  1. Forget about his personality for a second. This would be a great hire for a number of reasons. 1. He's a damn good coach and he's proven that he can win in the Big Ten, and do it without elite recruits. He won 3 straight conference titles for a reason, beating Ohio State and their host of 5-stars on a routine basis. 2. His style of play is a perfect fit. Can you imagine how many yards Abdullah would've rushed for behind his offensive lines? My god. That would be tremendous. 3. Our woes against Wisconsin would almost surely end. We'd just be a better version of them. 4. He's only 44. Could stay for a while. Look, I'm not a fan of the man, personally, but if he wins games, and wins championships, that's really all I care about.
  2. OK, I've come to my senses. Apologize for the dumb suggestion. Was watching Alabama roll Auburn, Kiffin getting a ton of praise, reminded myself that he's from Lincoln and I got excited. I do stand by my Tom Herman suggestion, though. I'd rather have him than Frost.
  3. Interesting. He really didn't have any serious violations at Tennessee. The Vols had some "minor" violations in the one year he was there, and some that have come out since 2011, but nothing more than some minor recruiting stuff. This article does a good job breaking down the violations: http://www.conquestchronicles.com/2011/2/28/2021620/a-breakdown-of-lane-kiffins-violations-at-tennessee
  4. Completely fair. Obviously we have no idea how long any head coach will stay here if hired. Kiffin's past certainly suggests he would bolt at a better opportunity. USC is off the table, though, and that's really the only west coast job better than Nebraska. And he's from here, so maybe that means something. Again, I understand it's a wild, crazy, probably dumb suggestion. But he'd be on a list of candidates for me if we go the assistant route, along with Ohio State's Tom Herman, who would probably be the much safer choice.
  5. Kiffin's been an OK college coach. He won 7 games at Tennessee his first year, a very respectable amount, obviously, since it got him hired at USC. At USC, the biggest thing people had against him was how immaturely he acted, how he dealt with the media, the skipping out on press conferences after losses, etc. Obviously, he didn't win enough at USC, but he went 10-2 his second year, that's decent. I'm not sure why it's so confusing to say Kiffin has hopefully learned how to better run a program after spending a season learning from the best coach in college football.
  6. Again, completely understand that this is something people would laugh it. Probably cringe at. That's fine and acceptable. He was good enough at Tennessee to get hired by USC. At USC, he was young, immature, mostly inexperienced and had to deal some with pretty harsh NCAA sanctions. Really, the only thing people have against him is the way he acts off the field. I'm choosing to believe he's grown thanks to learning under Saban.
  7. Before this gets out of control, I very much understand that there are some people who are probably 100 percent against the thought of hiring Lane Kiffin to replace Bo. He has a bad history as a head coach, has had some embarrassing moments, has acted immaturely at nearly every stop he's been, etc. There's nothing I can probably do to change your mind if you have that stance, and I totally get that. However, if Nebraska does decide to fire Bo, I think Kiffin should get a serious look. Here's why: He was born in Lincoln. His dad coached and played here. Even if Lane is too young to remember what it's like to be part of the Nebraska football culture, his dad surely can fill him in. If having ties to Nebraska/understanding the tradition is an important attribute for a new coach to have, Lane fits the bill. He's one of the brightest offensive minds in college football. That's not really something I need to prove. As he's proving with Alabama this season, he knows how to fully take advantage of the talent he has. He's an incredible recruiter. That's something Nebraska needs. The only thing Nebraska is in comparison to the elite programs right now (Bama, Ohio State, FSU, etc) is a good recruiting base. Hiring someone who is an outstanding recruiter closes that gap. He's young - 39. That's not too important, but I like the idea of building something with someone who could stay here for a while. Lastly, and most importantly, he's spent the last year coaching under the best head coach in college football. Certainly, he's learned what it takes to run a top-tier program from Nick Saban. That doesn't mean he's going to turn into Nick Saban, but he's 100 percent in better shape to lead a program now than he was when he took the USC job. Anyone else with me? Again, completely agree if you're not. But I think we could get Kiffin and it'd be a mistake to at least not consider him.
  8. That's just a stupid call at this point in the game. The one thing NU can't do is turn the ball over, why run a stupid trick play like that?
  9. You might be right, but it's too soon to tell. You have to remember that Pelini is only in his fourth year as a head coach. You can't expect someone to master a craft in less than four years. Sure, Pelini has been in football for the majority of his life, but being a head coach is a whole lot different then being a coordinator. It took Nick Saban more than 10 years to win a national championship as a head coach. Our team is young and learning, and so is our head coach.
  10. Hopefully Iowa can beat MSU at home next week. The season is very far from over, and all the goals Nebraska wanted to attain before this game happened are still possible. And anyone who says "we don't deserve to win the Big Ten, play in the Rose Bowl, etc." just save it.
