. Sharp can only be in the backfield for so long, but we have a lot of guys who can roll in and out of there and make some big plays. KU obviously has a WR and QB advantage without question, so no quarry there on my behalf. very accurate post imo. Yeah I'll give you that. I forgot about Castille. And Quigley is switching to LB, so Crawford will be backing up Sharp, and honestly that makes me nervous. Dude played like a 4 star bust to me. eh, we have had a few of those. such a waste! Call me nuts, but Sharp reminds me of Maclin a little bit. Not completely, so hold off on the pitchforks and hear me out. Both are somewhat similar in stature. Both are speedy, Maclin clearly moreso but Sharp is very fast also. Both are quick and cut on a dime. Both have very good vision and make good decisions on the field. Both are game-changers, but Mac by a wider margin. Every time I get frustrated with one of these mine-is-bigger-than-yours debates, I try to step back and remember it's fine to be a homer on your own board, rude to be a homer on another team's board (no Fro and JGS, I don't mean you) and it's OFF-SEASON! Spring ball cannot start soon enuf.
  9. As long as your happy UGA. Then I am cool. And we have another 8 months to talk about why Blaine will fail now with MU, when he was seen as the star of the NU class before he left. I dont know if he will be worth a darn either. But I know he spent one full season taking snaps as the number two guy in practice and played in (i believe, without double checking) 6 games last year. So no matter what we know or dont know at this point, the only thing that can be said for sure is he has a lot more game experiance than anyone that Nebraska can throw out there... Looking forward to a summer of nothing but speculation and hype... I don't have a prob with B. Gabbert like I did with Daniel. I always felt Daniel was an arrogant kid, but Gabbert has done nothing to give me that impression. Cannot deny he has the physical tools. Whether he has the intangibles (leadership, decision-making) remains to be seen. Kinda the same thing for whoever is NU's signal caller.
  10. your basing this on what.... I am no homer. Everyone who knows me on this site can agree to that. But you have nothing to base this on. MU has beaten NU in Columbia since 2003 (by pretty good margins at that) and last year in Nebraska. They have done so with a number of different players, including two different QB's, 4 different TE's, 3 different RB's about 7 different WR's and god knows probabaly 40+ different starters on D (mu has different starters on D about every year. Makes it hard to keep up ) Chase Dainel & Jeremy Maclin played in two of those 4 wins. So why would MU go away when they leave? Cheer on your team, be excited. But really, Nebraska has just as many, if not more questions to answer this spring and fall when it comes to their team. And before you quip back, yes the D was better, but as has been discussed at length, that has a much to do with the O's ability to milk the clock brilliantly last year. The pts allowed, avg yrds per play (both run and pass) were all near the bottom of conference. But the D faced fewer plays than almost every team in the country. (this is not a knock. infact it was brilliant) And with almost no returing fire power, how will NU control the clock if they may not be able to get first downs. Your little rant is equal to me coming on here and saying "we all know MU is better than Nebraska. They won 41-24, 41-24, 41-6 the last 3 in Columbia, not to mention the 52-10 (i dont count cheap TD's with your starters against our 3rd string) last year in YOUR house. You guys will get Rocked!!!! -signed 'MU TROLL' Thank you and have a nice day Don't sweat it, Fro. Your posts are sensible and I enjoy reading them. And if someone wants to be a bit of an NU homer, remember it is an NU board. Not to say that you need to take any crap from anyone....if that happens, give 'em wat fer!
  11. The question is a good one, as is the response. While the current crop of H/S kids may have heard of Bo, NU has not been an exceptional team for some time, and that matters. Its about brand-name and what-have-you-done-lately? The cure for that is win, win, win.
  12. Great video, CH. Thanks. Arm-tacklers in the B 12, watch out. This young man will make you look stupid.
  13. Do you want a cookie? j/k Nope, thanks though. I was saying it in a manner to poke fun at the original poster. that's polite. A HS kid obviously, make fun of him. Really want to find out who the kid being asked to walk on is dont ya? Well lets see, the poster is from Millard, and Ty Kildow is from Millard South...so I put two and two together. Also he's in high school, I think he can handle a joke. I'm just impressed the young man is in high school and has over 2000 posts.
