I agreed with you up until this part. "Loyalty and what it means to be a Husker" could mean any number of things (characteristics) to anyone. You can bash him and blame him for whatever you would like. However, as we've learned in the past 24 hours, the problems within our system extend beyond the AD position and don't appear to have a firm solution on the horizon.

I don't disagree that there are issues that extend beyond the AD position. Clearly, there are.

I just think that it's pretty chickens#!t to run away from them instead of trying to be part of the solution.

I mean, if they're paying him significantly more, why wouldn't he go?

I can tell you that every single person on this message board - myself included - would move to a new job if they doubled your salary for what is essentially the same work. He's going to do at A&M the same thing he does at Nebraska: fundraise, push projects they feel helps them be successful, hire coaches after using a search firm, and fundraise some more.

Nebraska, for their part, needs to make sure they hire somebody who takes Trev's place who: has a grasp on the future CBA nature of college football. That isn't a drunk like Bill Moos was or that doesn't insert himself into decisions that should be left up to the head coach like Shawn Eichorst did. Nebraska will hopefully hire somebody who see's where the sport is going (revenue sharing with players), is prepared to fundraise for NIL purposes, and hire competent coaches.

Pushing pet projects like putting nap pods in a new football facility or revamping the stadium aren't really necessary now. It's all related to NIL, Nebraska needs to hire the best possible candidate in that regard.

    I disagree with this take.

Trev was already very well compensated. Hell, if it was a money issue, this could've been solved without leaving town.

Trev was a Husker. This is about more than money - this is about loyalty and what it means to be a Husker. Strip this motherf#&%er's name off the North Stadium and let's hit a home run on the next hire.

Trev is going to be a villain to Nebraska fans going forward if this happens?

Definitely. If he leaves for aTm, then f#&% that guy.

So, it took them a year with the same staff and using NIL to develop the team.

We are in year one of that.

Not exactly the same staff - they did bring in Bobby Petrino, but I get your point. The issues with Texas A&M hasn't stemmed from a lack of talent.

Take a look at the 247's team rankings for the last few years (2020 class through current 2024 class):

So, I have a genuine NIL question (not trying to be argumentative): does anyone know if we have raw data to analyze Nebraska's NIL efforts, specifically from a financial standpoint? Or, are we hypothesizing their NIL efforts are sub par based on certain players failing to meet fan expectations?

To this point, I haven't yet seen anything related to what I'm curious about, but that doesn't mean it's non-existent. Nebraska's recruiting 100% needs to improve. It has for some time. But, is it more because Nebraska's being stingy with the checkbook, or more to do with the fact this place is a coaching carousel that hasn't done much of substance in 20+ years and has done a poor job of identifying/developing NFL talent of late?

Most people "in the know" about Nebraska's football program continually claim that Nebraska has no real financial limitations when it comes to competing nationally from an NIL standpoint, so obviously there is a disconnect somewhere.

I think it's a fair question and would say that my criticism, at this point, is result oriented. I wish there was some way to quantify.

Nebraska may very well be doing all that they can to attract talent to Lincoln. If the current results are as good as it gets, then Nebraska may just continue to be a bad to middling B1G team.

Hope this staff and program can figure out a way to take recruiting and NIL to a higher level. This team needs talent desperately.

All that money aTm supposedly spent got them a 5-7 record last year.

It wasn't pretty last season, but they're off to a good start so far this year. Lost to what may very well be a quality Miami team and are a 2.5 point underdog to Alabama this weekend.

Can you define "doing better with NIL?"

So is your theory that somebody was like "these guys are good enough - we shouldn't go after better players."

Or is it that we could have spent more money while still being within the rules but just didn't because we didn't think of that?

We need to be more competitive in NIL. We need to take a Texas A&M approach and spend an absurd amount of money to bring in better talent to Lincoln. Whatever we're doing currently, isn't cutting it - not even close.

