1. I got this from BTN.com/connect Brandon Cavanaugh @eightlaces Hits keep coming for Nebraska recruiting. Apparently Claudeson Pelon has canceled his trip to Lincoln. BTW. who is Brandon Cavanaugh?
2. We are heading to the Golden Gophers game. We went 2 years ago and it was a good time. Nice people, nice new stadium and in a nice area. Now that we've already been there, we know what we can and cannot do before the game. Plus the big mall is quite a draw for the wives. The only possible issue is it's an early November start and so the weather could be freezing cold, but we just had snow last night (May 1), so I'm expecting 80 degrees and sunny.
3. Actually, I just bought a hand held golf GPS device and it has the ability to track all the info you mentioned. I'll start doing so this year, but I know what my biggest issue is. I have trouble hitting greens consistently from inside150 yards. Therefore I need to get a bunch of up & downs from off the green throughout the round. When I do , I'll be in the 70's, if not, my score goes up to mid 80's.
4. I want to take a golf lesson. I've been playing for awhile and my handicapps around 10. I don't have any major flaws, but I just want to get better, more consistent with all clubs. Anyone take a lesson with a particular pro that has helped you out and you would recommend? I'd to stay in the Lincoln/Omaha area, but if it worth it, I'd drive awhile.
5. Craig Smith‏@CoachSmith_Neb3h Excellent couple days of recruiting! Just landed from my red-eye...need to finish up strong! #caffeine #coffee #GBR #players #nebrasketball
Reply RetweetRetweeted Delete FavoriteFavorited
More Embed Tweet
6. We found a place on Lake of the Ozarks that can accommodate all 30 of us and it was open when we could go. Thanks for all the replies. The Bella Vista sounds like a place I'll keep in mind for our next big family outing.
7. My parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this June. My Mom decided she wants treat all the family (30 people total) to a week at a resort. We need to wait until all the kids are done with baseball and softball, so we are thinking the last weekend in July or the first week in August. Anyone have any ideas where we can go. We did Okoboji a couple of years ago, so a similar place (with a lake, golf close by, other attractions) would be acceptable, but finding a place for all of us to stay at or near the same place in Okoboji this late in the year isn't gong to happen. Lake of the Ozarks is on the table, but I'm just looking for suggestions.
8. Damon Benning said on his radio show that he thinks this kid will commit just after his visit. Benning said that Dwaine was a Purdue commit, then the Huskers offered and Johnson called Purdue coaches and said "No Thanks" This guy will be N soon.
9. on Friday's Sharp & Benning in the Morning show, Damon Benning said he thinks Suttles will be a Husker when it's all said and done.
10. edited, two posters beat me to Twitter. Collins is a nice get, expect a few more in the next couple of days. IMO, no insider here
11. He is not big enough to play DT. I don't think Marrow putting on weight is the problem, in fact it's been deterimental to him playing fullback IMO.
12. ESPN's B1G blog has Husker Jr fullback Mike Marrow on their Big 10 Post-Bowl draft outlook list as the #5 rated fullback. Has he declared or is this just wishfull thinking by me. The guy is simply too big and slow to play fullback. He can't lead on pitch plays and he doesn't do much when leading plays between the tackles. Honeslty Marrow should move to the other side of the ball and play defensive tackle.
13. EZ-E's first point is spot on. My wife was a transfer student recruiter at one of the Nebraska GPAC schools and she confirmed it to be true. She didn't know about the online classes because that statute has recently been changed and she's no longer in recruiting.
14. Will immediately be the best player on the defense next year. Wow. WOW that says alot for a guy who hasn't played a down of college football
15. I posted this same question on a non-Husker message board and someone suggested putting the rib in an oven bag to keep in the moisture. Remember, I'm not smoking it, just cooking it and these smokers have a tendancy to dry out meat a bit, especially if there isn't a whole lot of fat to begin with.
