If they USE/Do anything at all that hurts they environment, anything at all, then they are liars and hypocrites.  And their thoughts and actions do not matter.

So... We should have never listened to our teachers in the first place then?

The only person finding rage is you, and it's because I don't hold the same position or outlook as you do. This is what I believe. I am in the center.

    princess-bride-you-keep-using-that-word.

Of course you should believe all 3 of those things, as I do, but if you really don't think we understand the causes, impacts, and methods to reduce climate change then you don't really believe the bottom circle.

Look eco terrorist and wacko protestors are a bunch of idiots, but that doesn't mean the foundation of what they are saying is wrong.

Did you guys know that the sun is going to run out of energy in like 5 billion years… I’m not leaving my house today

It's ok it will still be warm, and it will consume the earth in about 7 billion years so it will be pretty toasty for us.

    Environmental change is real. Yes.

It may or may not be a problem for humanity, we truly do not know.

Why doesn't the free market mitigate the problem? Do you have sources for that? And, if human consumption is the driving factor, what is anyone doing about China, India and Russia...whose negative output dwarfs the US and Eu?

No, I don't believe that "usage" or "consumption" taxes or fair or realistic. Tell that to the climate warriors that jet set around the globe to tell me that my 2008 F150 is the major contributing factor. gtfoh

Nope, not a smoker. My dad is/was and still says he should have a seat in Devaney in perpetuity cause "smoker's taxes" paid for it.

As to the rest, we learned as we go...and some things are definitive and some are supposition.

Seriously? We know it will be a problem... This isn't debatable.

Again, seriously? What sources do you need to understand that the free market doesn't care about the environment? Did you not follow my logic with all the banned things I listed? The electric car has been around for almost 200 years and predates the ICE car by 30 to 40 years. We've known the effects and sources of green house gases for well over 100 years. Hybrids vehicles have been viable for over 20 years. Tesla began mass producing the model S almost 12 years ago. And only now (after heavy international government regulations) are traditional car manufacturers going full bore into electrification and alternative fuels... Free market don't care.

Would it shock you to know that China has the highest fleet of personal and commercial electric vehicles of any country in the world? Or that they are now considered the leader in EV vehicle manufacturing, and Western OEMs are terrified of competing with them on price alone?

I continue to be amazed at your ability to find rage anywhere you want. You're F150 is not THE problem, and neither is that jet plane. We, as a society, are collectively the problem to our own future. A story as old as time.

This is a good point.  I remember those older radio ads that would use this

    stuff.

So in the AI stuff, they might show like the "hands" of JB and he will be like "Folks, listen to me..." and it will go from there...

It already happens on YouTube ads which show full faces of people like Dr. Phil and Joe Rogan. "The government is lying to you. They dont want you to know this, but..." It's super creepy...

    Lol...

Yeah, because all those chicken littles totally go by scientific method :laughpound

Climate change is real, yes? And we agree that it we'll be a problem or humanity long term, right? Clearly the free market doesn't work to mitigate the issue, so the next logical step would be legislation and consumption tax, no?

Are you a smoker? Do you have a problem with tobacco taxes? Do you think we should still be using asbestos, lead paint, CFLs, leaded gasoline, remove catalytic converters from cars, allow companies to leach toxins into the water like hexavalent chromium, maybe it's ok if your near by feed lot drains their s#!t pond into the local tributaries?

There’s a big difference between what comedians have done up till now and what AI is capable of.

Is there though? If I can hire a voice actor who sounds exactly like the person I want them to emulate how is that any different than AI? It's a very murky thing that is trying to be policed.

This is very good, and common sense. The problem are the "envirobros" chicken littles (as @teachercd says) that scream for higher taxes and forced conformity but really have no idea what will work to mitigate the issue.

Yes, because the scientific method doesn't exist

It’s a first amendment right to create a fake video of someone saying something without their consent?

That seems pretty straightforward to me.

The difficulty is in who all is included. Does it include people who distribute it?  I think that’s simple, prove they knew it was fake.

Yes. Comedians have impersonated politicians forever. There have been voice fakes since audio has been recorded. You can't really police that.

Good, that's the correct response all around. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the government is going to eat most of the bill (which is kind of why we pay taxes, to help with catastrophic events). The companies involved are going to shelter their cash immediately because the cost of building the bridge, laws suites for deaths and for the port closing are probably going to bankrupt them.

  11. So, they supposedly found the terrorist, beat the s#!t out of them till one's eye popped out and he's in a coma, hooked up a car battery to another's balls, and cut another's ear off and fed it to him (on video).

Love that this is pretty much the coldest it has ever been in March (almost April) and the Enviro-bros are all of a sudden GONE!

    Shocker.

    Dorks

If it was 80 and sunny right now...they would all have the BIGGEST erection!  GLOBAL WARMING!

That's now how climate works. Maybe don't go teaching science or statistics.

I see the Russian disinformation bros are out in full force with the narrative that IS is a CIA backed organization and that they carried out the terrorist act in Moscow on behalf of Ukraine and the US.  Like this guy.

Hey David, the US already did what you said they should do 2 hours before you said they should do it.

They are also announced on Fridays to minimize the news cycle and stock market reaction. The recall was enough to make CNN Top Stories, so linking the two stories on this particular Friday didn't seem like a stretch. Layoffs likely a separate story.

Meh, they don't really play around with the recalls anymore after Takata and the GM key scandal. It's a months long process to determine if it's necessary to issue one, and the government is involved. It's usually just happenstance on the final timing that's announced.

Worth noting that's not a company-wide notice, it's just from the North America Engineering & Technology division. Which makes you wonder if it's related to this piece of Friday breaking news:

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/22/business/stellantis-recalling-285000-sedans-side-airbags/index.html

It's not. Recalls happen all the time. I think everybody has had a recall for half a million vehicles in the last 6 months.

No, but thought this was unusual given the previous discussion on the EV roll out that didn't include Tesla.

Also, they have laid off several thousand, or offered early buyouts over the past year.

    https://www.motor1.com/news/708736/stellantis-employees-profit-share/

As has GM. The bigger issue your missing is why does a company who has been making record profits for years, just gave their CEO a huge raise, and is participating in stock BuyBacks and dividends need to lay people off? Also, those jobs won't be coming back. They're being outsourced to India just like the tech industry.

Rumor is there's more to come. They capped it at 400 this time because 500 or more and they have to report it to the state of Michigan before they start the layoffs.