  14. Just checking to make sure I understand what the original intent was - nicknames for Rex (the football player). Correct? Wow - I must be getting old - I may need an explanation for that one. An old boyfriend? I'm lost. Just roll with it I hope he never hears of this thread
  15. Simi Fili ate himself out of football. Got kicked off his JUCO team because he was near 400lbs and not healthy at all. That is simply amazing. What a waste.
  16. I get what you're saying, but don't forget what Joey did in his coming out party in 07. IF NU had any kind of D that game, NU wins. Witt and Lee have both been in the system for three years now and they won't face KU until later in the season. Will it be tough? Yep and I really like Reesing. But I see this as an NU win because NU's D will neutralize KU's O.
  17. Maybe nu shoulda won, maybe, but TT did technically win that game. every game is winnable. Can nu beat Vatech at home? sure. But it isn't likely. The opposite is just as valid a question. But a glance at the preseason polls should answer that question. Vatech was barely ranked when they met the huskers in 08. They'll likely be highly ranked when they meet in 09. The huskers will be much improved... so will Vatech. They were a VERY young team last season when they beat nu ON THE ROAD. Beating nu at home will not be as difficult for them. The huskers haven't beaten a ranked team AT home for years, let alone on the road. I'll be cheering for the mighty skers and NU will win many games in 2009. ...but the Vatech game probably won't be one of them. The good news... we'll find out next season. Okay, what if we DO win this game? For those who doubt the team's chances against VT (reasonable to do so, BTW), does that count as a signature win since you don't expect a W?
  18. I believe Stafford is back on the team. Also, gotta mention Taylor Martinez. This kid has mojo written all over him.
  19. What gets me is that ppl speak authoritatively about what happened when TO was interviewing HC candidates, and NO ONE knows what happened in that context other than the ppl involved. Three facts I know: Pelini has done well as a recruiter and coach. TG has done very well as a coach. TG has never indicated that he was treated unfairly in the interview/hiring process at NU.
  20. I read about him a week or so ago (don't remember where) regarding NU looking at him. The question of his lack of notice came up and it was explained that he had been playing behind some highly regarded upperclassmen and that caused him to be overlooked. The word on this young man is all upside. He has speed, is football smart, good hips and change of direction, loves to lay the lumber and goes to the ball well. I don't know anything about his grades or character, but have not heard about any problems either. He was jazzed about the NU offer. The only downside is that he is just now getting noticed and may decide to look around (can't blame him for that).
  21. EDIT: As of today, we moved up to #33...for what it's worth. 25th on Scout today, also for what it's worth...... Also, FWIW, Scout tends to be more accurate in retrospective analyses of its class, NU and all others.
  22. I like the sound of that AMEN to that brother. A KU fan on Scout said that Kevin Young (4* KU DE commit who we went after hard) was going to dump KU and commit to NU. There may be some truth to this because I have always understood that Mangino would yank an offer to any recruit who took a visit after commiting to KU. Well I'm betting you would tend to make a exception when they are a 5 or 4 star commit. really can't do that, makes him the "special one" and will create problems in the team if you do so, needs to be the same rules for everyone. You mean favoring him over the other kids that were kicked out? Seems to me that the other kids would not be around to complain how unfair it was. Whether they are around or not is immaterial. If any coach gets a rep of not sticking to his guns, he and that program will get walked over. Bad precedent. Regardless, the rumor was true and Young is N. Cannot overstate how big this is, not just because this is a quality recruit. More importantly is the mo this gives NU's program going into the bowl game. NU alone, of all the B12 North, is getting quality recruits at this crucial time. First we need to lock down our borders, then selectively pillage the neighboring states like we used to. Then raise the bar in the big targets: TX, FL, CA. That's why the game against CU was so big. I suspect we will soon get at least one if not more commits as a direct result of that game, the atmosphere and the bowl bid. Lookin' good.
