  1. refs didn't help, but we don't have enough speed or players who can understand a snap count! Grrr
  2. I know that most Blame Wats, and I carry no brief for the guy, but I am not certain he really is at the heart of the trouble and changing the name of the OC will solve things. I believe we have a world class defensive coordinator that is still not comfortable as a head coach either understanding or developing "his" offensive scheme. I think we have had an offensive direction by committee and of course is only my guessing. Watson prefers a more wide open passing attack with perhaps a 50 50 mix. TO I would bet has strongly suggested to Bo with Bo wisely given his background on D, that Bo should adopt a run heavy offense with emphasis on the option. Using that scenario, I can envision Watson being told of the direction Bo had chosen to go. Recall last year that Watson it was reported had told T Gabbert that they were going away from an offense featuring the passing game. I think that was not his decision. So they cobbled together an offense around a running qb, TM, not by Watson's choice, but because he was told to do it. Blocking is changed, receivers have a limited role and it comes down to timing and making the right option read AND keeping the one qb we had that could run it sound. The a chillies heel came when TM was hurt or a D could stop the read option. We has a terribly impotent offense then. So we try a wildcat a lot and basically make it up. I truly believe this quite possibly could be the result of Bo not understanding offense and thinking with or without TO's imput he could design a ball control rushing offense to compliment a D with Suh in 2009 and be very effective. So you end up manufacturing an offense to please the HC on the fly. You don't necessarily believe in it. The head coach doesn't understand the limitation or the problem of building an offense with one qb that can run it, but backed by an option guru from the old days who is AD, insists on implementation. So now we are master of nothing on offense, Jack of no trades, and likely back to a drawing board. Whether hiring a new OC will change anything or not I don't know. I do believe that part of the problem is that Bo doesn't really understand building an offense. There is a big difference in being a coordinator and being a head coach. Hopefully Bo is learning and regardless who is the OC he will know when to intervene and when to let the coordinator roll. Not an easy job.
  3. Sorry, but that is total paranoia. If any of this bs about a conspiracy to use officials to keep us out of the CCG were true , the logical thing to do would have been to use it in the Misery game. They had 7 for 40and the big red had 6 for 50. They could have easily called a hold on a couple of Roy's TDs. Let's quit this junk. It makes us look like whiners. Next year when we lead the big 10 in penalties and we probably will because of style of play, will we whine that they are trying to keep the new kid from winning? Geesh Most of the penalties were on the offense. Illegal formation, false start, holding, etc. What "style of play" are you referring to? The Same style of play that has had us averaging more than seven per game (over 8 this year) and having markedly more than our opponents each of the last three years ..the Bo era. Aggressive defense has given us many penalties, but a price you can afford if being one of the best scoring Ds. We are not the victim of a big 12 conspiracy and it is time to stop acting like cry babies with every loss.

  5. Do not ascribe to malice or diabolical genius, what can most easily be explained by just doing something dumb.
  6. Although it would be nice to see misery lose anyway, truly if we lose to CU and go to the CCG by default, it will almost certainly give us another loss. If we cannot beat CU at home, we will likely be embarrassed by osu or ou in Dallas.
  7. Actually if we are ever 5-7 and Bo and Carl act like that, there would be no rumors, they would be fired. And I dare say that half the members now claiming the did nothing wrong on Sat. Night would be leading the charge to "dump em". Tolerance these days for coaches acting badly is a far cry from what it was even a decade ago, but what has not changed is the lack of tolerance for shinanigans by a losing coach. Mangino would not likely have been fired in 07. Leach would not likely have been fired if the espn whiner's kid came up right after crabtree caught the pass that beat Tejas. last year Mac Brown could have backhanded Colt McCoy and most of the fan base and half their crooked athletic department would claim he was just getting his attention. This year they would give him the pink slip. Where Bo screwed up is that there will be no "on the other hand" if he has a cluster f of a season and IMO regardless of performance, a meltdown again that ticks off the administration will be the end. One should keep their "get out of jail free card" as long as possible. A lesson for all who have a position where others control your length of employment.
  8. Getting a highly sought WR is going to be very difficult. They want to catch the rock and not spend most of their time blocking. Last year I believe Wats told Lil Gabbett that we were taking the offense in a different direction and whether by mutual decision or not Gabbert a passing QB decommitted. I think it was right after that we had a couple WRs decommit. My chronology may be wrong but the basis I believe is true. With TM when healthy emphasizing the run, I don't see it changing. We have some talented qbs in the pipeline but with TM a freshman, I see little promise of a top WR coming. And with Starling being the top pick in bb draft, I doubt he makes it. That kid is special.
