  1. ^^^I'll put you down for a "maybe".
  2. IF....the Huskers were to beat Fresno by 5 TD's on the road, does the AP put them right back at 19?
  3. Please tell me exactly how many schools have had to put up with a coach only winning 70% of their games? how many other schools have our tradition, resources, facilities, and dedicated fanbase? off of the top of my head....Texas, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, USC, and maybe a couple others that I'm missing as I type. Outside of retirement, NCAA violations, or subsequent failure of the new hire (e.g. Tennessee & Michigan & Nebraska for that matter), none of these teams replaced a coach with at least a 70% winning percentage and got better. Let's look at that list of "off the top of your head" comparisons and their current (or in the case of Texas most recent head coach - who was fired, BTW) Texas: Last won conference in 2009, had multiple conference championships, BCS appearances and a national title. Michigan: BCS bowl 2012 Notre Dame: BCS title game in 2012 Ohio State: BCS game in 2013 Alabama: Multiple National and Conference Championships Florida: BCS Bowl 2012 Tennessee: Can't fire a 9 win coach when you don't have a 9 win coach. Poor comparison. Oklahoma: Multiple conference championships, a national title, many BCS appearances included the most recent just last season. USC: Lane Kiffin was fired with a 65% winning percentage of 28-15. Not exactly 70%, but not 40% either. If you want to compare Bo with all those other coaches, be sure you compare the entirety of his resume. Yes, he's 57-24 at Nebraska (not counting 2003 Alamo Bowl), but he's won 0 conference championships and been in 0 BCS bowls. So as far as being compared to the other coaches on the list, the only one he compares to is Lane Kiffin. I would even allow comparisons to Brady Hoke, despite his BCS appearance. Hoke's winning percentage? 67%, and he's on a VERY hot seat, though having the AD who hired him still in charge definitely helps him. Additionally, Bo's experience at Nebraska (7 years) is longer than all the other coaches on that list, other than Stoops and Saban. Yet his list of accomplishments on the field is shorter than most. I guess I wasn't clear with my delivery... Michigan: Fired Carr, had to put up with Rich Rod Notre Dame: Charlie Weis ring a bell? Ohio State: Tressel was removed because of violations... Alabama: how were they before Saban? not a superpower Florida: Urban "retired" Tennessee: have struggled since Fulmer was fired Oklahoma: was bad during the 90's until Stoops came USC: Carroll more than likely left amid violations and Kiffin ignited the dumpster fire. My point is that if a "successful" coach is fired, the ship is not righted immediately.
  4. T2T...There is definitely room to improve and "right this thing". However, rebuilding the house to add a sunroom is unnecessary. Husker fans are "frustrated" with the last 15 years, we all are. No one thinks the current situation is ideal and all we can ask for. But, some of us think we need to actually see the cracks in the foundation before we hire a demo crew. Because, I believe, firing Bo "now" along with the Solich situation would be demolishing this program to a point that it will never get rebuilt. My threshold: Bo Pelini either has a disaster season (4-8) or at least two seasons where the team is barely bowl eligible (6-6) depending on record and competition. This would at least show candidates that NU is/was close in the last couple years, but the expectations were not unrealistic for a traditional football power. Therefore, we fans might get a coach to make that next step; if Pelini isn't that coach.

  6. This. So much this. I wish I could give you more than a single +1. Thanks, man. But I actually had a stat wrong. There are 100k public schools in America, not 10k. So the DoD budget would be enough to rebuild 10% of all public schools, not all of them. I corrected it above. Sorry for the misleading stat. My bad. So the kids will have to wait 10 years for a new school? Guess they'll just have to rough it and fight of the vermin
  7. Sounds like a high IQ guy. I bet he is a grinder in the weight room and a coach on the field. Probably a great route runner, too... Kinda reminds me of Ed McCaffrey! I was going to say more Adam Morrison... because you know, he is white. I could see that...if you threw in a little Wayne Chrebet....because you know, he is a football player
  8. oooooooorrrrrr.... You could post whatever you want and let it stand for discussion. Probably the best way to attain the credibility that Landlord desires. I kinda wish I could take my "+1" back from your "Record against ranked teams" thread LOM. Takes guts to make a thread that you even call meaningless in the OP then turn around and call a guy out because his post might not be "credible". "not conclusive of anything" = meaningless

  10. I can't +1 that enough. I took my kids (they will be 5 in Nov) through the o-line line. My kids just wanted to meet football players, and that happened to be the shortest line. I loved seeing my kids excitement, and the linemen were great with all of the kids coming through, and it was a beautiful day. But I still felt uncomfortable to the point that I stood way back to take pictures of my kids... Being in the stadium and having my kids run around in the end zone was awesome though!
  11. The Nebraska Oath Keepers were marching in the Gretna Days Parade a couple weekends ago. They were handing out flyers, I just smiled at the guy and said, "no thanks". The guy next to me said he would take one and the Oath Keeper said while looking at me, "At least we have a few men willing to fight for America..." Even the "harmless" groups, that may even have good intentions, can turn scary with a dynamic person with a twisted sense of reality.
