That said, it seems to be a problem across hip hop, in my opinion. Nas and Kendrick are still fairly sophisticated from a rhythmic standpoint, Em still can be when he wants to be (see the 2011 BET cypher), but otherwise there's a lot of really bland stuff out there.

Big Ern - the thing I don't get is that his material is arguably better than it used to be. It's not just gangster bs, like it used to be. But is flow is not the same. I don't know if he forgot how, or if the beats he uses now sort of stiffen up his feel, but that's what drives me nuts about his current music compared to his early stuff, which was dope.

I feel biased sometimes though, because I care way more about the beat and the flow than I do the actual content of his lyrics or his story, so I'm curious what others think...

Yeah, I can respect the lyrical prowess and virtuosity of Rap God, but it still doesn't have what his older music had.