  9. I agree, while its too late to burn a redshirt, at least TRY SOMETHING.. Will the magnetometer catch the explosives or will they have to pat you down. . somehow in the unfortunate aftermath of the ATM game and the many pics of Bo being "somewhat belligerent" I have thought about the other big news story, the TSA patdowns. Can you imagine the thoughts of the guy who knows who Bo is, has seen the vein bulging photos and has drawn the short straw and has to do his pat down.
  10. the last thing we have to worry about if we make it to the CCG, is being intentionally screwed by either the big 12 minus 2 or the refs. The only way this will be a topic is if we lose and some paranoid fans cannot accept that beyond illegal or unethical treatment our Huskers can lose. The second to last thing we have to worry about is Bo going off in a manner ethat keeps the team from doing their best and invites bench calls and causes us not to be given any benefit of doubt. If you look at how our D covers routes, only an idiot would complain about the PI calls when the scheme is very effective. Want fewer penalties, play D like Okie Lite. We're going to be the most penalized team in the big ten next year. deal with it. it will not be a conspiraccccccy. The biggest problem we are going to have in a CCG is scoring. I can't see TM being sound enough to be effective. If the opponent is OSU, I'd say with Cody we might score in the 20s, but that won't get it done. Against OU, I think it will be in the teens or less. TM gimpy, I believe will be the same deal. With our staffs probably wise misinformation, who knows about Lee? I think if he is healthy and can throw, he along with ten or fifteen Wild Rex...with Rex throwing at least once, has the best chance of victory. If he could play the game he did against AZ last year, we can get it done. My guess is that he is hurt and only being used to cause foes to scheme for Lee as well. If we can somehow limp thru CU and the CCG...a huge and improbable if right now...TM should be ready for a BCS bowl and the team will have some much needed rest and healing.
  11. Assuming this is true, it is nothing to delight in. Sure he has made some critical mistakes, but he is a playmaker on our offense that has very few with TM hobbled. His ability attracts more attention and thus helps our run game. He is a legit threat to take it all the way on any play. And he has spent his college career helping bring the Big Red back. I would love to see him on the field Friday for his sake and the team's coming into the game banged up, more controversy than needed and facing a team that sans a terrible coach is playing much better.
  12. it was more than obvious Bo (and Carl) were out of control Saturday night like few coaches in recent times. It will be obvious when it happens again. Only apologists didn't find the behavior way beyond the pale. Now tell me how many of the other coaches you mentioned behavior was so off the charts it rated comment in the Washington Post. That is what has people who are alums, faculty or simply care deeply about the University concerned. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/early-lead/2010/11/nebraska_chancellor_to_address.html
  13. Are you assuming there was an ultimatum, or you have info on this? Pelini said there wasn't one, and if there was it was between the three of them. Fans' expectations of how this situation should be handled is much more extreme than those who actually make the call. I doubt that any poster was at the meeting or phone conference where bo's actions were addressed, it doesn't take a genius to understand there was an ultimatum. When the chancellor who we all gave great credit to handling our conference switch, feels it is necessary to make a public statement condemning the coaches actions before discussing it with him, it doesn't take a genius to know he's poed. You don't have to be an expert in athletic department or university politics to understand what Bo got was an ultimatum. Why do you think TO included that paragraph about what he expects to never happen again?? idle chit chat? If you have ever been on either side of the desk as the boss or the employee called into the office for behavior that reflects poorly on the organization and the you or the boss says "We don't expect this to ever happen again". Unless you are dumb as a fence post you know you were just given an ultimatum. Expect to lose your job if ther is a repeat. Pretty simple stuff and quite obvious. I am not at all sure that Bo can control himself from season to season. The chancellor will not forget and if similar behavior occurs late next season, Bo will be let go. vaunt on it.
