  1. hire a coach that knows how important the run game is, and that having Fyfe throw the ball 48 times is probably a bad idea. Maybe even bring a defensive scheme that doesn't get torched by Purdue. Shouldn't be too difficult. And that coach would be who? And why on gods green earth would he come to Nebraska? Tom Herman and Pat Narduzzi. Two guys we should have hired this past offseason but didn't. Right, because either one of them would choose Nebraska over USC, Miami, or South Carolina. And who knows what other jobs will be open. Why would a hot coach come to a place where they fire 9 win coaches and coaches after 1 year?? Why would ANY coach? You're basically telling coaches they have to win 10 or more games and/or win the B1G in your first year or you're gone. Good luck with that. Yes we have injuries. Sure other teams would be fine. Other teams don't have walk-on QBs from GI as their backup. I think people are underestimating how divided the locker room is and how bad the depth is. Yes, there have been some bad coaching decisions, but pretty much every coach does that at times. If you truly want the Huskers to be better, then you'll support the team through this and see how Riley does next year and the year after that. Asking for him to be fired right now will only make us worse, MUCH MUCH worse in the long run.
  2. I know there's a lot of talk about coaching blunders and all that. Have we forgotten already how many bonehead mistakes the previous coach made over the years? It seems to me that we just aren't getting the breaks this year that we sometimes got in the past. Let's look at the 2013 season... We finished the regular season 8-4 First game of the year, Wyoming gives us a scare. They scored 2 TDs in the last 6 min and had ball late - we hold and win 37-34. Then we come to the NW game. Obviously we win on a crazy hail mary, 27-24. Against Michigan, Ameer scores to take the lead with 2 minutes left. We hadn't scored since the 1st quarter Our defense holds, we win 17-13. Penn St, we get a FG with 4:30 left in the game to tie it up and win in OT, 23-20 Any or all of those games could've easily turned the other way. It seems this season we're just getting all the close games to fall on the losing side. If we lost all those games, we would've finished the season 4-8. I almost wish we had, then we could've fired the previous coach because of a bad record and then the fanbase could be united around the new coach and not have as much controversy!
  3. I don't literally mean talent wise, we are a mid-major. If you read the original post, it's about coaches and learning on the job. Coaches don't learn on the job at big programs like Nebraska. They learn on the job at mid-majors, which is why the comparison.
  4. I saw a post-game Beck quote something to the effect of "Sometimes I get stubborn when something doesn't work, and I keep trying it. I put away my small hammer and get a bigger hammer and try to force things." This was in response to the horrid play calling in the 4th quarter/2nd half. As I read that, it hit me... are we a friggin mid-major team now? Is Nebraska really a place where coaches come to learn the game?? A statement like that just makes me think that Beck is way over his head. An offensive coordinator should be learning how to call an offense at a MAC or SunBelt school, or an FCS school. NOT at Nebraska. I know some of this was talked about in the past when coaches were hired. But it really hit me again after that quote. Think about how many coaches we have here that are learning their job... Bo learning to be a head coach, Beck learning to be an OC. JP learning to be a DC, the golf pro.... etc etc. Is this really what we've become?? I like Bo in general. But I think he's over his head. I'm not calling for his firing, we've won 9 games for 4 years, one of only a few schools to do it. But that streak might be in trouble this season...
  5. excellent post! Yes, questionable calls happen to every team at some point in the season. Yes, coaches get upset. But Bo takes it to a whole new level. I think its ok to get upset at the refs about a call. But yell for a minute, then move on to the next play. Bo's problem is that he lets it fester and can't let it go. He keeps yelling at the refs for the rest of the game. He loses his focus, and his team follows. It's no surprise that he didn't blow up in the Ohio State game, and we came back and won that one. But in our losses, things spiral out of control.
  6. what? you have no problem with him trying to protect tradition to the extent of no B1G team would play in the national championship again? If Nebraska goes 13-0 and plays in the Rose Bowl, with no national championship at stake, you're ok with that? I'm not!
