  1. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/26/washington/26rights.html?_r=1&ref=us&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin I'm not saying it isn't true, but I have a hard time believing that any American business did anything but minimize damage when it came this. Statements like this drive me nuts. It's no different than 'Forced Diversity'. If you are not hiring someone because they are in a wheel chair or a non Caucasian race, then you are an idiot and you should be fired. I would say more often than not these rules are used for lawsuits. It's funny that you bring up a cold. Something that has recently come up is a version of FMLA that has been labeled as 'Intermittent'. The version allows you to miss a day here and there instead of a block, say a month, or time. Basically, a Dr. can write you a note saying that you will periodically miss work over an extended time period, usually 6 months. Since FMLA allows you to miss up to 2 months out of the entire year, can you imagine how disruptive it is to let people just come and go as they please? Because FMLA is a law, some employees count every single absence as FMLA. The can miss 60 days in a year a guess what.....they have the same attendance as the guy/gal that didn't miss any work in 275 work days. I wish people could understand that some Doctors will write a note for anything. It's yet another thing that makes American business less competitive as I must keep a larger than necessary workforce to cover such blatantly poor attendance. That translates into higher product/service costs. You then put an entire organization on the hook because of a handful of people that are working the system. Unfortunately, I see the UNK issue as something similar. I am familiar with UNK from a previous life and my guess is they are talking about the university apartments that are adjacent to the campus on the NW side. You can't let people start making their own rules. It sets a terrible precedent and ultimately brings the system down. Moving away and going to college is difficult for many kids for a lot of different reasons. This girl and her family need to show some accountability.

  3. How about just pay the taxes they are supposed to. It really isn't a partisan thing. I understand this type of crap has been going on literally forever. My point is, the current administration is either appointing or forcing the opinion down our throat the rich need to pay more taxes. This may/may not be true. The problem is, the people they have used so blatantly for their propanda can't even follow the current tax rules. I think people are so blind with 'rich' envy that they are missing what is going on here. Washington is for sale (always has been) and that is what needs to stop. We need to stop the UNfree trade and start collecting some corporate taxes.
  4. The slippery slope argument generally results from laziness. The goat and fish straw men are noted. Overly dramatic..yes. Laziness..no. Where does it stop? Once you open the door how do you close it? When did life become a disorder? A slippery slope is exactly what it is. I have 40 employees and I will tell you one thing that is a fact....................you can get a Dr's note for ANYTHING that says you are unable to do this or that. If you can't get the note, you get a different doctor. The way the FMLA system works, bad diarrhea is no different than a heart transplant. I imagine that wasn't the intention, but the door has been opened and it now is what it is.

  9. This will end up opening up a can of worms like all other erroneous lawsuits. Pretty soon a kid will need to bring his goat because he can't get laid. Another will have to have his fish to eat away toe fungus. At what point could the line possibly be drawn? This child's parents failed her. She obviously has issues and shouldn't be moving three hours away from home. Instead of confronting those issues, her mother has decided to blame the university instead of telling her kid 'Maybe this isn't the right fit for you'. Don't worry about it. A new excuse to raise costs at a University......Carpet replacement and bug bombing in pet friendly student housing. Only in America! http://journalstar.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/article_2ffe4d32-c27a-5bf7-a076-982affa7d9af.html
  10. I just can't believe how the Republicans continue to trash(debate) eachother over and over again with the national spotlight on. Anderson Cooper is the next moderator? Seriously? When is Keith Obermann coming aboard? It's like trying to commit suicide with a toothpick. Yeah, you'll get it done eventually.
  11. By all means, start a new topic that's more interesting to talk about. I think it would kind of fun to have a guess how many posts Knapp with have in the month of October poll thread. Maybe the winner could get a Husker T-shirt. It would be guess the number of Jelly Beans in a Jar game we all did in school. I'll take 401 posts.
  12. The Daily Show did the same thing that every other outlet is doing. They take clips and use them to push their agenda. I saw clips from Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, ABC World News, CBS News. Too many of you take the 'Daily Show' as a news outlet when really all they are doing is trying to be funny. I don't see how it any different when Glenn calls people Nazis or Keith Orberman goes off on the Tea Party. They are all entertainment and driven by ratings. I watch clip after clip of Fox News interviewing the biggest idiot they can find about 'Occupy Wall Street'. MSNBC has done the same thing with Tea Party members. The Daily Show then trolls thousands of clips and puts a bleeped out F-Bomb comment from Jon Stewart in with them. Same things as far as I am concerned. I saw one mention of the word Nazi and it talked about the movement that brought the Nazi's to power. I need to go back and brush up on my history, but I think the movement brought the Nazi's in was that they were fighting off communism so strongly that they lost sight of everything else.
  13. I think this a lame topic. Why not if Bubba Starling didn't play baseball and Taylor got hurt in the first quarter against Wyoming, would we have won? Great victory for the Huskers.....Time to move on.
  14. I doubt you have any difficulty finding those videos, but then again that doesn't address the 'double standard' I questioned in the OP. What I do think you hard a time finding is GOP members calling the 'Occupy Wall Street' crowd the enemy or that they should go to hell. I also think it will be difficult to find videos of any Dem's praising the tea party. BTW...I enjoy debating with you Carlfense. Although we rarely agree, you are respectful.
  15. You could easily be asking the opposite. Why did Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck etc. celebrate the Tea Partiers while decrying these protests as illegal socialist mobs? Perspective, I suppose. I posted a video of the president and two congresswomen and you come back with Glenn Beck? Is he even on TV anymore?
  16. Just give the guy time. It's way too early. I have said it all year and I will continue to say it. Our corners aren't that bad. I would even take it a step further and say given their experience, they have played well. There is no pass rush and safety help hasn't been there.
  17. I'm not really going to get into right/wrong of the protest. I think much like MSNBC/CNN does, Fox has gone out to interview the morons present in every group. I do think there are some legitimate concerns behind the reason for the protests. My real question is why are these people embraced and tea party groups are 'crazy'?
  18. Well gee, 34 pts vs a top 15 defense can do that sometimes. Imagine that? It wasnt that they did it. It was how. Ohio St. has problem on offense yes, but their defense is still BCS caliber and in the 4th our guys were literally knocking them all over the field. Rex's run for the lead showed numerous white shirts on the ground. i thought I was watching a Slesinger run against Miami. Dobson needs a raise. Agreed. This guy is so far under anyone's radar. We are lucky to have this guy.
  19. I'm just glad everyone now thinks the offense is fixed. One half has whitewashed everything.
