How much faster did you get info there? These guys we have here do an excellent job I think

@man eating mastodonYou get it pretty fast, and then you learn who gets it first. Tea leaf info for sure, and Munson was the first to swing the Mathis pendulum towards Nebraska recently. Then 247 came in a day later.

  2. Omar Manning hurt is foot in practice and has been seen wearing a boot.

All that matters is if there is a try-hard walkon that will block for the RB's who can't break long runs because the OL can't get a push.

Is there any chance this is just crafty coaching by Frost?

  3. It's not the players. This is a good roster with a ton of ability and intangibles.

      BigRedBuster

Yes, but when the scheme gets WRs wide open and your QB either can't make the throw or refuses to get rid of the ball to them and takes a sack/fumble instead, that's a major problem with the QB.

Martinez isn't perfect, but he leaves it out on the field. Frost needs to give up on the offense or playcalling.

Ever think someone may have been in a coma for 2 years and is trying to catch up?

  6. I am so proud to be a Nebraska fan. Nebraska always stuck it’s neck out to be different. They always strived to get in front and be innovative. I’m proud of our coaches, players, and administration for taking their stance and to do it so boldly. Go Big Red.

  7. Nothing has been confirmed but based on what I've gathered from coaches and recruiting people I know, OV's aren't happening for the 2021 class. I would say take it to the bank.

  9. I had this thought the other day in terms of recruiting. I can see somewhere in the future where universities will set up recruiting offices in different states. I haven't looked into the rules, but I can certainly see it happening. I think about how crazy it would be to see a building with a big red N on it here in LA.

With marketing and advertising agencies getting involved, the next move has to be expansion.

Sorry mods, I put this in another thread but I felt this was a better place.

    1. Toe

      Toe

Interesting thought, at least. But I don't know about full-time employees with their own offices. If there's anything remote to be done, though, I think it would be more like third-party scouting firms. Pay someone who already lives in LA a commission to comb through hours of video and visit various HS teams in the area and give their picks to various client coaches based on what the coaches are looking for. But who knows...

    2. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

Probably right. And I see a time somewhere in the future where I won’t give two rips about college football because it has become too much like the NFL and no longer resembles the sport I grew up loving. The transfer portal and the lack of player commitment to anything except me me me is a pretty good start down that road.

  10. Based on tweets from current commits, there might be a big commit on its way...

  11. all of these offers are driving me insane.

I know it's the lifeblood of the program and it's important to have the emphasis on recruiting, but I tend to not follow recruiting until late in the process for 2 reasons.

      1.  Tracking every comment of a 17-18 year old kid seems a bit odd to me.

      2.  The way recruiting is followed so closely, fans are able to get a lot of info on incoming players, but I also think it creates unrealistic expectations for kids to produce right away and get labeled as "busts" too soon in the process.

Good coaches know how to build a culture/system, ID & recruit the right talent to make the system work and ultimately succeed with that system.

They also know how to adapt their system to fit the talent they currently have available and still succeed.

Frost has shown he can do the former. He's got a lot to prove regarding the latter.

    4. NoLongerN

      NoLongerN

Sadly, the phrase by Coach Frost, "We all know where this is going", isn't going to hold any weight going forward.  Time to "put up or shut up."  I'm with @Vince R. feelings.  Unfortunately, there is no momentum at all.  We should all probably be grateful we hold on to the 4 star commits we have.  Outside of landing Manning and Johnson, there really isn't a potential recruit that I salivate in bringing into the program ... my spirit says, "meow" to most.  I guess that is what it should feel like after 5-7.  Can't imagine how those of you feel who thought we would be better than 7-5.  You have to feel really sick to your stomach.

Getting walk on commits doesn’t  preclude getting scholarship players. Just be glad they want to come to NU vs taking a scholarship at a D2.

Both sides busted at critical moments. The defense just had some of the worst. 96 yards and 82 yards. Ouch!

  17. There is something going on in that state, in that city, and within those walls that simply keeps this program from having balls, and the ability to play under pressure. They are literally playing better when the game is over because they are puss cakes, and cannot play loose. I question the campus environment and what life is like for these players. These issues supersede staffs and rosters. What is happening on that campus that breeds the same mentality; that translates to the exact kind of play on game day?

I think we all need to chill out and let Frost do his thing. Really think you are going too deep here. The roster may be turned over but does that translate to wins right away? Not many squads win alot of games with this little help from upperclassman. Attrition has decimated our upperclassmen.

    3. Vince R.

      Vince R.

@NebfanaticI don't think it has anything to do with the staff. I don't think I am going too deep because I am bringing up a program theme over the last 20 years. There is a difference between talent and will to play. Nebraska should never have a showing like that. The game plans are fine. The schemes are actually good. These players are rewired in a negative way once they move in. The competitive nature, and will to fight is stripped. This program has zero aggression, and has become a counter punch team. Hence why Nebraska is known to playing down to their opponents, or gets shell shocked when WI, tOSU, or Iowa punches first, and the game is over by the second quarter. There is something that is fundamentally broken on that campus, and it has zero to do with S&C, recruiting rankings, scheme, 3-4, spread, Frost, Riley, or Pelini.