  14. fair enough, opinions are like noses and ah's, everybody has one. And I do believe many previously sane fans have bought into a "conspiracy" of one sort or another. One has only to peruse these threads to see how wide that fan base has become. We had threads droning on and on claiming Carl P was in the right and the Aggie journalist was lying when it was pretty obvious from the gitgo that Carl was telling a whopper that Bo repeated in the Press Conference. The weakass excuse this afternoon when Carl came clean was that Bo didn't know the circumstances of the "assault". There would be only two reasons for that. Carl lied to his brother who was equally out of control on Sat. Night or they had a "conspiracy". that is how every fan outside of Huskerland sees it and that is how Perlman and TO see it. It is beyond what UNL will tolerate and the message has been sent. As to the conspiracy that the refs have decided to screw us, has anyone offered a rational explanation as to why the discrepancy of calls for and calls against began with Bo's regime? To me it seems obvious that he plays an aggressive D, which is fine and obviously WORKS. But a byproduct is likely twice as many calls against you as an opponent with a bend don't break cover two D that most opponents run. I have not seen the calls broken down as to O vs D vs opponents. We likely have and deserve more procedure penalties because we have been sloppy on O for the cast three years. If the league thru the refs were wanting to screw us, they would have called many of our long TD runs back. It is easy on nearly every play to "see" a hold. A flag and they wipe out a td and put us in a long situation. Why didn't that happen? now we had some bad calls Sat night, but a conspiracy? get real. perhaps the most deserved and the most untimely penalty went to Bo Sat. Night. Do you honestly think it wasn't earned? We need to get back to football. If we play the same in the big 10 we will lead the league in penalties. As long as we Aldo lead in scoring D and don't have too manta flags on an inept offense we will be fine. Why not stop this we were screwed whining and beat our opponents in the last two or hopefully three games we play as a member of the Big 12. Go out as winners not whiners!!
  15. That declaration of "support" was a lot like one from Jerry Jones. It is essentially an ultimatum from or through TO from Perlman, to both Pelinis that they are gone if they embarrass the university with out of control behavior again. It had to be said. I hope the two can conform to the ultimatum, because we certainly don't need a coaching change in this program now.
  16. Many fans and a few scribes thought we were an elite football team heading into this season. The coach stoked those flames. With our early success many were using ink instead of a lead pencil to put us into the NCG. We explained away SDSU by claiming that we "played down to our competition". We looked for scapegoats in the loss to TU and blamed playing at home, the OC, etc. It was obvious from a loss to a team that has proven to be as weak as Tejas, that we had problems. Yet with a couple victories, many were back on the NCG "we are the greatest" bandwagon. Iowa State was not taken as another warning sign that we have major flaws. People were concerned at who wecouldjump in the top 5 as we run the table and won the CCG. So we lost at ATM. We got a couple of terrible calls. But instead of looking at the deficiencies in our team, we go into total meltdown with conspiracy theories that would make any of the black helicopter crowd proud. Our HC and his brother were out of control and unprofessional in losing and fed the conspiracy theorists. Only die hard fans who are near sighted, don't see the damage the behavior and the paranoia do to the reputation of our FB team, it's fans and the University. If the basketball Huskers go on the road and shoot two free throws and the opponent shoots sixteen, I'm sure that the coach likely will get a T for complaining, but he wouldn't be screaming at officials between every play instead of coaching his team. He would hopefully not chase the officials yelling at them after the game. I would hope if his brother, an assistant coach would not in a post game temper tantrum, grab someones camera and break it. If he did I would expect him not to lie about the circumstances. I would expect the head coach not to repeat the lie at a pressed. I would expect the coach to condemn the behavior without being threatened by the Chancellor. I would expect the coach to clear the air, explaining that there is no conspiracy of the league office or the big 12 officials. I would expect him to say, " The only reason we lost was that we did not coach and play well enough to win. The University of Nebraska will never look for scapegoats or excuses. We have more games to play and our sole focus will be on being a better football team" We are getting a rep as a whiney team with a whiney fan base. That should not happen. "Woe is me, "they" don't want us to win." is for losers and we should not exinit that behavior on any level of Big Red athletics. We have been the most penalized team in the big 12 since Bo has been here. We averaged over 7 per game the first two years and we are averaging over 8 this year. Did the league start penalizing NU in 2008 because the knew in 2010 we would get a big 10 offer? Cue the black helicopters!! We play very aggressively on defense and often very carelessly on offense. Thar is a recipe for a lot of penalties. That does not excuse poor calls like the late hit call at ATM or picking up the flag on their PI call. And Bo and Carl's big mouths and inability to have their fit and move on during a game will cause you to likely be on the short end of close calls. Zebras are human. They expect passion and anger on a call or two during a game. They don't expect harassment between every play. It is embarrassing to the program and self defeating. I am hoping that instead of a pity party that the staff is working to stop CUs running game and mount an offense instead of the inept performance that is what truly cost us the game in college station. No TDs=Losing. Nearly every time. I hope the fans are there cheering on the Big Red instead of whining about calls and then sitting on their a** quiet if we have some adversity. And win lose or draw, the staff and fans should credit the two teams playing for the outcome and not whine or make excuses! End of rant.
