  1. NU 41 Wyoming 17 NU Rush Yards 225 NU Pass Yards 190
  2. One thing thing that amazes me about the NFL is how big those dudes are. Janovich was a big guy on the field at NU, and he looks tiny out on the field in the NFL.
  3. What about Zaire Anderson. He's a backup LB for the Donkeys.
  4. Just thinking about Nebraska RB's, I remember Roy Helu breaking off a number of long runs. He was a great breakaway threat. I just looked through the first half of 2014, and Ameer had 5 or 6 long TD runs before he hurt his knee. There are plenty of breakaway threats at RB around college football.
  5. The grounding penalty was caused by a nice blitz by Lamar Jackson, but yes, I agree that the d-line did get some good pressure on the QB. The D didn't get any sacks without blitzing, but good pressure from the front 4 did force the QB to throw the ball early and inaccurate at times. I will throw out this football saying again "Pressure on the QB forces interceptions, while good coverage by the secondary forces sacks."
  6. It was more of the Big Ten (and Pac 10) boner for the Rose Bowl and their refusal to send their champion any where else, but yeah, they didn't want to be in the Bowl Alliance when it was formed back in the day.
  7. Teach and I used to live at 30th and T. Great part of town!!!
  8. In a cover 4 coverage, Jackson wouldn't have a lot of safety help behind him, as the back 4 DB's all cover 1/4 of the field. From what I have heard from various media members, Jackson was bailing early to avoid getting beat deep. They also commented that the OLB's weren't getting out wide enough on their coverage, so the Fresno QB's had easier throws on the 5-10 yard passes on the sides.
  9. Ndamukong Suh was in Ballers. The first couple episodes of season 2. Suh Casa! : Ballers is terrible, but I can't stop watching it. I still don't get how the Rock and the other guy are supposed to have an entire, amazing business around being financial guys for football players. Agents make a good % of athletes cash, but not financial guys.
  10. Woah, I can't believe the 13 colonies are declaring their independence from England. Bold move!!!

  11. Yeah, pretty sure he was inside at more of a DT position on at least a couple plays. But I don't really remember the situation now - I'm assuming pass rush package. I think that's part of the 30 package that Banker likes to use in pass rush situations. They use 3 down linemen, 2 LB's, and 6 DB's. Freedom would slide inside if one of the LB's is being asked to rush. Are you sure? I think they were playing a 3-3-5. No, I'm not 100% sure. I thought Banker called his dime package the 30 package. That would be 3 DL, 2 LBs, and 6 DBs. I could be wrong on that though.

  13. I'm kind of hoping to see some screen passes to Moore, and possibly a bubble screen to Newby this weekend. I'm not worried about showing Oregon or Ohio State or Wisconsin our playbook. I think the game this weekend needs to be about creating a template to be used against those three teams above. We are horrible in the screen game I'm not really putting this on TA but it is baffling how absolutely terrible we are at running screens for a team that apparently works on them quite a bit. I understand that TA is not great at throwing the screen pass, but I wonder how successful screen passes are going to be against d-lines who probably play a little more cautious on the pass rush against Armstrong. With Tommy, pass rushers may not be as aggressive getting up field, because of his scrambling ability. Therefore, the spacing needed to get the ball to the back isn't always there.
  14. One carry for 16 yards and I believe it was in the 4th quarter. I don't know why but he has found himself buried down the depth chart. Because the other guys are better than him right now.
  15. I don't really care who starts, and they each add their own qualities. I like Ozigbo, and is a pounder, but I don't think he has breakaway speed and is not a home run threat. Newby can be a home run threat. It will be interesting how they work Tre Bryant into the rotation. I really liked his carries in the 2nd half on Saturday, although Fresno had given up at that point.
  16. NU doesn't give preference to season tickets for alumni vs.non-alumni. If you are willing to make a donation to Athletic Department, you can get season tickets. The more you donate, the better season tickets you can get.
  17. Only watched the game live, haven't had a chance to watch tape, but the bold is the pass where Tommy threw a bullet into Ozigbo's facemask, yes? That was such a wasted opportunity. Now that I think about it, wasn't the pass to Newby also rifled in there too hard? A little more touch on those passes and we have much bigger gains. The Newby pass was rifled, but it's hard to fault that one. He had defenders closing in on both sides. Maybe it could have been a bit softer, but too much air and it's probably getting picked. It's something most NFL guys would have caught, but a low percentage ball in college. I know I made this point in my original post, but that pass play to Newby on the angle route was doomed to fail from the very start. Riley should have called timeout to make sure the o-line was settled and the team was 100% ready for a key 3rd and 2. No it wasn't. The play was there to be had with a decent throw. It was a mess getting going and we probably should have called a timeout but there was nothing about the play itself that was doomed to failure. TA's footwork doomed it to failure but that had nothing to do with the circus going on before the snap. Yes, Tommy had poor footwork and a bad throw, and was ultimately what caused the play to fail. I am just trying to bring up the fact that all the confusion and chaos going on had a big impact on it. Before the snap, I was thinking "oh man, WTF is going on". Yes, the play could have worked as it was run, but it was a poorly executed play all around.

If we used a timeout in situations like this we would be out of timeout midway thru the 1st and 4th quarters. Would love to hear the fanbase reaction if we got down to the 10 yard line needing a field goal to win and the clock ran out because we used them because a player was rushed onto the field with 15 to go on the play clock. It's ok to use a timeout in key situations during the game, and not save them for the end of each half.
  19. No problem. It's pretty easy to do with only 10-11 pass plays called.

  21. This is a valid point and should be considered for all dual threat type QB's - I would say that 3 yard gains are just short of successful ( 3 of those and it is 4th and 1 - punting). I would say that 5 yards or more would be successful plays getting you a first down if one of the 3 plays fails. It would be interesting to keep this stat for the entire season. My point of "3 yard gains" wasn't saying it is successful. However, those 3 yard gains are very similar to 3 yard passes that many teams utilize. Those 3 yard completions help inflate the completion %, even if it's not a very successful play. I was just trying to assign a running yardage equivalency to a completion.
  22. Listening to Sharp & Benning this morning, they are befuddled with Langsdorf's critique of the passing game. Brian Christopherson from the LJS said he will try to follow up this week on that issue. They did say that the passing game is more than just #4, and it includes the receivers, tight ends, and RB's. Maybe the WR's weren't as sharp as they needed to be without Keith Williams.
  23. Nebraska will always want 7 home games per year, and that is a little more difficult now that the B1G has gone to 9 conference games. Every other year, NU is guaranteed to 5 road games in conference play. That forces NU to only have home games in non-conference play. With the influx of TV money coming next year, maybe NU will become more relaxed on the 7 home game policy, and accept a neutral-site game. However, NU knows how much home games mean to the economy of Lincoln, so I think NU will try to get 7 home games every year.
