  1. There's something special beginning here. This just looks like a different team. Forgive me if I'm overreacting again.

I am watching the game, and I love Nebraska too. But I've always disagreed with the notion that the QB is more important than the rest of the offensive unit combined.

The one place I do think TA looks better than anyone else is running the option.

Taylor hasn't been the same guy for some time now? What does that mean? He wasn't running this simplified offense earlier this year, and he was hurt. Last year he was first team All-conference.

Tim Beck has SAID that the offense was simplified after the UCLA game. From the man himself.

I love how the offense looks! Just think it has more to do with the unit's execution, and not just the QB. Now, I'm glad that TA and RK3 are playing, because I'd rather have them playing healthy than TM hurt. But I'm not going to make judgements on whether they are on the level of TM until I see him run the same (simplified) offense at full strength.

Not claiming that a veteran offense plays harder for a redshirt freshman than for a fifth year senior, for one.

The offense is playing harder right now with RKIII too, who actually throws it to the numbers. I like TA, I like all our players. Just hoping for a dose of rational thought, though I'm not sure why I came to this board for that...

Don't you think that has more to do with Beck's adjustments in coaching and gameplanning since UCLA? Don't see why anyone would play harder for TA than for TM, or vice versa. On top of that, every throw I've seen from TA today has been high...

  11. Nobody has taken my question seriously but it's an honest question. Everyone keeps talking about how the offense was pared down Saturday. I would just like to know from someone smarter than I, what was so different? We looked more versatile than I remember seeing us in quite some time.

    1. Hercules

      Hercules

True - I don't understand your question. Versatile isn't the same thing as complex. If you want to know what was different - go look at Beck's quotes. Instead of practicing 10 plays, 5 times, they practiced 5 plays, 10 times. That resulted in better execution.

  12. Zero personnel issues with the defense. It's all in the scheme. Too few defenders in the box all game long to expect to consistently stop the run. B1G play could be ugly if Bo doesn't adjust.

      Hercules

It's scheme and execution, not one or the other. Some of the guys just aren't playing hard.

Not only is he arguing with J. Peter, but he's managing to out-crazy him, which I didn't know was possible.

  15. I'm no expert on X's and O's, but I will say this. With everything else the same, Bo's genuine comfort and calmness is different, refreshing and speaks something. Something good? I hope so.

Ok, you guys gotta help me out. Does it get better after the first few episodes? I watched the first 3 or 4 a couple weeks ago and quit because I couldn't stand how bad David Duchovny was. He was basically just reading lines. Does it improve?

  17. My fear for this week is that there is literally no performance that this team can turn in that will satisfy this fan base. Absolutely none. We could win the game 56-10 and people will complain because we gave up too many yards, or TMart got hurried one time. Or we didnt have a single INT or force a fumble. Or they got 10 first downs. Literally no way of pleasing some.

    1. Hercules

      Hercules

If we actually beat somebody 56-10 and people are still complaining, then you should make a post about how those people can't be pleased. But we just gave up 600 yards to an unranked Mountain West squad.

Yeah... Don't have a problem with that rule not being enforced as long as it's not enforced throughout college football. We'll have to see how consistent they are.

  20. I love how ESPN thinks "being tired" is a legitimate excuse for SCs bad defensive play....

    1. Hercules

      Hercules

It is a legitimate excuse for playing badly. There's no legitimate excuse for being tired on the first drive of the third quarter in the first game of the year, though. Bad conditioning.

He has been thoroughly unimpressive. He's not even playing to the whistle, and he still can't go a series without taking a break.

  23. Anybody else listen to the Husker Prayer talk on Benning/Sharp Friday morning?

Since the Callahan era, the team has been saying "until we can't be beat, won't be beat." I guess the correct version is "the team that can't be beat, won't be beat." Benning and Foreman were pissed.