    4. Nebfanatic

      Nebfanatic

If what you are saying is true then Frost has no hope. Again, I think you are over thinking it. Once Frost gets guys who were winners in HS in here and has a culture top to bottom he wants things will change around here.

  18. This roster is jaded. Not enough alpha talents and guys who like to punch first. This is the Nebraska program and something Frost has to overcome in those walls.

  19. If Nebraska can lead the nation in early enrollees somehow, I think they can bridge the gap a little bit. Accelerated development may be a tiny advantage that they can capitalize on.

  20. I think this is great news.

  21. "Benefits from an offense that is predicated on simplified reads. Offense able to create wide-open receivers after busted coverages at times. Needs to improve resetting feet when maneuvering pocket to improve accuracy and power. Tends to "see" pass rush too often. Will drop eyes and look to escape pocket rather than stepping to available pocket space. Frequent trips outside pocket increase opportunity for injury. Pocket feel is very average. Stepped into sacks he had no business taking. Didn't have to throw to tight windows often. Average processor on field. Still learning when to get rid of the ball and move to next play. Slow to make anticipatory throws and can improve patience in allowing combo routes to mature rather than rushing the read. Missed obvious pre-snap blitzes. Drive accuracy needs work. When cutting it loose, ball tends to sail on him a bit. Arm strength is adequate but inconsistent to field side. Needs to bring hips through throws to increase zip into tight windows in NFL. Fumbled 27 times during his career." This is the "Weakness" aspect of Marcus Mariota's Draft Profile.

6 one half dozen the other. We are lacking talent up front. Maybe the coaching needs some refining as well, but we need to croot the OL hard this year!

I think the o-line talent is already starting to take shape. Look at what they brought in last year. Those are some big big boys.

      GBR!!!

  23. I have been watching a ton of tape over the last few months. I think calling Nebraska's D horrible or abysmal is a gross overstatement, and it doesn't really explain why we lost 8 games. Despite not having a true nose, good safeties, and starting the best catch tackler/ most underwhelming 4 year starter in Nebraska history (D.Young); they didn't get a ton of help from the Offense when it mattered. Our Offense was so boom or bust, but mostly bust. There are so many quarters where the Offense did not put up points. If Nebraska is able to just eliminate scoreless halves and quarters, it changes everything. Let alone a decent jump on D would make Nebraska more than formidable. They could contend for the conference rather easily.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the D was good by any stretch, but I see plenty of moments where they held their own, and Nebraska's O let them down. You can see it all over the Wisconsin game.

    3. Mavric

      Mavric

Pretty much agree @Vince R..  I would say the other thing to keep in mind was there was not only decent improvement as the season went along but we made significant improvements from the prior year.  Granted, it was going from horrendous to kind of bad but that's significant progress in the right direction.  If we make another decent jump like that we'll be in pretty good shape for this year.

    4. Danimal

      Danimal

Big thing is improving on 3rd-downs, so many times we had two good plays then blew it on 3rd-and long. Being able to field a bigger/stronger  legit 3-4 d-line that can rotate should help a lot. Should be able to rotate at LB more too. Pro day showed how slow our safeties were, losing experience but gaining athleticism.  Corner developed considerably over the course of last season. Not expecting big things but we should give up one less score a game and force some turnovers.

  24. What if I told you that Nebraska's game against tOSU last year had the makings of a convincing win (17-24 pts) favoring the Big Red. I really hope the self inflicting play is behind this program. It would make all the difference.

@Vince R. you can’t selectively say that NU “forced” Ohio State into mistakes, while NU’s mistakes were self-inflicted. It can’t go both ways. Jackson’s INT of Haskins was more of a combination terrible read and terrible throw by Haskins.

Yes, looking back at the game, NU had chances to win the game. But to say that NU controlled the game and our mistakes were the sole reason we lost is not genuine. Ohio State led for way more time during the game, and had a good chunk of that time leading by 2 scores. That is controlling the game. NU took advantage of Ohio State mistakes to lead at 2 times during the game, but the lead was never more than 1 score, and it was less than 25% of the games.

Ohio State didn’t seem very interested in playing a 2-win team, and their lack of effort and crispness showed that. Give NU a ton of credit for making it a close game and having an opportunity to win. But to say that NU “should have won” is not a correct statement.

    3. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

Sorry about the multiple posts of the same thing. Yes, NU had an opportunity to beat Ohio State, just like they had an opportunity to win by 17-21 points. Both teams made mistakes and left points on the field. In the end, I think the better team still won, but it was great to see NU hang in and play them down to the wire, with an opportunity to win.

    4. Vince R.

      Vince R.

@ColoradoHuskIt's all good. I figured a new comment would come in. I think tOSU was the better team. Still, the opportunity is frustrating, but enlightening to what Nebraska could do. Nebraska out coached them, but execution simply wasn't on par with it. I don't expect that to be the case anymore. We have a ton to look forward to.