  17. That's a bush league thing to do. I swear some of our "fans" are making us look like the most paranoid bunch of goobers to come down the pike. Harrassing the official and his family is pure d BS. We should have scored 10 points and we would have won the damn game. To harass a family because our staff was totally in disarray as was our offense is asinine. Whining is for losers. The rest of the world is beginning to view our team like I do stoops. Hell, if we get beat on Friday, half of you will be blaming the refs at this game, many others will be blaming the crew with Burks as being somehow responsible though they are doing some other game. I'm also sure some of you will blame Pearlman for not allowing Bo to go Ape-sh...on the sidelines. Grow up. We did not win primarily because we sucked on O. The enemy was mostly US.
  18. "i heard" "I heard". Is bs when it comes to the tirade Bo sprung on TM complete with jabbing TMs throat repeatedly. I heard one of the guys here claim he was giving him a "pep talk". What the nation saw was a forty something coach berating an 18 year old player complete with spittle and finger pointing. It was easy to see the tirade ended with "Now get your f'n a** over on the bench.". Bo and our fans are extremely fortunate that he picked a white kid for the extended out of control rant and poking or there would be many quarters calling for his immediate dismissal rather than noting that he was way out of control. He would quite possibly have been fired if the player had been black in this current environment where the appearance of a white authority figure bullying a black teenage player would loose the hounds of political correctness and racial insensitivity like nothing else. Jesse Jackson would have been in Lincoln today and sixty minutes would have had the story featured tonight. The other problem I see Bo having is there will be a player take exception to that "hands on" approach and throw a punch. You know there are likely players now who have said, "If he ever does that to me I'll ...". While most such claims will not happen, the wrong player at the wrong moment and Bo will have a fist in his face. If so, with the history of his rage on national tv, few will blame the player and it might well cause the university to move on Bo. similarly, chasing officials off the field will not be tolerated long by UNL or the big ten. I thought after the big 12 CG last year that he would learn and tone it down. I would bet anything the president of the university has let his feelings be known through TO. Behavior like last night no matter how justified many feel it was will not be tolerated long.
  19. Who that we've played has had a penalty on the bench, not just in Bo's tenure, but in the last decade? In fact I have seen it maybe once or twice in all the fb Ive watched over many years. You have to really be a horses A to get a bench flag. It is not like BB at all. The thing is the reputation will carry over to other games and the flag will come out sooner or the officials know that they will have to put up with abuse all night. And the Taylor M exchange if you watch it on Ytube, you know that it is only a matter of time before he strikes a kid or one cleans his clock. It is beyond what I've seen for an entire game. TV coverage will focus on looking for a Bo meltdown, rather than our game.
  20. There is no way in the world that the league office tells the officials to screw our team. There is no way in the world that the big 12 crews formed a conspiracy to screw us. We are an aggressive defensive football team. Aggressive D's are going to get more calls against them than "bend don't break" soft defenses. The Pelinis do I believe impart an "us against the world, take no prosinoners" philosophy to the team. In many ways that is a good thing, but it Aldo leads to more penalties. Rather than be paranoid and whine about the double personal foul call, think!! No ref is looking at where another players Hands are in a pile unless it is on a football or slugging somebody. The kicking was obvious and very often the refs catch the retaliation which is why a smart coach instills in his players the need to not retaliate. The second will come nearly every time a player goes off on a ref. Bo was begging for a flag on the bench much of the game. Yes the roughing call was terrible. a conspiracy? I doubt it. picking up the interference flag was very questionable, but hardly evidence of a conspiracy. The truth is that we lost the game. The refs certainly didn't help. However if you cannot score more than nine points, we should blame what was obviously an inept offensive performance. We are beginning to sound like crybaby Stoops. I do think that Bo worried too much about yelling at the refs, his qb, his assistant coaches and too little time on how to best get ten points! Negativity and constant complaining about circumstances no matter how well founded usually aren't the best ways to lead. Dwelling on adversity that has occurred becomes a distraction in bo's case IMO. He's still new to being a head coach. I hope he doesn't do something incredibly stupid before he becomes a great coach.
