  1. I am with you 74 Hunter, I am thinking like Nebraska would have all-pro football players ON THE BENCH. What other program has had that kind of talent come through the doors?
  2. A buddy and I were talking about the all time Husker greats, and if you could build a team with the best at each position. Who would you put at first and second team for each spot? We discussed QB's RB's and defense. When you had this team put together, could any other program in the history of College football compete with the Huskers? I threw out there that to me there would only be a few programs able to fill the spots and compete. Maybe Alabama, Oklahoma, and LSU historically. I can't think of any other programs who would have had the horses in the modern era. What do you think?
  3. It depends on the players. I would rather never see one given out again than have them given out when not earned. Not even for one game. They've got to show it on the field. For at least 4 quarters. They haven't done that yet. Pure and simple. You want free trophies go play pop warner. I hold the Black Shirt in that high of regard. So should you. Bo does.
  4. Here's a little trivia for those who remember 1983 or those who are very good searching for information. In 1983 the Huskers led by Turner Gill rolled to a victory over a team racking up 790 total yards and scoring 84 pts in one game. Do you know who the opponent was?
  5. I believe that the defense has turned a corner and they did so before Braxton went out. When David took the ball from him it lit a spark in that whole unit and there was no looking back. I believe that even if the QB didn't get injured for Ohio St. we still would have come back potentially for a close win. I don't see a need to diagnose the defense. They are better already.
  6. you are right. He aint no QB. You can see it and feel it deep down. I remember how frustrated I was in the days when we didn't have Steve Taylor any more and we were struggling going through QB's trying to find a spark Then along came Frazier..... That offense won't spark till you get the right guy under center. Time to change. At this point there are also other problems. I am concerned for the future of the program. It's been a few years now (11) since we were serious contenders or "the complete package" How long can fans and recruiting go before you just fall back into the pack permanently? Are we there already? The young kids coming up don't remember what Husker football was about. They don't remember the 40 years of butt kickin. They don't remember when the Blackshirts suited up to shut you down EVERY year.
  7. stop talking about the play calling and Watson. That's uninformed fan talk. Games are won and lost with heart, solid fundamentals, talent and coaching Simply put, we lack mostly in the quarterback position where 3 turnovers and lack of a real quarterback are glaringly obvious. Gotta get the next guy ready asap. Martinez is a nice slot back or flanker but not a QB. Defense did the best they could but we don't have anything close to the line we had in 09. Their was a lot asked of that defense tonight, Wisc is the total package right now. Realistically we have a lack of offensive identity and no quarterback. And where is the counter- trey, the play that WE taught the NFL? This loss was as bad as I can remember.
  8. In Sept. 2001 we were fighting several fires while spiked out at a fire camp near the Grand Canyon (yes THE Grand Canyon) I knew the Huskers were playing and went to the chase truck and turned on the radio. Guess what? Right there on KRVN 880 AM were the huskers playing loud and clear, just like back home! No I didn't watch it, but it was a strange circumstance.
  9. Swift and Peterson were gamers. Some of the others were hit or miss. Purify was outstanding at times, but Swift and Peterson always went for the ball and always to CATCH it.
  10. I know one thing for sure. If you want to contrast fans, contrast Nebraska and Oklahoma fans. I spent some time on the Sooner football forum last year, and every other post is "corn faggets" or "huck the fuskers" or "f____ Nebraska", "bugeaters" on and on. They have a "reputation" page where they can hurl insults at you just to brighten your day. Contrast that with this thread for example, with mostly utmost respect for the opponent. It really is what sets NU fans apart. My daddy told me how they was when I was young and I thought he was just partial. One of these days I will learn to listen to him.
  11. should've gone after Frost HARD letting him know for sure that he would have play calling within 2 years after first bringing in the Oregon system. This O-line will never have the 90's swagger under Cotton. Bank it.
  12. I think now Husker fan knows that the honeymoon, or grace period is over and time for Bo to start getting over some hurdles. Here they are 1. This head coach needs to be more than just a superb defensive guru. He needs to bring the offense into the fold. He needs to demand the same level of developmnet from offensive personnel that we have seen in defensive personnel (Williams, Suh, David etc.) He needs to not only get on the same page with the offensive coaches but to provide their vision, direction and feedback. The vision needs to be a good one and it needs to come from the top! 2. This head coach needs grow personally in terms of dealing with anger and those that make him angry. Such a fiery disposition is awesome in a competitor but can be costly in terms of consequences if displayed improperly. We don't want a Woody Hayes incident. We don't want the face of the organization to be such an angry and hateful one. Pretty soon we will start missing plays on TV because the program director won't turn the cameras away. Honeymoon is over...lets be for improvin'!
  13. Thanks to those who have voted... keep it up until March 22nd! Thanks!
  14. Hello We are trying to get a grant to fund a great childrens education project called the Outdoor Learning area at the Nebraska State Fair. If you see this thread please forward this link to folks interested in voting for our project! You can vote every day until March 22nd and we need every vote we can get! We need to be in 3rd place or higher to receive funding for the project. Here is the link: http://www.iuowawards.com/Projects.aspx#search Thanks!
  15. If I were TO I would not have wasted time replying to your email. You are an emotional fan ( amateur) They are mature professionals. Leave them to their work, and grow up a little bit ok? TO is working on my tax dollars so quit wasting his time would you? If Watston needs to go he will know it a hell of a lot faster and better than you. And he is very right about McBride.
  16. Is there any reason to believe that they won't try to shaft us just as hard as the Big 12 just did? Have you looked at the schedule? What year do we get full revenue again?
  17. I think the offensive line was better this year, they did a decent job but not a NEBRASKA job. I think its definitely time for a change in the OL coaching, and I don't like what I see out of the offense, as a whole in terms of formations etc. I think Watson is somewhat of a chameleon or jack of all trades able to change offenses pretty quick but we need to go with something different and more consistent. You don't see the Colts running our stuff...
  18. I am all for the playoff now. This is crap. Especially for a playoff now since Oregon is in the national championship. No way that team would make it through a playoff with that defense. I can't believe the best minds in America can't find a way to make the playoff pay like the bowls do. Can you imagine if they did away with the NFL playoffs and decided the NFL champion based on the FBCS? I think that conference realignment will hasten a playoff. The sooner (sorry I used that word) the better.
  19. I share the same emotion, but I also remember how sure I was that Charlie McBride needed to go when the 5-2 wasn't stopping anybody, and our defense couldn't shut down Georgial Tech. I remember how sure I was that a staff change was in order.... Well as it turned out we kept the same dudes but changed athletes and went to the 4-3 and BAM, McBride was the best defensive coordinator in the country. If Watson gets sold on a direction for this offense and commits to it... you never know what can happen. But I do think a fresh young start might be as good or better. Scott Frost came to my mind right away, but I also (at the time) thought Steve Petersen made perfect sense to come back to the university as AD (being a Neb. man) and we all know how that turned out...
