2023 Season Final Grade Your Expectation vs Reality
PasstheDamnBallGuy replied to TGHusker's topic in Husker Football
I think it still needs a lot of work obviously but the RBs closed out the season without having one for a long time right? -
That was quite a jump from what I asked. So you have no one? Yeah it is crazy northwestern made one and we beat them.
-
Who should they have picked up?

JUCO WR Tre Richardson [Toledo - Signed LOI]

Granted we havent see much of him to know but Rhule seemed high on Nation this week. -

Who do we have that could replace his production? -

Yeah Fidone bailed out HH at least a few times on wild passes. He had a few drops but we also had a QB that could somehow overthrow his athletic 6'6" TE. He looks like a baby giraffe out there at times so I would be willing to bet he is only starting to get into his potential. -

What is interesting on the special teams is it seems we get closer and closer to getting game changing punt blocks every week. We even had the very possible game winning block set up this week and the player just didn't lay out for it. The return game is terrible though. As bad as it has ever been. -

Rhule wanted Caleb Williams I'm sure. He chose who he could get after being out of the CFB game for 3 years. Portal QBs are being recruited at the beginning of the season. The likelihood of finding a good one with no ties coming in as late as Rhule did are basically nil. Frost had already recruited Martinez so he had a leg up and Martinez was shaky on Tennessee. -
Maybe Stanley Morgan

****Wisconsin Game Day Thread****

Maryland drove down and kicked a FG. It would not have won the game. It's literally what happened. In fact Maryland was close enough to easily try for a TD so a FG had a not small chance of not even forcing OT last week. -

The point of the playcall is running last week is basically conceding for the FG and this week they gave themselves chances at a TD but ran the clock all the way down to give Wisconsin no chance after they have moved down the field easily the last few drives. Last week they made a FG. It would not have won the game. I'm not sure why that's so hard for people to understand. -

People were pissed when we didn't go for a chance at OT last week and tried to go for the win and then pissed this week when we killed the whole clock and sent it to overtime being conservative. Sounds a lot like just being upset about the result and then working backwards from there to decide what you "would have" done -
Nebraska- 16 Wisconsin- 9 Rush- 211 Pass- 145

I want to comment on this because I see a lot of people at least allude to this sentiment. Rhule has set up a good defense everywhere he has been. Every single time he has had underrated players come in and contribute early. White is an amazing coach, but there is a reason Rhule always had a good DC and why Tony White chose Nebraska.

Do you disagree with the pass plays that got us into that position? If we got picked on those it would have pretty much been an automatic loss. -

Sure you can argue the pressure it puts to be up and that could have helped, but getting into FG range was not an issue for them. The point about them moving the ball up to the 30 is that's all they needed for a FG. They could have kicked probably 3 more FGs in that game. I'm not saying a FG is bad but I don't think it is a win like everyone is acting like it is. A TD in that scenario puts way more pressure on them and our defense kept them out of the end zone well all game. It's the risk vs the outcome. A TD there I think gives us our best shot out of any scenario at a win. You play for the win. -

The issue is, a FG at best would have took this game to OT. Do you like our chances in OT vs Maryland? Their offense had very little problem moving the ball up to about the 30 yard line all game and they had the wind. The likelihood of a FG outright winning that game to me is almost nil. -

Maryland drove down the the red zone and ran the clock out. Y'all really are acting like they would not have had a really good chance at a TD there. I have 0 problem with calling a pass on that play. It's funny how there is no credit for calling a drive that took us to the 5 yard line with a 3rd string QB, HB, and backups all over the oline. Get a good QB on this team and these are blowout wins with nothing else changing. -
It seems like to me he just has a bit of decision paralyzes at times just in general. He has so few starts that you would think he will improve, but every QB has a ceiling on that and its hard to know where it is. Some of it also could be that there just aren't lanes on his option plays and WRs just aren't open, but he def seems to take a while to just pull the trigger or run sometimes. I think a lot about that like PA boot or whatever it was where he got demolished by 4 or when he runs the option he just seems to almost stop at the point of decision. Taylor did seem similar to me in that he just took a little while to make a decision some times but he had the benefit of having upper end of elite level acceleration and speed. Haarberg has some top end but his acceleration is not great.
-
I guess it depends what level you think we need. Obviously someone like Nix, Penix, Williams, Gabriel would be something special but we could get someone playing as well as Dart, Rattler, Daniels, Ward, Hartman, de Laura and be a really good football team.
-
Adding to this, I think getting the good portal QBs in a lot cases is from years of contact before they are in the portal. I am willing to bet they are already contacting QBs this year whereas last year they had very limited time combined with Rhule being in the NFL for a few years.
-
Dang that really got to you, huh? He was in for 4 snaps. Just so you know, "too" is an indicator of excessive quantities while "to" is more of a directional preposition or adverb. Take a deep breath before quoting someone multiple times. No need to blow a gasket over which bad QB is worse.

Harberg fumbled twice and had 1.2 ypc. This is not the flex you think it is

Couldn't possibly be the case. Did you see how upset Saban was when A&M got a better class than them through NIL? They dont play those kinds of games