16. K-State's starting defense (according to the depth chart I could find online) consists of 8 JUCO transfers, one Miami transfer (LB Aurther Brown at least thats what I think his name is) and a grand total of 2 high school players. There have always been problems with JUCO rankings (big swings both good and bad), so the fact that KSU's rankings have been horrible doesn't surprise me. What Bill (Old Balls) Snyder has done with these players is flat-out amazing.
17. I was thinking of using my Cabela's electric smoker to finish off my Christmas prime rib. I plan to put it in the oven on 500 degrees for awhile to sear the outside, then put it in the smoker on 200 for the rest of the cooking. I'm NOT going to put any wood chips in it at all, just use the smoker as another oven. Will it worK?
18. Word is that the trains from the station nearest to the stadium quit running at 7pm. Is that true?
19. My brother in law watched Christian play against Lincoln Pius and sent me a one word text when I asked him how Lacouture was, "Overrated"
20. Lincoln's lack of infrastructure is easily explained. Most American cities are proactive in their thinking, Lincoln is reactive. (Plus its politically corrupt as hell and I know this for a fact but I'm not going there)
21. +1 If Armstrong's the #2, you don't redshirt him, you play him for two reasons. 1. high profile recruits need to see first year players get time on the field. 2. next year you redshirt incoming QB Johnny Stanton, so then Armstrong's a junior and Stanton's a redshirt freshment
22. The debate on which brand of baseball is better, or "this is not real baseball" needs to stop, not on this board, but others as well. What these kids from Kearney did was quite an accomplishment. They should be cheered for what they have done. These kids competed within their sanctiond rules and succeeded. Give em the props that they deserve.
23. Seriously, when was the last time you've seen Jason? I golfed in the Brendan Stai benefit tourney a couple of weeks ago and Jason walked by me and I asked my golfing partner who was that? He's skinny, I'm guessing about 190 pounds, with long straggly hair. Honestly, the man didn't look healthy.
24. Athlon's just put out an article on where some of the current PSU players should transfer to. Nebraska was included in possible teams for all three linebackers. Gerald Hodges, LB – After becoming a major contributor to the defense late in the 2010 season, Hodges emerged as one of the unit's top players in 2011. He led Penn State with 106 tackles last year, while also recording 10 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. Hodges earned first-team All-Big Ten honors last season and was nominated to the Butkus Award watchlist for 2012. He is expected to be one of the first linebackers off the board in the 2013 NFL Draft. Possible Fits: TCU, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Baylor, Texas, West Virginia, Nebraska, Auburn, Arkansas, LSU 4. Michael Mauti, LB – Injuries have limited Mauti in his career but if healthy, is capable of ranking among the Big Ten’s top linebackers. He recorded 21 tackles in four games last year but suffered a torn ACL in the 34-6 win over Eastern Michigan. Mauti played in 11 games in 2010 and recorded 67 tackles and two sacks. All signs point to a return to full strength by Mauti, but he may need a few games to knock off the rust. Considering Mauti's father played at Penn State, it could be difficult for him to leave Happy Valley. Possible Fits: Michigan, NC State, Baylor, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn, TCU 5. Khairi Fortt, LB – With Mauti, Hodges, Glenn Carson and Fortt, the Nittany Lions have one of the Big Ten’s top linebacking corps for 2012. Fortt finished spring practice just behind Glenn Carson on the depth chart and is expected to make another push for a starting spot this fall. He logged significant snaps last season, recording 33 tackles and six tackles for a loss. As a junior, Fortt is only scratching the surface on his potential and could have a breakout 2012 season. Possible Fits: Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn rest of the article here http://www.athlonsports.com/college-football/penn-state-football-players-where-they-should-transfer Another thing, just remember Ron Brown's prayer/speech before last years game at Happy Valley. Some of those kids might want to play for a guy like Ron Brown and honestly who would blame them?
25. CBSsports.com is calling the sanctions the NCAA will levy on Penn State (university as whole and the football program) on Monday as "unprecdented." I would think that not only this year's commits will start jumping ship, but quite a few current members of the program will also look to get out. Who do we want?
