  1. NU never led at one point in that game. For 26 of the 30 minutes of the 2nd half, Iowa led by 11 points. NU was not threatening to win that game. Did the cold weather make it look like you were watching a different game? All due to mistakes by one player and the tossing of Gerry. The playcalling was pretty damn good all game long. You go boy! Way to throw the players under the bus. God know the coaches weren't seeing the same thing and calling mostly passing plays... Definitely only one player that cost is the game. PASS PLAYS FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Pass plays beat Michigan St, brought us back against Miami, kept us in the game against Iowa. So we should ignor the strength of the team (our recievers) ranked as the best in the B10 and run the ball with our backs?????????? Really! I have no words for that. If your QB cannot reliably get them the ball, then are they still a strength? He can when he sets his feet, You should ask someone to tell you the story about the last drive against Michigan St. It will be a classic some day.Yep, a true classic to turn a 4-8 season into 5-7. Hip hip... We won that game, Really ! it was in all the papers.Yep, it was a true classic!!! Just like losing to BYU, Miami, Illinois, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, and Iowa were true classics. Hip hip...

  3. Except it didn't against Iowa. NU scores a TD and gets within 4, and it took one play for Iowa to score. I know Gerry was out, but come on, make one stop to get the ball back to the offense.
  4. He redshirts next year and is a 4-year starter beginning 2017. One year of duplicity isn't a huge deal.
  5. I guess it's impossible to format copy and paste items. Screw you guys!!! Long story short, the D sucked for most of the year.
  6. I have seen a lot of posts from people giving A LOT of credit to Mark Banker for making adjustments and improving the D. Yes, the Blackshirts did play well against Rutgers and Iowa, to me, 2 games isn't a trend. If it is, why did it take 10 games for Banker to finally make necessary adjustments with this defense. Below is a chart (sorry for the formatting, I guess it's impossible to paste a picture in from Excel) that shows the points and yards given up by opponent this year. It also shows the average PPG and YPG for that opponent and their national ranking. The season started out like a dumpster fire against BYU, Miami, and So Miss, when NU played the best offenses it would face all year. Even when NU got into conference play, teams didn't have much of a problem moving the ball on NU. I can give credit to Banker for allowing fewer points than the yards would imply, but the defense constantly came up short this year. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise, given the team's record. The big thing to take out of this is how bad the Big Ten West offenses are. Wow!!! Points Avg. Points Ranking Yards Avg. Yards Ranking BYU 33 34.2 39 511 428 46 S. Alabama 9 24.8 95 332 360 102 Miami 36 28.9 65 511 401 65 So Miss 28 41.7 9 458 535 8 Illinois 14 22.7 102 382 373 89 Wisconsin 23 27.1 80 469 377 82 Minnesota 25 22.6 103 366 357 103 Northwestern 30 20.7 111 333 333 115 Purdue 55 25.1 93 457 369 94 Michigan State 38 33.4 44 491 399 68 Rutgers 14 27.1 80 259 377 83 Iowa 28 33.7 41 250 404 63 Total 27.8 401.6
  7. I think Texas A&M has claimed national championships based on 2-0 seasons.
  8. I'm so glad I learned that NU only played a 2 game season according to the RU's. Hip hip....
  9. I know Air Force doesn't have the caliber of OL Stanford has but I posted a video the the scheme thread tonight and I was impressed with how fast those guys got upfield to take on 2nd level defenders. Not overly big, but they got on their horses to get upfield and help develop the long runs. I'd love Calhoun to come here next year as HC if Riley stays. Great scheme, gets a lot out of a little and has a very disciplined squad.Do you mean if Riley gets fired? Riley isn't getting rid of Langsahan and Calhoun isn't coming to NU to be OC.
  10. I agree that having a great QB would be awesome. Cody Kessler was a huge high school and recruit and a preseason Heisman contender. I think he would do well in most offenses. Hackenburg is a big guy with a strong arm. He doesn't have a lot of talent around him, so he has struggled a lot in his career. But, if the key to making Riley/Langsahan's offense work is having a future NFL QB then I am not sure if I like that type of offense. I would rather have an offense that can make it work with solid and smart QB's.
  11. The first 3 TA interceptions were on 1st down, 2nd down, and 2nd down plays. I understand wanting to be balanced, but if you have a QB who is prone to mistakes, wouldn't you call plays that would limit his opportunity to make said mistakes? It's not like NU was down by a huge margin, or they had long yardages to gain on these plays either. Sometimes, playing conservative is the smart thing to do. Langsahan doesn't want to do that though and he's gonna throw it around all over the place on a cold and windy day.
  12. We moved the ball all game long except when Tommy got stupid and gave it back to Iowa. Just because Langsdorf did not do it the way to please you and others did not stop the offense from being productive. The goal of the offense is to score points. NU did rack up a bunch of yards, but it failed to make those yards matter with points. It wasn't like Tommy threw 4 INTs inside the Iowa 10 yard line. There was only one of those and that was on a chuck and prayer when Langsdorf allowed Tommy to do something stupid. If you have a QB who is prone to make mistakes, don't call plays where a big mistake can be made.
  13. NU never led at one point in that game. For 26 of the 30 minutes of the 2nd half, Iowa led by 11 points. NU was not threatening to win that game. Did the cold weather make it look like you were watching a different game?
  14. Stanford plays physical and tough, but Langsahan prefers finesse and outsmarting you with his great play designs. I don't see NU becoming Stanford unless there is a coaching change.
  15. Let me get this straight, so all the great play to put NU in position to win a bunch of close games this year was due to coaching, but when the games were actually lost, that is on the crappy talent and the crappy actions of the players. Just trying to figure this out.
  16. McCaffery has made them a lot more explosive this year, compared to past years. That guy is a freak.
  17. But why didn't we see these up and coming talent play this year? Cav selected his guys to start and stood by them the entire year. The only change he did make was put Sterup at guard at the end of the year.
  18. Riley is like the new wife who looks pretty and is nice to your friends and family, but at home she doesn't cook, clean, or has sex with you. After a year of that she says, don't worry, I will start cooking next year, but I still won't clean or have sex with you. Your previous wife was a raging bitch, but she at least cooked, cleaned, and occasionally would have sex with you. So, you still put up with the new wife wondering if her cooking will be any good, and dreaming of the days when she will clean the house and have sex with you.
  19. If you think Riley is going to try "something new" at age 63, you are sorely mistaken. He has been coaching this offense for 30 years, he's not going to do anything differently now.
  20. Read is like the employee in Office Space who has his desk moved to the basement. Of course, Read is making $500k per year, so I guess he is getting the last laugh on us fans.
  21. Huh? I never brought up Solich or Pelini. I can't give grades to the coaching staff on their performance this year?
  22. Yeah, I'm questioning that grade now. But, the offense was much better in the beginning of the season that I thought it would be. However, he probably deserves a D based on Illinois and Purdue alone.
