  1. KUs performance last year was a definite step backwards. Nebraska pasted them with a first-year head coach. The Hawks once again will have a lot to prove Briscoe or no Briscoe.
  2. I am so tired of reliving this moment. It sucked. TO won his titles. Can we finally move on already?
  3. This sucks. I think Jaivorio was getting ready to make a big leap forward on the football field.
  4. A national championship is not being offered in D1 college football. The BCS doesn't claim to crown a national champion.....they crown a BCS championship game winner. The NCAA doesn't have anything to do with the post season in D1 and does what it can to distance itself from the bowl selection process. Until the NCAA decides they want to crown a champ, we won't have one. Here is what we do have. We have a group of bowls, five of which are the most illustrious. Those bowls, all labeled as BCS bowls, are the Sugar, Fiesta, Orange, and Rose....plus the BCS championship. We have a very definite system for reaching those bowls. Champions in the Big 6 conferences get auto bids. Other teams must gain an at large bid. Notre Dame has an advantage in this area because, like it or not, they are considered to be one of the top programs in the country. Other conferences must scratch and claw to get their way in, and they should have to do that. Most of the time they must go unbeaten, and, again, they should have to do that. It's only fair. When the D1 football season starts, programs aim for bowls. The lower conference teams aim for a conference crown and the best bowl possible. Teams in the Big 6 hope for BCS bowls or the level of bowl just under BCS level. Teams are assigned at the end of the season and no thought is given to pairing them in the best way to determine a national champion because, as asserted before, the NCAA and the BCS don't have that as part of their agendas. Teams that win their bowl are happy because they get to end the season with a win. Teams like Boise State, and Utah, twice, end the season with the feeling of having slayed a giant. Teams from the Big 6 that win a BCS bowl of any kind get validation. Their program is one of the tops in the nation. And, finally, that one team that wins the BCS championship leaves the stage knowing they have done the best they possibly could do in any season. People should realize these truths and stop praying for a playoff because the NCAA doesn't want one. End of story. Look on the bright side. At least we have a system that rewards solid play and has a clear-cut methodology. It is a bummer that no team can say they are the true national champ, and, at the same time, it's a blessing. Teams that win a BCS game of any kind, including the BCS title game, have the best case to make for their team being the best in college football. Fans love the debate and they love that their teams are in the limelight. Forget about the playoff. Go with what we got and try to be happy. It's all we are ever going to get.
  5. What kind of obnoxious are we talking about? There are different types. Oklahomans are obnoxious because they are always good, always hyped and always standing in the way. Colorado fans are obnoxious because no matter how bad they are in any given year....they're way better than Nebraska. What about the other teams on the Colorado schedule? They flat out don't care.
  6. Ok, so the Lions never had the Cowardly Lion on their helmets. But they might as well have. Hahaha.
  7. All these teams changed helmets to forget about their terrible past in the NFL. We want to reconect with our past. Let's see, I can't remember, what style of helmet did we have for all five of our national titles? That's what I thought. So why change anything?
  8. I think we should count down the days until game week. This counting down days until fall practice starts is a real drag. It's like, alright, they've started fall ball....how many days, hours and minutes until they actually play.
  9. A couple of obvious points here. First off, there are quite a few years through the history of the program where we have played very few ranked teams, and maybe none at home. Other years, we play a few ranked teams, but all at home. You just get a few chances to play the ranked on the road. Playing ranked teams on the road is tough. If you counted up TOs record against the ranked on the road, it would probably be just above 500 and probably only after his run of dominance in the 1990s. The point is that some stats are anomolies and shouldn't be taken as seriously. Yes, we have not done well against the ranked overall, and that's bad. But winning against the ranked, on the road, is overblown. If we win against Oklahoma this year at home that win will not mean any less than a win in Norman. Or, taken another way, would a win at Tech last year (we should have won that game) greatly change your opinion about what this year's team was capable of? Bottom line, when looking at teams and judging whether they have a chance at an MNC, two things are considered. First, what kind of team do they have coming back. And, second, what does the schedule look like. In other words, where are the tough games. If those games are mostly at home, the likelyhood of a title run goes way up. This wouldn't even be noted if wins on the road against the ranked were anything but a crap shoot.
