  1. Molinari is a class guy but there's nothing confirming the rumor right now.
  2. Rumor circulating today is current Western Illinois Coach Jim Molinari will leave the Leathernecks (Summit League) and become an assistant at Nebraska. So far, looks like internet chatter but the WIU fan message board brought it up. Molinari has very firm ideas about defense...should be an interesting contrast with the faster pace exhibited by Miles's teams. Molinari is also known as a great guy and has an interesting background, not only in coaching stints but otherwise (e.g. he has a law degree). If this rumor turns about to be true, consider the odd contrast: Smith leaves Nebraska to take over Summit League USD. Molinari leaves a HC position at WIU in the Summit League, to take Smith's old position at Nebraska.
  3. I think USD fan discussions focused on Ryan Miller but the administration seemed to be focused on Coach Smith. I think Smith was always the front-runner for the position and, it's a great hire for USD. If you haven't viewed the Tim Miles video clip he posted on Smith going north to USD, do so. It's hilarious as well as highly complimentary of Coach Smith. I think it's linked to Miles's twitter account.
  4. This is a team that the fans can like. They're working their butts off...they're not perfect but you just know that you can't ever count them out...they seem to be enjoying themselves and they're fun to watch. In some ways, they're a little extension of Tim Miles's personality. I think fans sense that Nebraska basketball is going to be fun for a lot of years to come.
  5. When was the last time a FCS school hosted ESPN College Gameday and their biggest rival was playing Alabama? Probably the same answer to your question. I still don't buy that they picked SDSU to beat Nebraska just to hype another FCS school. The turmoil we went through this last week and the way our defense has been getting shredded made this pick a possibility. I'm not taking a side in the discussion but can provide some information (which can be manipulated as you please!): The guy you're talking about is Phil Hansen, the NDSU radio color-commentary guy. Hansen was an outstanding player for NDSU and then for the Buffalo Bills. Here's the intro paragraph on Hansen's page on Wikipedia: Phillip Allen Hansen (born May 20, 1968) is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League for the Buffalo Bills, drafted in the second round, making the 1991 all-rookie team, and playing on three Super Bowl teams. He played college football at North Dakota State University, setting records with 41 regular-season sacks and 32 pass breakups, and started on Division II national championship teams in 1988 and 1990. He accumulated 61.5 sacks for the Bills and was inducted onto the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame on September 18, 2011. Saturday morning, Hansen was asked for his upset pick and he picked the Jackrabbits over Nebraska. When Hansen played for the Bison, he was a dominating player on a dominating team. NDSU took SDSU apart during each of the four years Hansen played. On the subject of Saturday's game...I just watched the first quarter again. Damn. Neither team played much defense. SDSU's defense, pre-season, was being talked about but our defensive coordinator left the program and the new guy (a former Nebraska player) is putting in some new stuff. So far, well, you saw what happened. We hope those guys get it together and play like they are capable of playing and if they do, by the end of the season there may have earned more respect in Lincoln. Our big game is Saturday. NDSU comes to Brookings. NDSU's team hasn't been challenged yet this year and we'll see if the Jackrabbits show up to challenge them Saturday. NDSU is capable of playing textbook, mistake-free football.
  6. What is "copable"? A girl I dated in high school was copable (bad joke...probably only understood by guys older than 45). Did you mean "culpable"? I'm going to pass on commenting further on some of the legal theories I've read on this message board...my comment is two posts above. I don't have two cents to add to the debate about Bo but I'm interested in the topic generally because it interjects a lot of noise and I wonder what impact, if any, that noise will have on this weekend's game.
  7. The person recording him could face legal repercussions from Bo (if fired) or the University could take action against the person that recorded Bo right now if they want to do their own investigation. Or, the person who did this can step forward so we can publicly embarrass him/her but they won't because they're fully aware that if they did that, they would get SUHed by UNL. The university itself won't face legal ramifications for what transpired today unless if the person was somehow connected to UNL. I won't claim to be an expert on Nebraska law. But, if Nebraska law permitted a claim to be asserted by Bo as suggested in your first sentence, or a claim by UNL as suggested in your second sentence, then Nebraska law would be quite unique to American law generally. Perhaps everyone is just enjoying some message-board speculation and no one is being serious.
