  1. Or what if the timing of our games would have been different? What if our week 3 and week 9 games had been switched around? In 2001 we didn't make it to the B12 CCG. Nonetheless, we got into the Rose Bowl with Miami because we were ranked so highly. But if our week 12 game (Colorado blowout) and week 3 game (Notre Dame win) had been switched around, we would have had an early loss and probably wouldn't have been ranked higher than 7th or 8th by the end of the year. We would not have gotten into the Rose Bowl, and would not have gotten creamed by Miami. And the blowout loss to Colorado would have been a distant memory followed by nine regular season wins. In that scenario there's almost no way Solich gets fired after the season. And as an added bonus, it would have been Colorado who got annihilated on national TV by the Hurricanes. hasn't it been proven that losing early is better than losing late?
  2. they skipped "P" - Eichorst had already taken care of that problem....
  3. Does this mean we're a 5 year old program? Where does our history fit into the discussion then? Does it even exists outside of Nebraska? I'm sure no one thinks twice about Penn State's history being included. How many years before we are in a similar boat do you think?
  4. People on bbs's whine about this, but while traveling the country, I never heard that. What I mostly heard is "I went to a game there once; it was awesome" or "do you all have anything other than football out there?" Bo didn't even rank among the craziest in CFB let alone when stacked against all coaches across all sports. I live in Kansas, where the Huskers are still relevant and a topic of conversation in relation to the Big8. I don't hear it much anymore - with the exception of this weekend at the lake - but it was extremely prevalent during his last 3-4 years....then again I hang out at a few sports bars 5-6 nights a week, so know most of the people there. Watching how your conversations play out here, it doesn't surprise me no one talks to you at a bar. Hanging out in sports bars 5-6 nights a week? Unless one is a bartender, that's pretty sad. coming from a guy that hangs out in a football forum 5-6 hours a day...

  6. Very true. As much as I've questioned some of the things he's done, I really hope that he and Eichorst did it right in hiring Riley. if nothing else I can go to a bar in a Husker shirt and not have to talk about our crazy ass coach with some random person who wants to laugh at Nebraska football...that was getting old.
  7. The final chapter of Perlman's legacy is yet to be written in regards to football.
  8. Went with the Wave Tenjin recently. I don't run - but they get me back and forth from my pickup to the barstool nicely. I like em.
  9. agree, and i think the spring semester is a little easier to begin academically in. you aren't smothered in a flood of freshman all trying to find the showers, find their flip flops, find the cafeteria, find a fake ID, find their first piece of a*@...
  10. I've noticed your posts have become more alcohol centric lately....u doing ok? We need to have a HB intervention thread for ya?
  11. Agree I don't think it would be a "huge" loss other than further depletion of an already depleted area. He's played in about 50% of the possible games he could have. And only made 4 starts. should have put the in there - sorry
  12. row 1, section 410. still looks rainy on weather.com but that's usually junk forecasts
  13. would be a huge loss for us. lot of years in this program as a 1st string (not a backup) player...
  14. The odd thing is that all we heard about from Pelini is that Tom doesn't meddle, but he was there if Pelini sought him out for advice. Pelini framed it as though Tom was completely hands-off.
  15. This - I don't like the look of next year's schedule so I don't want to put too much of an emphasis on a specific #. 2017 however...
  16. For the last couple of years I've been suggesting on here that Nebraska steps outside the box and go with a guy like Moglia as HC, paid considerably less - then hire the 2 best coordinators in the game and pay them 1.5-2 million each with some spectacular assistants and a guy almost 100% dedicated to recruiting. My thinking is that the 9 assistants, and specifically the 2 coordinators have far more of an impact on our success (or failure) than a single individual in the HC position and recruiting is a full time gig. I think this is the closest I'm going to get to that...but I feel it's a pretty good setup with recruiting and that CEO level thinking in mind. If this guy can give Mike even 5 more hours a week to recruiting I think it will translate into 1-2 more highly ranked guys a year. Based on odds, that translated to 3-4 more impact guys in the starting lineup than we had before. It's the difference between an Ameer versus a Cross, or a Denard/Akumara versus Green/Jackson.
  17. thought this would be over w/ by now. i assumed w/ the timing in relation to signing day that it was either... 1) don't want to upset any NU recruits with the news but already had a guy lined up and/or 2) out of respect for the poached program the new hire didn't want to announce prior to signing day. figured it was a done deal though. now it has me wondering what in the heck happened that led to this. doesn't seem like the result of an evaluation on his performance as a coach/recruiter - that would have been known at end of the season. if he was a crappy recruiter why not get someone in there 6 weeks ago when things were shaking up? now you're trying to convince a guy to bolt a program weeks before spring practice.
  18. who would be a "splash" hire? I thought for a moment about adding the "sarcasm" emoticon, but I told myself to have some faith in the readers. Especially the people that are on here everyday and take part in the threads about every hiring decision with the posts of "I had to google" or "need a splash hire" Oh well...I'll take my lap maybe take 2...
  19. i dn't think martinez ever really figured out the "read" part of the zone-read. there were times where the read was 100% obvious and he'd make the wrong decision. i'm pretty confident he had his mind made up pre-snap. If it were predetermined, he wouldn't be making the read. If he isn't making the read, what you are seeing was the wrong guess by the coaching staff calling the play. The coaching staff gave him the option, I just think he made the read pre-snap, after the D was lined up - not as the play progressed.

  21. Assuming 100 on campus + 25 support staff (prolly way under there)...rooming 2 to a room w/ coaches going solo.... Round Trip Charter: $40,000-$50,000 Rooms @ $225/ for 8 nights: $135,000 Feeding a bunch of fat guys: $30,000 ... North of $200k....so like 20% of our recruiting budget. Hmmm...better land some big fish w/ that.