  10. Life feels good these days at Nebraska. And it should. We may not run the option anymore, but with TO and Bo running the program, we are doing things the way we used to do them. That will only lead to success on the field. It must be acknoledged, however, that the program and the team fell very far in the few years that Callahan ran the show, so far that our close games against Texas had to viewed as flukes born from the fact that the Horns didn't take us seriously. Colorado used to, well, they still do brag about their close games with NU without realizing that it was hard for Nebraska to get up for those games in many years.
  11. I might follow another team, but I could never live and die with another squad the way that I do with the Big Red. Fan ties are built over time and you can't just recreate 30 or so years of memories out of thin air.
  12. The QB battle is going to be fun to watch. Sure is nice to know that we have some solid prospects on the team. Lee, Spano, and Green with Gilbert on the way. QBs are a definite must have. Good to know we have some options for years to come.
  13. It's hard to jump five or six games into the season when the calendar says June. I just want football to get here and I don't want to fast forward. The season goes by fast enough as it is.
  14. This doesn't seem to be a worthwhile discussion to have. Suh and Carriker played different positions. Both were significant players for the Huskers. Who is better? Don't know. Don't care. And the idea that an NFL career is the decider, well, a lot of great Huskers had bad NFL careers. Trev comes quickly to mind.
  15. Ron Brown....you didn't know what to expect from Ron Brown. What, do you live in a cave? THIS GUY ROCKS. I can't think of one even slightly bad thing to say about him. Football players know....Ron Brown is coaching for them. He cares about them FIRST and results second. HE WOULD NEVER BS A PLAYER. As a result, he gets players that maximize their ability, trust what they are taught and, in turn, win a lot of games.
  16. Because we have Bo....Why the hell not? GBR
  17. What Bo needs is another solid season, not a singular win. If Bo can put together a season that is identical to last year's, plus a win or two and close the gap in terms of margin of defeat, he will be doing his job. A signature is something that is left when you are gone. T.O.'s signature was not just the three NCs at the end of his reign, but, more over, a long string of solid seasons, and a reputation as an annual national contender. What would a VT win mean if the 2010 season ends with a mark of 5-6? Answer. Not a thing.
  18. The KSU game of 2007 was a classic example of running up the score and looking classless. I think Tom held that game against Billy C even though we won. I was like "Hey, this is Nebraska. It's bad enough that you are coaching us to terrible losses. Now you're making us look bad, even when we are winning. Way to go Billy C." Not that I hold a grudge. LOL.

    Need help

If you are a real person, Coach Brown and you will get along fine. Don't try to be something that you are not. Coach Brown can spot a fake from a mile away. Count on that.
  20. The significance of any one game is determined by a team's won-lost record when it faces a certain team and upon the stakes of the game. Sure, we would all like to beat that one team, whether that's VT, MU, TT, OU, CU, KSU, or KU, but if we lose a ton of other games, who really cares.
  21. Isn't this the case for the majority of football teams. Take out the absolutely dominant and the absolutely terrible. What's left? A lot of teams that will have ups and downs.
  22. So the only cost is measured in a few extra $$$$. Then its worth it to have a full walk on program where coaches take any kids that they think might have a chance to develop into anything at all.
  23. This is good news, and interesting. But, remember, ESPN and other national pundits are the last ones to know when a team has arrived and the last ones to know when a program is about to fall. Unless we are talking Notre Dame, then the national media never figures out that the Irish SUCK.
  24. The run game must breakout this year. By that, I mean that the run game must be such a menacing threat that defenses must worry about it FIRST. If a defense can balance its attention between run and pass, or, give more attention to getting after our QB, life will be much, much harder for Mr. Lee.
  25. Grant hit it just right. National titles, Big 12 titles, those are nice, but playing hard and winning a reasonable # of games every year is most important. We don't want to go 5-6 and miss bowl games and we don't want to be beat 70-10 ever again.