My point is that we are actively participating in NIL and paying players, but we're paying some mediocre players with poor results.

This program is getting left in the dust.  This program is the laughing stock of college football.

If Nebraska is ever going to find its way back, then it needs to start acting like a big boy program and recruiting at a higher level. Nebraska needs more talent.

Do our fans think that we're not stretching the limits of NIL rules to pay players?

I keep seeing this recurring theme that the answer is to "oP3n Up teH cHEcKb00kS." Like, we're not doing that already?

If this is the best we can do in NIL, we’re f#&%ed.

Nebraska needs to start acting like a big boy football program if they want to be competitive again. A big part of that is doing a better job with NIL.

Sure, they’re paying players, but we need to be paying better players.

I've learned that fans will demand the sellout streak to end in a desperate hope to feel some kind of control. The team sucks and has sucked for years...you know who hasn't sucked? The fans. Give up the sellout streak? Yeah let's suck too. That'll show em.

Yeah, fans should continue to blindly throw money at a program that is an absolute f#&%ing dumpster.

  11. Winning tends to cure everything.

This program hasn't done much of it since 2016. 22 wins since the 9-4 season in 2016.

Until the product on the field drastically improves, I anticipate the stadium atmosphere will continue to feel like staying home from school and watching soap operas with your mom.

What I learned is nothing new as well.  I watched a coach who can't stay out of the way.  He obviously was told to hire an offensive coordinator.  He can't get out of his own way.  At this point let your coaches, coach the team and just run the team as a CEO.  Trev must have demanded that Frosty turn over the offense to someone else.  Also its really obvious that we couldn't find anyone else last season to come here.  This is a lame duck season for Frost, and he is coaching like he already knew that entering.

We don't have consistent line play on either side of the ball.  Casey is a fine QB, but he also makes some questionable decisions.  Grant is good RB who recognizes that he has to run outside because we can not block.  Those runs were all him today.  They won't work against OU or the majority of the Big 10, but were good enough to win today.

Confidence meter is very low right now that we win 3 games this season.  I think we will win 3 to 5 games this season because I don't know if Purdue is really any better than we are and I don't know about Indiana or Rutgers as of right now.  Illinois is not looking like a real powerhouse but if they run the ball efficiently they might run on our d all day long.  So even though I could see a path of us winning 6, thats it.  We won't win more than 6.  Right now I would lay money on the under of 6.

Purdue is going to eat this team alive.

We have no pass rush. AOC might throw for 400+.

We need to enjoy next weekend because I’m not sure there’s another win out there.

I read this on Facebook today. Wondered what folks here think? Part of me agrees with the poster but another part of me thinks the over 21 adults (coaches) need to step up their game as well. Here’s what I read:

We Husker fans need to do better.

We are all the talk right now in college football, and it's not positive attention.

But I'm not here to complain about Frost, the players, the staff, the program, the way it once was...

I'm here as a genuine concerned fan.

A bit of a momma bear if you will.

As a college instructor, I am with 18 to 22 year olds daily.

    These. Are. Kids.

Trust me, they think they're adults. Remember when you did too at their age? How'd that go for ya?

You are tearing these kids up game after game, expectation after expectation, pressure after pressure.

And now, we've managed to put a man's job, one he loves, respects, and works his butt off for, on the literal shoulder pads of 18 to 22 year olds.

    Step up, Husker fans.

There has been a fall from grace, but it's not only on the shoulders of this coach, these kids, or this program.

    It's on us, too.

So we either learn how to cheer louder, in both wins and losses, or continue watching the weight of the world crush a program we all love so much.

Let's take on some blame and become the world's greatest fans once again.

    Go Big Red.

    Nebraska Huskers

Lol this is such a boomer take.

Husker fans are the epitome of loyalty - it's teetering on masochism at this point. This program has a great many flaws, but the fanbase is not one of them. If anything, the fanbase is the lone bright spot in these last 10 years.