  7. Delany is SO opposed to a "Plus-One", that if it were to happen, which it sounds like its very plausible now, he's willing to keep the B1G from participating in it! I just don't get all the "Rose Bowl or nothing" talk in today's college football. Hopefully we don't regret joining this conference! Sounds like it might start hurting recruiting too.. http://rivals.yahoo....ns_steam_120811
  8. as I said in another thread: I'll be pissed if its LSU v Bama part 2. I absolutely won't watch it. A team absolutely should win its conference. Alabama didn't even win its own division. And my big problem is how on earth do you KNOW that Bama is better? The conferences don't play against each other, so we have no way to compare really. Supposedly the computers say the big 12 is the best conference. So, how can the winner of the best conference not be in the championship game??? Yes, OSU lost to Iowa State. But it was a day of tragedy, and they missed a field goal that sure looked good on replay. And why look at just the loss? OSU wins were against much better competition. The fact that we really don't know if OSU is better or Bama is better, would automatically make me vote for OSU because we already saw bama lose to LSU. We don't know what OSU would do. GIVE THEM A SHOT!
  9. I think most people who vote would vote for someone who won their conference over someone who didn't. On the other hand if the Cowboys don't jump over Alabama i could see the Big 12 being pissed off and start seeing a playoff format very very soon. I could see other conferences joining in because they would feel SEC is given preferential treatment over other conferences. I agree, I am so sick and tired of the SEC. Its bad enough having 1 team get the treatment, but 2? In my opinion its a no brainer that you put OSU vs LSU And yes, I'm so sick of the SEC too. Give OSU a shot. do NOT want to see an all SEC championship game.

  11. Sadly, unless you count the blow out losses, not much. Kind of like our Sunbelt tour two yrs ago. This would have been a great time to get someone reps. This years OOC schedule was pretty tough. Hard to throw guys in when we are struggling. I just think that Bo needs to do more to develop depth. A prime example is Center. Who has experience at that position? Pensick (sp?) When is the last time he even took a snap? Caputo was on one leg last year and we had no one who could come in. Martinez on half a leg last year and no one to come in. I also look at the failed Cody Green experiment. Putting him in with his back foot on our own goal line not the best time to try and get some depth. It ruined Beau Davis against TT. Maybe it is a recruiting issue. We need to get guys who in a spring and fall can grasp the complexities of the O and D to at least make them serviceable. Using Carnes as an example, I think he was perfectly suited to come in against UM and hand off left, hand off right, toss sweep left etc..... Again using the example of this season, who did we have at RB with experience besides Rex? WR besides Kinnie? Center, QB, Punter, kicker etc..... It seems we have the inability or reluctance to develop a plan to get guys meaningful reps. I am not at practice so I won't assume how it works, but it is obvious practice does not translate into playing time per say. Frustrating to see god starters and then have no idea who would come in if they went down. We started a true Fresh on O liine because of the lack of depth/development. Other schools can start true fresh and have success. Why is it an issue at NU? The bolded part always bothers me too. Is our system THAT hard to learn. Isn't that why we got rid of Watson? And why can't we have a subset of the playbook that freshmen can utilize, instead of not seeing the field until they know the entire playbook. We're keeping our playmakers off the field, and it ticks me off. Also, Bo's stupid doghouse. Its like Hotel California in there. Apparently its easy to get in to, but you can never leave. How many playmakers are getting lost in the doghouse?
  12. which is exactly why we're seeing the "youth and inexperience" take its toll on this year's defense. If he never plays the backups, we're going to see the problem every year when seniors leave.
  13. Maybe he's telling the truth, he didn't interview for THE job. Maybe he interviewed for the DC job... if he's as unhappy here as many think he is, and OSU being his alma mater.... Someone on another board said a private jet left from Omaha, flew to Lincoln, then flew to tOSU on Wednesday last week. I don't know how to track those things, but someone else apparently does...
  14. Because I'm sure Bo would tell us if he actually had interviewed. Just like Urban Meyer has been telling the truth about not interviewing at OSU the last two weeks...
  15. this. TMart even plays hurt, no chance for Carnes, unless TMart breaks a leg...seriously, he won't be developed next season either......oh well. IF Carnes transfers, I'm going to be pissed. Granted, I have no idea if he's better than Martinez. But I have a feeling that he is. The fact that we only have two QBs on scholarship, and one of them transfers speaks poorly of the program. If a second string QB, who is the only other QB on scholarship, decides to transfer, then you KNOW he's not getting a fair shot at the starting job. If he was, he would stick it out and hope to win the job. If he transfers, I will take it as proof that Bo has some serious coaching deficiencies.
