  1. RATINGS FROM BEST TO WORST IN EACH CATEGORY

    Upside- 1.T mart, 2.Green, 3.Lee

Accuracy- 1.lee, 2.Green and tmart tie.

arm strength- 1.Green, 2.tmart and lee tie

    speed- 1.t mart, 2.green, 3.lee

    experience- 1.lee, 2.green, 3.martinez

Based on these categories you have to start Green. He is the only QB that isn't ranked last in any of the categories.

Are there any important categories that i'm missing that would be important?

Should the criterion be add up all the values and let the lowest value decide who starts. You're using an ordinal scale (ranked, but the difference between 1 and 2 isn't twice as much) so it would be silly to say the person who has no last place finishes should clearly be started.

That being said the scores were

    Lee-11

    Green-9

    Tmart-9

So by your system, either Tmart or Green should start. Sorry for being a smart(synonym for a donkey here) but seems kinda arbitrary in a lot ways, but good start to a discussion.

  2. I know that no one identified any Husker friendly bars in the area, but I figured I'd check if there was any specific bars in the Kalamazoo area that people gathered at. There's a large contingency of Husker fans in the WMU psychology grad program and I figured it would be fun to find a common gathering place for next season.

Figured I'd stay on topic here. Been chatting a bit with folks about regularly going to http://bigdealssportsbar.com/default.aspx on Drake in Kalamazoo for Huskergames. Would be nice to have a spot with other Husker fans.

  3. The only offensive stats that matter from 09, IMO, are these:

    Rushing Offense: 62nd

    Passing Offense: 101st

    Total Offense: 99th

    Scoring Offense: 75th

    Passing Efficiency: 79th

If you combined the OP's stats with these stats, you could almost say we stand a 100% chance of returning a less than mediocre offense.

I think the idea behind what the OP was saying is that the lack of experience was the cause of those stats. Now that there's some game experience, we should see drastic improvement. You're arguing that the players don't improve essentially.

  4. I love the momentum this class is building, and the signings are coming at the right positions right now. Here's to hoping this turns into one of those signature classes that can win a championship.

  5. if you think we can take about 25% of our classes from our instate and be good...your crazy, we need Texas badly. College football recruiting was a lot different back then than it is now and so are the teams.

If we stopped recruiting Texas tomorrow does that mean that we couldn't sign 25 players this year? Only 18-19 then? I assure you we'd fill the additional 6 spots that will probably go to Texas players without a problem. They'd come from FL, CA, MO, KS, OK, CO, WA, OH, IL, NE or some other state we've pulled kids out of recently. Texas is a great spot to recruit, and I won't argue with you that it's marginally important to us today...but it's not a vital lifeline that would cause the NU football program to implode if lost. We don't "need" Texas recruiting. If you think we do you're crazy, because there are 1,500+ kids outside of Texas that will be ranked 3* and above this year by Rivals. Finding 25 that want to play for Nebraska, not a problem.

I bet Texas could stop recruiting Texas players and still sign a top 25 team from CA, FL, AL, LA, GA. Texas recruits are convenient for all involved, but certainly not required to field a team on Saturday.

I can't believe we are still discussing if Texas recruiting is important. Why is this such a hot issue? Bo and Company have great ties to the state, so why should we stop? If you aren't suggesting we stop, why do you keep bringing this up?

Have you ever thought about money and time? We already concentrate a ton of time in Texas, Cali, and Florida. Yes, we could go on without these states but that means more travel for the coaches to places they don't have established relationships....which means more time to make the relationship better. Those states also have the highest concentration of high quality talent....why go there? Waste of time right?

Bill Callahan chose not to recruit Texas and that did wonders for our program. We don't "need" Texas to make 25 kids but why would we ever stop. This hypothetical discussion is so stupid.

Could be wrong but I think the discussion isn't about stopping recruiting in the state. The discussion is about the difficulties that will come up because we no longer will be having a yearly game in Texas (or against a Texas team). That's the reason that the OP refers to both pre Big 12 and post Big 12 formation. We won't stop recruiting there, it'll just be harder to land recruits. The argument then becomes if we step out of the Big 12 what are the potential recruiting ramifications.

You are right. There have just been a couple threads and a couple other threads taken over by this discussion over the last week or two. kc has just continuously said that Texas recruiting isn't important which is just silly. If we go to the Big10, recruiting doesn't change at all IMO (i've said this in multiple threads already). the strength of this staff is Texas...they will always recruit Texas until Tim Beck leaves or the Pelinis leave.

I completely agree, though I think if anything it even bolsters our recruiting in the future due to exposure. It's completely ridiculous to say that Texas isn't important in recruiting. Too much top talent in too small of an area for it not to be. I also think the argument of not going to Texas every year is a weak one. It's a huge state, getting a kid from SA and then playing the champ game in Dallas doesn't make it any easier for parents to get there.

IMO what it comes down to is top flight programs can get their players from anywhere, kids that want to play football and want to be part of the school, the tradition and the legacy they'll come no matter what. If a player values being close to family in warm weather that's their prerogative; we probably wouldn't want them on the team if their mind isn't going to be on football when it's below 40.

  7. I don't know. I would miss all these Big 12 teams. I like the Big 12 style of play much better than the Big 10. We'd be going from a power conference to one that, frankly, kinda sucks, and gets no respect. And we'd lose the Texas base for recruiting. I really hope this is not true.

My thoughts exactly. If we leave for the Big Ten, I think that could severly impact our Texas recruiting pipeline. The closest away games for NU would be Columbia and Iowa City, which is a long distance to travel. Furthermore, has anyone ever made the drive to Columbus (OH) from Nebraska? It. Sucks. Im just really apprehensive about this transition to the Big Ten and wish their could be a way to stay Big XII because of the proximity to our recruiting fields and also the respect associated with our conference in comparison to the Big Ten. However, it is better to be a part of a less respected conference than to be a team without a conference.

I think the problem is we're looking at this from a purely football perspective. The real issue is money, and the money is better if we switch to the big 10. Do I necessarily want that? Not entirely. Fact of the matter is that Uni's are looking out for themselves, they don't really care about the traditions we've had since the big 12 started. Additionally as many people have pointed out, TO was able to recruit Texas even when the SWC was around.

Simply put, we gain $ (even factoring in travel costs) by joining the Big 10 and there's probably not a huge concern over recruiting.

  8. From what I've read they'd have a 15 team conference at the moment if all 4 offers were accepted...are they going to have a contingent reaction based off of if ND accepts or not?

  9. Considering the timeline of events and the people who have talked to him, I would not at all be surprised to see Jalen commit.

But the problem is the more high profile you get, the more you worry about decommits later on down the road. Guys who pull the trigger in a flash also un-pull the trigger. Not that I have any reason to think Jalen would be more likely to do that than anyone else––aside from his one decommitment already––but it's April of 2010. A lot can change between now and next February.

While I think it's probably a good idea to keep that concern in mind. Bo's worked really hard at waiting to accept commits until players are sure. Yeah it's probably going to happen now and then, but I think it's going to be minimized given our tactics. Plus I think JG's sold. GBR