  12. It would be nice to be top 10 going into Wisc, but I don't think Nebraska gets a lot of credit for the schedule outside of MSU. So I stuck with #11. I agree that MSU will still carry a lot of weight and be very important. But I don't think MSU will be top 10 when they meet, even though the probably should be... This is based on the AP poll afterall
  13. My rankings are based on the AP poll. I know the poll is meaningless now, but it is the only historically "legitimate" starting point out... Preseason Rank: 22 FAU- Win - (22) McNeese- Win - (23)... I think Michigan beats Notre Dame and creates a shuffle in the 20-25 range.. Fresno-Win- (23)....blah week, no major changes, South Carolina and Georgia might switch spots. Miami- Win (20) - Miami win carries a little weight. KSU, Clemson, and Miss St all lose... Ill- Win (19) - kinda of a boring week but I'm guessing something will happen to move up a little. MSU- Win (15) - MSU will have already lost to Oregon so the game doesn't carry a ton of weight, but MSU will still be top 15... NW- Win (14) - One of the SEC teams will lose and fall behind NU BYE- (14) Rutgers- Win (14) - another blah week, 14 should beat unranked... Purdue- Win (12) - upsets gotta happen at some point BYE- (11) - More upsets and wishful thinking Wisc- LOSS (17) I believe Wisc will be a 15-20 range team at this point. Huskers and Badgers basically switch spots... Minn- Win (15) STATEMENT GAME!!!! Huskers look impressive and take advantage of some other teams' poor performances. Iowa- Win (12) Nebraska finishes strong, but Wisc wins the west via tie-breaker... Cotton Bowl vs. #8 Auburn: WIN (7) !!!! I got kool-aid on tap: 12-1 and top 10 finish!!! Playoff teams: Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon. I'm already excited about watching those games, too bad it won't happen because I'm sure I'm wrong.
  14. Quick question and I appreciate all responses. I am hoping to take my three 4-year olds to fan day on Friday. My plan was to swing by a store and pick up 3 cheap footballs or something they could take with them to get signed because I saw that each fan was asked to only bring in 1 item. Now, when I go to Huskers.com, they talk about a stand in front of the entrance selling items that people can get signed. My question is, are outside items able to be brought in, or do I need to save my cash and buy something small at the stadium? Thanks. edit: I should mention that I don't care at all about re-sale value or collectibility or anything like that. I'm just hoping to get them entrenched into the fandom They will probably break whatever gets signed before FAU, so that is why I'm going inexpensive, a.k.a. cheap!
  15. One the teachers here at the high school had a BMI that was morbidly obese. He's a championship weight lifter - BMI can be on its own not an accurate measure of obesity I can't comment on the teacher your referring to... BUT....I have seen a lot of guys that could lift a building off of its foundation that I swear will be dead by the age of 50 from a heart attack. Just go to the Gold's Gym for an hour, you'll see 'em. Strong does not equal Healthy.
  16. Does everyone realize this was just a "prediction"? Nebraska hasn't actually finished third in the division yet...
  17. Try every single high school student that has enlisted in the military. It's time to quit coddling these football players. "OHHH NOOO, I MIGHT PICK A PLACE THAT IS SLIGHTLY NOT AS GOOD AS THIS OTHER PLACE TO PLAY A GAME AND READ BOOKS AND WORK OUT ALL DAY...BOOOO HOOOO, WOE IS ME" They can kiss my ass. Nobody is trying to kill them. They aren't jumping out of airplanes. You tell someone you are going to do something, I.E commit somewhere, you freaking do it. If you're old enough, with a parent's permission, to sign to up shoot a damn gun and get shot back at, then you're old enough to take some responsiblility for where you are going to go to PLAY A GAME. Oh and some education too. I believe that is exactly what he is doing...
  18. Hey, I generally agree. There is no reason to use derogatory terms for someone if their actions alone paint the picture of their own ridiculousness. I don't personally call them "teabaggers," I don't make fun of John Boehner's last name, I resisted the humor of "Bush and Dick" during the last Republican regime, and I don't objectify Sarah Palin for her looks. But if you adopt the teabag as your own symbol, you better be ready for ridicule. I lump it in with all the other terms that get thrown around like democraps, libtards, rethuglicans, etc. It's derogatory and does absolutely nothing to further the conversation. This was my point. It does absolutely nothing to facilitate bi-partisanship. Neither does the Tea Party. That's their point.
  19. ^^^One of my boys (3 years at the time) told his preschool teacher that "dad was working on his dick because it was old...." (I was sanding and re-staining the deck last summer)
  20. Good thing the U.S. brought him home then....
  21. Comparing "kid wanting teddy bear" to "cancer" is the same as comparing "my problems" to "God's problems".... Is your kid going to die if they don't get the teddy bear? Because if the answer is "no", then it isn't the same comparison. At all. I wasn't the one comparing teddy bears to cancer.... I'm not comparing my childrens' "problems" to the plights of the world. I'm comparing our (mankind's) confusion and frustration in God's works to the confusion and frustrations our children feel when they don't get everything they want. Our world is in chaos, people are suffering, murder and rape happen, pediatric cancer happens. And none of us understand why. That's my point.... I know the comparison that you are trying to make. It is just not even remotely valid. Why? Do 4 year old children fully understand what it takes to raise a family and manage a household?.....no Does that mean their parents don't love them and know that there will come a time when the child understands?.....not necessarily Do "believers" fully understand why a gracious God would allow suffering in the world?....no Does that mean that God doesn't love them (or exist at all) and know that there will be a time his children understands?....not necessarily I don't mean for the comparison to stand as evidence to convert non-believers. I use it to reconcile some of the challenges I face in my own mind as a believer. I seek answers, I believe Science (keep in mind most Christians do also : Catholics and Lutherans certainly), but I also know that all of my questions won't be answered by the time my life is done.
