  1. Gotcha - don't hang out as much around here as I used to so miss most of this stuff...
  2. From the Oversigning thread: Thanks Q. Liking these numbers. I'd assume we'll see a couple more departures after spring, so missing out on Simmons and Fitz put us a little under - but good to see Riley targeting 86,87.
  3. and oklahoma, tcu, w. virginia, texas tech, oklahoma state & iowa state... (so almost dead last)
  4. DL is concerning - though I feel better about the scheme and ability to stop the run even w/ the less than ideal talent on board. If Pelini/Pap was going into this next season with our current DL roster I'd be sweatin bullets. LBers will hopefully compensate for this some.
  5. Anyone know what our scholly count is after the signings, +Lee and recent transfers? Always pissed me off when we'd go into spring at 78,79,80 guys. Is that going to continue to be the case w/ Riley or has he managed to fill the roster?
  6. Why do you have 5,665 posts? If you are a Husker fan, trying to write Husker-based articles for a national publication, I see no reason not to share them on a Husker-based fan board. Well, except for the inevitable abuse. Brandon is promoting himself. It's what you're supposed to do if you have a lick of ambition. #7 - No Spamming HuskerBoard is not to be used as a marketing tool for your websites or products. (would assume he'd fall pretty clearly within the above)
  7. If Fant ends up N, he'll be playing for someone else (IWCC) by 2018 season anyway. Like to see Allen pull the trigger for N over Fant any day....
  8. Yet somehow after all these "issues" you point out with Pelini.......he managed to win 70% of his games while Riley remains a .500 coach. I realize it's the "in thing" to bash Pelini, but it would help the cause if Riley would start winning. He won the games he was supposed to win (Riley certainly didn't I'll give you that), but he often got blown out in the others. 14' versus 15' isn't a slam dunk game, which is why I'd take the 15' team. Almost every evenly matched game was a loss for Pelini. At least Riley has been able to step up and win some games against quality opponents.
  9. Limited to <= 1, because as QMany said - Pelini is going to defend the pass and dare Langsford to run...and I think he runs 75/25 split so TA's attempts (opportunities for mistakes) are greatly reduced. 15' wins if Pelini drops 6-7, and rushes only 4 w/ his "contain" DL scheme - which you know is how he would play it. This is the thing with Pelini's D that bothered me, it was easily exploited because it was defended in such a lopsided way to one component of the game. It became glaringly obvious when the BTN did the interview w/ the Minnesota DC (IIRC), I think before our game, and he essentially spelled out how he was going to beat us with motioning a man out of the backfield then run up the middle and use short crossing routes across the middle all game. Sure enough, it was there all day. Plus, lets not forget the jet sweep...a huge component of Riley's offense and essentially a guaranteed 10 yards against Pelini's D.
  10. It wouldn't surprise me if early on the staff was trying to assert themselves to gain that respect. If they tolerated things like this early it could spiral out of control as the season went on - especially w/ the lossses, and put the coaches in some pretty crappy situations, disciplining kids that hadn't fully bought in yet. Once they had it later on in the season they were able to relax a little more I think.
  11. They were pathetic early on in the year. Those first 4 games were unlike anything I've seen before. I've never watched DBs play the ball the way they were. I'm still scratching my head over that start. After that though, they settled in and looked promising. UCLA is a decent passing team. Unfortunately they had the 2 big plays early - but without those we hold them to under 200 yards passing. Iowa to 97 (weather factored) is pretty solid. The last 9 games, yards per attempt averaged high 6's which is middle of the pack. We return the core of our secondary, and have some promising freshman that will be in year 2 of the system. I think we see a #40-50 pass defense next year. It will never be Pelini level, but that's because we're set up to stop the run w/ an extra guy in the box, more blitzes, etc. I'd take that in this league over only rushing 4 all game to shut down their passing game. That D was set up for the B12, this D is more geared toward the B1G IMO. #8 ranked rush defense is where we need to be. Banker flipped the script in a good way I think.
  12. The entire Pac 12 (and any program with a decent passing attack) disagrees. Our pass D wasn't exactly stellar in Bo's first year either. He seemed to manage a turnaround there in year 2.
  13. I have a list of women that I plan on contacting "just in case" my wife leaves me. It includes Kate Upton, Scarlett, Kaley Cuoco, Zoe Saldana, Mila, Nykee Heaton, anna kendrick, bar, India de Beaufort, Jessica Alba, etc....you get the idea. I'd think they'd be on most mens' lists.
  14. I don't think too many guys at 18-22 are going to be a version of 38 year old Peyton Manning camping out in the pocket. Even Blaine Gabbert was mobile. They're 18-20 years old, they aren't statues. They can all scramble, and it's a lot easier to do so when the D has to respect your arm. Blaine Gabbert mobile? Sorta I guess, in the same way a Mack truck is mobile....heh Blaine Gabbert: 4.62 Cam Newton: 4.59
  16. Honestly, why can't we have a strong power run game AND a lethal air attack? Having a pure pocket passer under center does not negate the possibility of a power run game. Limited reps in a week. Mainly. And what is the obsession with wanting a "pure pocket passer"??? That's the most easily defended QB in college football. I just don't get why people ignore what experts (and offenses) continue to advocate? Nick Saban (Coker) and Dantonio (Cook) probably disagree that a pure pocket passer is easy to defend. 50% of the playoff teams, and probably 50% of the top 25 have pocket passers under center. And in this league, I'd say it might even be more of an advantage. Iowa didn't exactly do too bad w/ their QB averaging 17 rush yards a game. Passer or rusher, efficiency and game management is going to be the key. Especially when you look at the talent we have at WR, RB and TE. If we had someone that did a better job of distributing the ball to our other 10 playmakers instead of putting our season on the shoulders of 1 guy under center each year I'd say we're a lot better off.