  21. Bo was doing what he had to. His kids were looking frustrated at getting jobbed out there. His personal foul fired up this team, and if not for that blatantly bad late hit call, probably would have won this game. I don't know about the twelfth man thing, but there was more than 11 people out there, that we had to go up against. Bo is no Coach Osborne by any stretch of the imagination, but they do share one thing in common, they no how to win. You want to compare Bo to someone, Try Bob D, Frank Kush, Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant how did they do? GBR!!! They would have all been fired in this era, certainly Bryant and Kush would have and of course Hays was. It just takes one event and the university leaders will insist on an ouster in this politically correct world. Bo had better watch his step. Once any charge is made now, there will be the record of his sideline behavior. The press will not be any help either. He has to "coach smart" when facing adversity.
  22. All I am saying is that a player often is mistreated by a player on the other team or an official. But you ask that player to keep his cool and play smart. Likewise the head coach has to "coach smart". Last night we got hosed. But what the officials saw and what the nation saw was not a "coach having his player's back", but a man nearly out of control, screaming at his own players, staff and the refs. When you hit that locker room a coach can let hit go on staff and players, scream, curse, holler etc. But you don't spend an extended time cursing your injured freshman qb while poking your finger in his throat on national tv. That goes beyond redressing a player who screwed up on the way back to the sidelines. Similarly, I truly think it hurts your cause to continue screaming at officials between every play for an extended period of time. I hope I am wrong but IMO if Bo doesn't dial it back a notch, it's only a matter of time before he abuses a player or grabs and official and his coaching career at NU will be over. While fans look at wins and losses, the university administration looks at the image the conduct creates. So will the Big Ten. It will also impact parents...who in no way saw what they wanted as a parental figure for their son leaving home for the first time last night. Passion is great, but there is a line that can't be crossed and it only takes one step over that line in this era for any coach to be fired.
  23. The officiating sucked and most fans are rallying around Bo's attitude and condoning his behavior last night. I think others are beginning to see a coach that is out of control. The confrontation on camera with Martinez was particularly unfortunate. I can't see for instance Bubba Starlings parents saying "son, we want you to give up that huge baseball contract so you can go get cursed out on national TV with that guy poking you in the throat while doing it". Bo's tirades against bad calls would be more effective if they were only against bad calls, were rare and did not continue for several plays ranting to every official in earshot. Besides being ineffective, I think it will cause a lot of close calls go against us. Woody Hays got away with an abusive style and remained popular with his fan base for decades. This is a different era and unless Bo gets a grip, I fear he will join Leach and Mangino as coaches let go for behavior that wouldn't have even been mentioned in the Woody era. Passion is fine, but the HC has to be and be seen to be in control of himself and his team.
  24. Worried about this game since Texas. Worried more after the beat Texas. Worried less after ou smoked them. I was right to worry. If we get down two scores I don't think we pull it out. First possession is huge.
  25. Huskerjock, I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head, the line play will decide this game. The only change would be if Martinez gets a couple of big plays even if MU is holding him to 1 or 2 yds per play, Martinez has such explosiveness, he can turn a game around in one snap of the ball. But, that being said, if MU can control Nebraska's front four, and make Pellini take some chances with the Blitz, Missouri may be able to spring Jackson or Moe for some big plays down the field. Wow, only Wednesday, can't wait for kickoff. I'll buy that but I think it will take a more creative approach, because nothing I have seen from the Dline tells me they can pressure Gabbert or stop their running plays. If we try to drop seven or eight, they will run it with those little backs, or Gabbert will have all day to find one of five receivers. Given time I think he will find them. Too bad there wasn't a bye week because I think it would have been great to have worked on various blitzing schemes. I think Carl will have to gamble in order to stop them, unless Gabbert has an off night. I was very impressed with the way their offensive line pulled, blew ou off the line of scrimmage and were blocking the second level 7or 8 yards down field before the ou D touched the RB. If we get too light in the britches with smaller faster LBs they can chew up five to fifteen yard chunks pretty handy. That is totally different than the weak running game I counted on from M As to TM getting away for long scores a couple times, I am counting on it. What I worry about is where the other points come from. I would look for Misery to score in the thirties. We have to be balanced and not have anymore than one turnover IMO. This. Is truly a game where both our backs and recievers need to catch and hold on for an entire game.
