  1. I think that is a stretch isn't it? Here is a list. Far from one every year (with the exception or our legacy years (90's)). Abdullah being the 2nd highest RB drafted in the last 25 years. 2015: Abdullah (2nd) 2013 Burkhead (6th) 2011: Helu Jr (4th) 2007: Brandon Jackson (2nd) 2001: Buckhaulter (4th); Dan Alexander (6th) 1999: Makovicka (4th) 1998: Ahman Green (3rd) 1996: Phillips (1st) 1994: Calvin Jones (3rd) 1993: Derek Brown (4th) 1990: Ken Clark (8th) Seeing this put together is a really cool reminder of all of the great rb's we've had.
  2. 3. Too early to tell who should get the bulk of the carries if you ask me. How much we run the ball is an unknown still also.
  4. Sad news. R.I.P. Purdue football strength coach Doug Davis, 33, dies. http://www.purduesports.com/genrel/051315aaa.html

      33 years old. I agree.

Always sad to see people pass away at such a young age.

  5. He's only been a coach for 4 years. I wouldn't say that this is his only year to strike. Just saying. The West will probably be wide open next year too. I don't see any of those teams primed for serious improvement. In the short term at least. This year provides the best opportunity for them to make a statement. The two biggest threats in the division have new head coaches. All Minnesotas players were recruited by Kill. Next year I assume they lose a bit defensively, so that could hurt. Also next year Nebraska and Wisconsin should be more stable so the division will tighten up a bit. Kill is a good coach, but if Minny is ever gonna win a division crown under him, this would be the year. I disagree that if it's any year it's 'this year'. You have to give Kill some credit. He's only been there 4 years and he's a good coach and he has a good staff and the kids have totally bought into his system and they love the guy. As for them losing players Nebraska and Wisconsin will lose players next year also. That's just normal attrition for any college team. If anything Nebraska and Wisconsin both have new head coaches with a lot to prove and it's going to take more than 2 seasons for those results to fully show themselves. Furthermore for the time being both coaches will be dealing with players who their predecessors recruited so they are both teams currently in transition. The West is going to be wide open for at least the next several seasons if not longer.