  17. Crazy how you can go from having a pathetic rush defense and a dominant pass defense to the complete opposite of both in a single year with essentially the same personnel. Anyone that still thinks Pelini's issues with run defense were anything but scheme is out of their minds. That was never going to work in this league. Jury is still out on Banker's pass defense, but at least we aren't getting driven into the ground for 7 yards a carry anymore.
  18. He's been saying that sh!t all year. I'm encouraged he actually backed it up on the field for once... Same game plan against Purdue/Iowa and we've got 2 more wins.
  19. Lot of talk about pot...nothing about this statement? "Did I know folks that were abusing it? Yeah, on different ends of the spectrum. I think you know what I mean, smoking and other performance-enhancing drugs," Gregory said. "Sometimes guys get lucky. The Big Ten comes in, we're testing steroids, might be a guy on steroids but he may say, `You know what, I don't think I'll be one of the 12 guys that they're testing out of the 100-and-how-many guys we have on the team.' And they'll get lucky and not get tested. It's kind of hit or miss, I think." Steroids on the team? I'm not naive enough to think that they aren't being used - but wasn't that the narrative for years? "At least Bo runs a clean program and isn't cheating - our guys aren't getting paid, our recruiting is clean, no steroids, all the high GPA's are legit, yada, yada?" I think Nebraska needs to accept the fact that we aren't above the rest of the nation when it comes to college athletics and start to play the game at the same level as some of the others when it comes to these "built-in advantages". It's already going on, might as well be winning too.
  20. Iowa is in the Rose Bowl with 12 wins because their defense gave up a 22 play 4th quarter drive to Michigan State.
  21. for the most part Cally always had a manageable QB which is is the difference between the 2009 and 2010 teams winning 10 versus 12 IMO. At the end of the day it isn't going to matter much if we can't get a guy under center that makes better decisions. TM was a good QB but he wasn't a 12 win QB. He was going to lose use a couple, he wasn't going to be able to stand up to the demands winning a championship took, to really beat the top 10 teams. Iowa isn't that different of a team from Nebraska, we all saw that at the end of the season when we took em to the wire and should have kicked their a$$ - but they are in the rose bowl with 12 wins because of what they had under center. Tommy is a better athlete any day of the week - but Beathard is a better QB by a mile.
  22. Recruiting is a numbers game. Sure, half of them didn't pan out (that's normal) - but that means with this class we still got 16 solid contributors, 6-7 were great. Bo's classes of 17-19 and consistently undersigning meant if he hit 50% of his targets (which he didn't) we still only got 8-9 contributors. Bo's classes usually included about a 40% transfer rate, a 30% hit rate, and a 30% miss rate - leaving us with 6-7 guys contributing. Look at that 2011 class we all thought was so great at the time. Out of the 11 4* recruits that made that class promising, 5 transferred, 1 never showed, 2 never managed to really contribute. On down that list you've got Pirman, Carter, Davie, Price, Allen and Bondi that never really got into the starting rotation. That leaves what, 6 out of 20 that held their own...out of what was supposed to be the anchor class for Pelini. This class is the standard of the era. Stars correlate to potential, anyone that argues against that is being ridiculous. But ultimately it's about the numbers. You have to sign to the limit, we can't have 7 walk-ons earning scholly's in a given year.
  23. Iowa in the 1st half was miles ahead of Nebraska. Drew Ott going down changed things for them. I'd say by the last couple of games, while we were improving and they were declining - things ended up evening out. But Iowa's D was pretty solid the first half of the season - better than where we ended up. That won't help them much going into this weekend though.
  24. the Purdue game - where 20% of our turnovers occurred... the thing with Tommy's INTs this season is almost every one of them was preventable. It wasn't a tipped pass, or a spectacular play by a defender - it was a LBer standing in the middle w/ his thumb up his ass getting a packaged gift from TA - or a heave and a prayer into triple coverage. I don't remember that being as prevalent last year. I'd think it would be something that could be easily addressed. I'm surprised it was still happening the last week of the season, in 30 degree weather on a windy day. 4 INT's in those conditions is inexcusable and largely on the staff. those are pound the rock, take your points and don't give the game away conditions. You aren't putting up 60, you're lucky to get to 20. Don't put the team in a position to have to overcome a bunch of points offensively.
  25. We need to flip those numbers. Averaging 2 turnovers a game is bad for any offense. Agree, but only 1 for any defense is far worse. You'd have to think a normal team would choke up 1 just on their own based on averages, which means we are rarely, if ever forcing turnovers. I can't think of a forced fumble this year - maybe Minny? And it's pretty damn hard to make an INT when the back of your head is to the ball.
