I assume it is similar to the example I gave earlier. Say we have an zone read to the right the goes for 15 yards. If Jaimes, Hixon, and Cam all get beat they aren't going to get a good grade, while Wilson and Farniok will probably have a positive grade since you assume they helped the runner gain the 15 yards. Therefore, three of our five linemen will have a negative grade on a play that gained 15 yards. Again, I'm not advocating that PFF is perfect by any means. I do think they bring a perspective that is unlike anything else out there.

I assume that during the grading if a OT gets beat and the DE gets a rush on the QB who avoids the sack, that won't show up as a sack, but it will show up as a bad grade for that play by said lineman. So there is more to their evals than simply yards. I hope that made sense. If Cam has high snaps he is going to get dinged. I assume penalties are factored in? False starts, holding etc...

Farniok has shown the ability to pull pretty well. When they pull the tackle for QB draw he has done fine. It’s the speed on the edge that really hurts him. I agree with you about Piper. Hoping he can be a difference maker. I just don’t see it with Hixson. Seems like a great kid, but he isn’t athletic enough.