  8. SDSU 31, Nebraska 20 UNL rushing 195; UNL passing 78. SDSU rushing 257 (Zenner 165); SDSU passing 185
  9. Shoff, #63, is getting some good minutes with an experienced offensive line for the Jackrabbits. He will be a dominating player in our league and has all the tools to play on Sunday. Another interesting backstory on a player with a lot of upside: watch #54 in the defensive line. That's Cole Langer, a true freshman, grandson of Jackrabbit All-American and NFL Hall of Famer Jim Langer, the legendary Center on the great Dolphins teams from the 70's. Best center to play the game. Cole's not a starter. He was expected to red-shirt but has simply demonstrated too much ability to be just watching from the sidelines. Last time the Jackrabbits came to Lincoln, they were 0-2. Now we're 3-0 with wins over a hapless Butler (55-14), North Dakota (35-28...UND is not a very good football team but has a few athletes; however, we let up on the gas and UND came roaring out of a deep hole to make the score closer) and yesterday's win over Southeast Louisiana (34-26). SELA plays a very confusing, unconventional defense (baffled TCU last weekend) and has a very good, mobile quarterback who transferred in from Oregon. It was a wild game.
  10. You left out the fact that he also coached at South West Minnesota State. T_O_B G>B>R You're right to point out Tim coached at Southwest Minnesota State -- another example of taking a program that was down on its luck and turning it into a winner. I thought that Tim "arrived" and was discovered by the Twin Cities media at his job after SW MN State: NDSU. There he recruited Ben Woodside, an Albert Lea, MN kid, who was totally overlooked by the U of MN. The radio jockeys quickly learned they couldn't find a better interview than Tim Miles and Tim's name is routinely mentioned whenever people start griping about Gopher basketball. Minnesota has some very good basketball talent and they've been pretty easy to entice to schools outside Minnesota. With Miles at the helm, Nebraska will have a good shot at those players.
  11. Nebraska's hire of Tim Miles just opened the doors to recruiting in the Twin Cities and the entire state of Minnesota. Until Nebraska joined the B1G, Nebraska basketball was unheard of in Minnesota. Even with Nebraska in the conference, the Huskers were not competitive for Minnesota talent (some wags would say the same about the Gophers). But, Tim Miles became a well-known name in the Twin Cities starting with his coaching days at North Dakota State and continuing to his tenure at Colorado State. KFAN, the popular sports-talk radio station in the Twin Cities, routinely called Miles -- always good for a quote and a funny quip. When Nebraska announced it had hired Miles, the Twin Cities media picked up the story. When big man Colton Iverson (Yankton, SD) announced he was leaving the Gophers after his junior year (2010-11), he went to Colorado State so that he could play his last year under Miles. Miles had tried to get Iverson to NDSU and nearly succeeded but Iverson elected to go to the bigger program at Minnesota. (Iverson sat out this year but will play for CSU next season.) Miles is a very good coach but he's a better recruiter. The dads and moms of top recruits love the guy. He'll be in the running for every good recruit in the region -- something Nebraska has not been able to say in years. Good luck to Nebraska -- I think the Miles hire will prove to be a great one.
  12. Those of you who took offense at the "I hate N" sign...wait to you go to your first conference battle at Iowa. A few of those people have taken "nasty" to the level of a profession. they can't be as bad as CU fans......they are just plan heathens! I thought we were only making comparisons with fans who, genetically, appear to be human beings. If one removes as criteria, "human being", then you may be right about some CU fans.

  14. Yeah, my post was confusing. I was talking about a couple of comments Bo made and realize the interview quotes were from Carl. Anyway...Lincoln was a great time last weekend. The NU fans were great. The Sidetrack ought to be franchised.
