  1. A group of us were talking at lunch the other day and discussing if Trump really wanted to win the election. There are enough reports out there that it might be true. If it is true, it seems like he's trying to make sure he doesn't win a re-election. But the funny thing is, the more questionable he gets, the more his base rallies behind him.
  2. It will be interesting to watch the lawyers parse words on this one. "Yes, I 'wanted' a WH job. But I never "pursued' a WH job...." No matter the side a person my be "cheering" for, I wish we could all just agree that it is disgusting we are even in a place like this to begin with.
  3. It will be interesting to watch (wish it wasn't in our country, but......) if Trump would be indicted after he serves his term(s). Would a jury find him guilty? If so, what does jail look like for a former President? I can't believe I actually just typed this, but here we are.
  4. https://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2017-hate-crime-statistics-released-111318 This story was probably neglected from the media for the same reason almost all of the above hate crimes were ignored by the media: there are a lot of bad things that happen everyday and the media can't cover them all. They usually latch on to "high profile" or "viral" cases. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/protesters-assault-trump-supporters-eggs-bottles-punches-after-rally-n585096 And yes, "mainstream" media did cover Trump fans being assaulted after rallies.
  5. 48 hours? Wow, that makes more sense. Tell her to enjoy that overtime while they let her get it, especially at CHI. From my wife's experience, they watch their staffing pretty close so they don't run into that. My mother in law actually works for CHI in Lincoln and is constantly battling with the "money side" that she needs more nurses but is told they can't afford to pay the overtime, incentives, or extra staff. But she also isnt at the Heart Heart Hospital.
  6. RN or NP??? Unless your wife is working 5 shifts a week. My mother-in-law is a nurse with 35 years of experience in Lincoln, went into management for the promotion/raise, and she might be making around $80-90,000. My wife is in her 13 year of nursing in Omaha. She is at one of the best hospitals in the city, works nights, has extra certifications for extra pay, and she gets around $60-65 when its all said and done. Sorry to be skeptical, but it doesn't add up.
  7. There is evidence of illegal campaign donations: Stormy Daniels payoff There is evidence of using the office of POTUS for personal financial gain: Maralargo membership, foreign leaders staying at Trump Hotel, etc... There is evidence of his foundation illegally using donations: they are being forced to dissolve These are just a few that could be used pretty easily if Democrats were up for the political fight that would ensue.
  8. My understanding is that her apartment is in the Navy Yard area. Developers in this area were sued by civil rights group for doing exactly this. "In 2018, a civil rights attorney suedthe Washington, D.C. government for allegedly discriminatory gentrification policies, claiming that development in Navy Yard area and other parts of southeast D.C. encouraged an influx of affluent “millennial creatives” who displaced minority residents." https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/poor-people-not-allowed-in-aocs-luxury-apartment-complex
  9. Yeah....she didn't really think that through. It is a pretty bad look. I mean, I can see why a US Congresswoman wouldn't be able to live in just any old apartment. There has to be some security concerns. But to pick a place that has an exception from affordable housing rules....woof!
  10. I just tried this free tax calculator from H&R Block. A family that earns $75,000 (median NE family income) and has 3 kids will get a refund of $261 while withholding $0 throughout the year. This doesn't take into account any other possible deductions, however it most likely wouldn't matter with the standard deduction increase. Anyway, is racism real????
  11. If a family of five makes around $65,000 year (blue collar family, maybe a teacher and stay at home spouse) they will get a standard deduction of $24000. This brings taxable income to 41,000, this means their tax bill would be around $5500. With the child tax credit ($6000 3x$2000) they would pay $0, and actually make about $500 off of the federal govt. Edit: I'm a public teacher married to a RN. I'm not complaining about where we're at at all. But I also know a whole lot of hard working, good people that don't pay a dime in federal income tax because unfortunately they don't make enough. But they still do an awful lot of complaining about how the government is spending someone else's money.
  12. Romney wasn't "crucified" for stating the fact that 47% of Americans don't pay income tax. He was "crucified" because he labeled the 47% as entitled do-nothings that suck off the tit of the wealthy and therefore he has no need to worry about them. He forgot to realize this 47% includes nurses, teachers, policeman, firefighters, US soldiers, city workers, construction workers, welders, mechanics, etc.... The Quote "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
  13. I say it's staged. If the guy in black actually landed the punch, the victims face would be going back and to the left ("back and to the left...back and to the left....) Who knows what the story is with this, sad no matter what. I just find it ironic that in a thread that has spend so much of the last week "jumping to conclusions", here y'all are again.... Have fun guys!
  14. Just feel like putting this out there: in the past 10 minutes I've seen several articles pointing out flaws in 2020 Presidential candidates. One candidate asked for approval to use his/her fingers while eating fried chicken. Another candidate used a comb to eat a salad to prove a point to a congressional aide. I'm waiting for the report on the candidate that not only eats fried chicken with silverware, but also admits to paying off adult film actresses to not talk about what may or may not have happened.....
  15. He should have put that apology on paper, walked it to the sports information office, and shoved it up someone's a$$! What a joke! But, haha Iowa....
  16. Please tell this to every middle school and high school kid you see. They are willing, they are just being told different by people they trust: like parents and guidance counselors...
  17. But all college kids are liberal. At least if their professors are doing the "brainwashing" right!
  18. You are not wrong about the troubles contractors face hiring qualified young people. But I do believe you are wrong about the reason. Young kids aren't lazy and afraid to get dirty. School districts and parents are mostly to blame (promoting 4 year colleges to kids who have no reason to go) along with the disappearance of union shops that used to celebrate the jobs available, fight for good wages, and provide proper training. There are a ton of factors we face now that we didn't 40-50 years ago, lazier kids isn't one of them.
  19. As an Industrial Tech teacher, I'd say the problem is more with the PARENTS having no interest in their kids doing anything that doesn't require a 4 year degree and requires getting dirty. The kids in our building love wood working, working on engines, and are BEGGING for a welding class.
  20. ^^^I have an entomologist friend and she shares some very interesting and frighting articles. Just one example is the dying off of bees. This has actually started to get into the mainstream, because "surprise", it has an effect on markets. So people are trying to do the right thing and raise honeybees and start hobby hives or whatever. What people don't realize is this is adding to the problem. The "honey bees" are actually assisting in the disappearance of "wild bees" that are responsible for a lot of pollination. https://www.insidescience.org/news/how-bees-you-know-are-killing-bees-you-don’t
  21. Meanwhile.... https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/oct/21/insects-giant-ecosystem-collapsing-human-activity-catastrophe
  22. This s#!t is getting a little scary...
  23. I think that's what he did. He just said it in a way that people who strongly support Trump (which is a majority of his constituents) would understand why it's an overreach.