  11. What a pathetic play call. All the speed we have on offense and on 4th and 2 you call a run straight up the middle? Speed option or roll Martinez out, come on.
  12. This will not be a night game. Pretty sure it is an actual rule in the Big Ten. Even the #1 vs. #2 matchup deemed the "game of the century" between OSU and Mich. 5 years ago was a 3:30 game.
  13. The Big Ten football chant is fine, but besides this win, it's not like Wisconsin fans or the Big Ten has much to brag about. The Big Ten is a physical conference, but is also known for not playing well in big non-conference games and not showing up in BCS bowl games. If Nebraska went to the SEC and this happened, it would be validated. The SEC is by far the best football conference and they prove it year in and year out.
  14. This game is far from being over. Our secondary played bad, but Wilson was damn near perfect with his ball placement, he will come back down to earth in the 2nd half. The first interception is on Taylor, I put the second on Beck. He's not a passing QB, you can mix in passes here and there but T-mart isn't yet a QB that can slice and dice defenses with his arm. Points on this first drive would be big.
  15. Anyone who thinks we won't have anything up our sleeve on both sides of the ball that Wisconsin hasn't seen is nuts too. Sure, the Huskers havent looked that great on either side of the ball yet, but we're 3-0, and I'm sure Bo and co. have some different packages that will make things difficult for Wisconsin.
  16. Can she do our recruiting for us? Seriously, hire her to go into the house of every 17-year-old, 5 star african-american teenager and we will get every single one.
  17. That's pretty typical for Texas. They always get the in-state talent, and Texas has a ton of it, and they get on these kids early and get them to commit.
  18. Washington would be a great place for Bubba to be. He'd get to be with fellow teenage phenom Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth. The Nationals have some excellent young talent, by the time Bubba gets to the MLB the Nats could very well be a playoff team. And D.C. is a great city.
  19. This list is absurd. Just because a program has been good lately doesn't mean it is a good job. He is also putting way too much stock into recruiting areas. Notre Dame pulls in 5 stars every year, and they're in Indiana, not necessarily a recruiting hot bed. Georgia, FSU, Auburn, and Oregon should not be ahead of us. I do agree that Texas and OSU are the 2 best jobs though. Money, recruiting area, history, fans, facilities, are all the best there.
  20. Urban Meyer and Jon Gruden have been rumored to be two of the top candidates for the job if it opens. Meyer is probably the most logical choice, and even though he just retired, Ohio State is probably the one job that would make him come out of retirement. OSU is a top 3 job in the country, and they will give him a ton of money. Gruden is a possibility also. He's said that he wants to get back into coaching, and even though he was a high-level NFL coach, OSU is a pretty premier coaching gig, and he was recently at OSU to speak at a coaches clinic, and has watched OSU practice multiple times. If OSU doesn't get either of those 2, Bo is probably the next choice. Remember that OSU hired Tressel when he was at Youngstown State, so its not like they are only going to look for guys who have won big already.
  21. Preseason rankings do not take into account strength of schedule, so just because we have a tough schedule doesn't mean we should be ranked lower. For those of you claiming we should be ranked lower, who would you put ahead of us. We return 3 possible All American's on defense at each level in Dennard, David and Crick, and on offense, we return a QB who killed teams when he was 100% and we brought in some very highly ranked offensive recruits. Maybe we won't end up in the top 10 at the end of the year, but based on what we bring back and our coaching staff, we deserve to be top 10.
  22. Technically we should only have 12 schollies available but I would almost guarantee that we sign 15-16 guys in the 2012 class. Over signing is becoming a trend in college football. Even though only 12 schollies are available, there are plenty of ways to over sign kids.
  23. We definitely have a chance, I wouldn't bet on it or anything, but we have just a good a chance as most of the top teams out there right now. The schedule is ridiculously hard, probably top 2-3 in the country. But I think that helps us. If we're a really good team, we will win 11 or 12 of our games. The schedule is going to reveal what type of team we really are. If we are what we think we are on defense, and Martinez develops, stays healthy and we get production from some of our freshman studs, we could have a great chance to go 11-1 or 12-0, and then win the Big 10 championship game. A 12-1 record would give us a decent chance at making the National Championship, a 13-0 record and we're going, no doubt.
  24. The best teams in college football are the deepest. If there is a talented player out there, we take him regardless of position. But our biggest needs are probably at WR and DB, also probably the d-line.
  25. Id give our class an A. We got our biggest target, which was Aaron Green. Love Turner, absolutely love what we got on the O-line. Probably couldve done a little better at a couple spots, but we couldve done a lot, lot worse. I would agree in saying this looks like it could be our best class in years.