  7. I mean, you'll never get any definitive proof, but after Narduzzi's whole "60 minutes of unnecessary roughness", it's hard to believe Dantonio wasn't largely responsible for what happened during that game. Link for those unfamiliar. "Narduzzi should have chosen his words better after the game, but I think he was speaking more to the defense's tough, physical approach against Michigan than any intent to go over the line."
  8. Bolded could be said for most top 40 teams. Minnesota has a strong defense and Kill already has one Big 10 Coach of the Year award under his belt. Even though a good QB can make a huge difference it takes much more than just having one good player to make a football team truly good/great.
  9. True. But the competition isn't fierce. Minnesota can't get much better than they currently are. Northwestern, Purdue and Illinois aren't that great. Iowa, on average, will be mediocre. They're a yearly 6-6 team that will hover between bad years (5-7) and 'good' years (7-5,8-4). Wisconsin and Nebraska are the only teams in the division that a team out of conference might be slightly scared of. They can't get any better? Why is that? I think Kill has done an incredible job doing a lot with very little talent to work with. I'm not sure how much of a jump they can make without an upgrade in talent. They're a well coached team with an identity. They've beat us two years in a row and can compete on any given day with some good teams. But I don't think they can make the jump to being a 10-2 type team without improving the talent they have, just my opinion. They were one game away from playing for the Big 10 championship last year. If they had a really good QB they'd have a chance to make that jump this year or the next imo but alas they don't. Their defense is strong though. To me success breeds success and Kill has done an amazing job since he's got there. We play at Minnesota this year and imo it's a tossup of who wins that one.
  10. Tim Tebow wasn't every bit as far away. His passing numbers were consistently top 5 in the country each year, about 30-40 points higher than Tommie in QBR. Tim Tebow was closer to Jameis Winston than he was to Tommie Frazier. The hell he was. Did you just look up some stats or did you actually ever watch Tebow play? Ha! We can try to spin things with statisitcs in almost any direction we want but let's get real. Tebow isn't even close to the thrower Jameis Winston is and that's coming from a big fan of Tebow. I like the guy. He's not the best passer but damn it was miraculous some of the stuff he was pulling off playing in Denver. I got a kick out of it. Urban Meyer's system has made nearly every QB to ever play in it look spectacular. That's why Urban Meyer is who he is. That's why Tim Tebow and Alex Smith did'nt do a whole lot in the NFL. Its also why Urban Meyer can win with his first, second and third string quarterbacks. Not to take away too much from the players, these guys were good college QB's, but they weren't asked to make a lot of the NFL type of throws. A lot of simple routes, short throws and good use of some very talented TE's. These guys did what they were asked to do and they did it very well. Tebow's numbers blow Tommie's out of the water because Tebow threw the damn ball 995 times and Tommie threw it 469 times in his career. Tebow's completion percentage was very good, as I said, he wasn't making NFL types of throws. Also, Nebraska was recruiting great run blockers at WR and TE. Florida was recruiting some of the better players in the country at these positions and they weren't going there to run block. Anyway Hammerhead, plus 1, you're right. I heard that theory thrown around a bit today on the radio, but Tebow being on the list proves that wasn't the reasoning. Neither was Tommie. Tebow accounted for 51 touchdowns and was the first sophomore in history to win the heisman the year he won it. He undoubtedly deserves to be on that list. If anyone doesn't it's maybe a Joe Hamilton or Kellen Moore. Both great college QB's but neither was the QB Frazier was. He (Frazier) could single-handedly put a team on his back and was 10 times the playmaker both of those guys were.
  11. It's pretty cool to see that from the Cubs finally! Kris Bryant finally getting some HR's under his belt and Addison Russell with the 12 game hitting streak. Rizzo having a fine year too. Happy birthday Yogi Berra who turns 90 today! Some famous "Yogism's" "90% of the game is half mental." "I'm going to have them start cutting my pizza in to 4 pieces because I can't eat 8". "When you come to the fork in the road, take it." "Oh that restaurant? Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded." "It's deja vu all over again." "You can observe a lot by just watching." "If you don't know where you're going, you might end up somewhere else." "Keith Richards? He must have played in Brooklyn." "He's got his whole future ahead of him." "I never said most of the things I said."
  12. I'm still baffled by Maryland and Rutgers even being members of the Big 10 to be honest. I get that it allows the conference East coast exposure but geographically it's just weird. Missouri and even Oklahoma would have made much more sense but I realize it's all about the dollar.
  13. Sounds like no real penalties for Michigan besides education for the coach. Jim Harbaugh: NCAA Cites University of Michigan for 4 Violations Under New Football Coach, Report Says edit: Nevermind. Just saw Qmany's post.

  15. The writers must be giving extra credit for what they did after college. Neither of these two did as much in college ball as Tommie. Not even close. Totally. Ironically Nebraska put Manning in the QB graveyard when they played us. That's a night he'll probably not want to remember. That list needs a re-do.
  16. HUGE get for Maryland who actually go into next year as possible national title contenders. Rasheed Sulaimon to play at Maryland
  17. Per Roger Goodell it is o.k. to beat your women, it is o.k. to cheat. Worst commissioner in all of sports. The NFL is such a joke anymore largely due to it's commissioner. He hits the team harder than the guy who actually cheated. WTF.
  18. Hawks and the Ducks in the Western conference finals. First time ever the two have met in the playoffs. They played 3 times in the regular season with the Hawks taking 2-3. Go Hawks...
  19. Also thank you refs once again who have been absolutely horrible this entire series especially in crunch time for giving the Cavs a generous 1.5 seconds somehow on their last possession. Keep on doing you.
  20. That was a pretty dirty play but unless you can prove Dantonio instructed him to do that not sure how you can blame the coach there.
