  1. Bumping this as it looks like Wisconsin is switching to Under Armour. I wonder how they will tweak things so NU and UW aren't twins anymore. David Weber ‏@DAWeber71 9m9 minutes ago @UniWatch UW Badgers switch to UA should be official by the end of the month. People I know in athletics say AD has called a mtg for 10/19.
  2. These 408 posts are getting real lame. We get it, Bo had some very bad games. Do we have to hear about it every time people try to make commentary about the CURRENT staff?
  3. You are making my point about "Cav is not new at this". I am saying there is a benefit about being at a program like Nebraska where you can recruit a lot of o-linemen. By having that much depth, it allows a coach to do things differently, and rotate o-linemen. It seems like Cav is just doing things the way he's always done things, just because that's what he does.
  4. I understand what other posters are saying. The people who say "let your best players play" have a point. I am just saying that there are benefits from rotating offensive linemen. It's not so cut and dry all the time.
  5. He should get an endorsement deal with Gold Bond. #swampass
  6. No problem. I think my points make sense. If others don't, oh well.
  7. I think you just summed up the majority of the threads for the next few years. couldn't agree more.408!!!
  8. If Cav is only going to play 5 o-linemen every game (outside blowouts and injuries) then there is no reason to carry 15-18 scholarship linemen. They might as well carry only 10-12 scholarship o-linemen and distribute those scholarships to other positions.
  9. My question for Cav would be why doesn't he rotate his linemen. Is it because he doesn't trust the backups or is it just something he's accustomed to doing at Oregon State and the NFL? My point is that Cav needs to realize that he's at Nebraska and he should be able to have more than 5 offensive linemen that he can be confident in playing.
  10. Could be worse. Like your sister having her wedding at 2:30 Saturday, October 10th! Lucky that I'm even showing up!Are you guys Nebraskans? I thought weddings on Husker Saturdays, especially home games were illegal in Nebraska.Born, raised and alumni. I've had now two weddings on game day this year. Obviously friends with no balls to tell the fiancé hell no to game day weddings. It's ok, I had 2 friends get married on game days back in 2003. What a bunch of pansies.
  11. Not subbing your offensive linemen is something NFL teams do out of necessity. Some colleges who can't recruit a lot of quality o-linemen will do that too. I would classify Oregon State under a college team that can't recruit a lot of quality o-linemen. Cav needs to realize that he is at Nebraska, where they have the ability to bring in over 15 scholarship linemen. Throw in quality walk-ons and there should be quality depth across all the o-line positions. Rotating in backup linemen adds to the quality of depth, and would give the coaches game film to teach the backups. Cav is hamstringing his own offensive line by only playing his top unit. It creates physical and mental fatigue, which can create penalties. Isn't NU worst in FBS in # of penalties? Oh yeah.
  12. But if 1 or 2 starters get injured, they aren't going to replace the whole starting line. I think most people are saying that there are worthy candidates to come in and play a few plays or a series, and give the starters a breather. Plus, watching from the sidelines is a good way for guys to observe the defense. Based on what? Recruiting rankings? I am guessing the people at practice probably have a better idea of who is worthy of PTI'm not basing my opinion on anything. I just find it odd that the coaches will rotate guys in at RB, WR, TE but not the o-line. Yes, those guys aren't doing the physical running that the skill positions are, but they are involved in "man to man" combat every play, which has to be tiring. We heard a lot of good things about Foster in fall camp, but he can't sniff the field because Cav doesn't do any substitution. Should TA be subbed when he's winded? Have the safeties been a part of a regular rotation? I just don't get why Cav is being questioned and not other position coachesDon't be stupid.

  16. Yup. It's a stupid topic we fans have dug deep to bitch about because some of you bitch about everything. I've watched football on every level for a long time and this is how it is done almost everywhere. If Pelini and staff did do a lot of rotating, you'd think we fans would not want to see it anymore considering all the inconsistency we've seen up front. You don't constantly rotate offensive linemen. Maybe a guy needs to tap for a few plays, but that should be it. Maybe Cav thinks these guys need to get their asses in shape a little bit. I've seen a few of our guys around here lately who don't look like football players, they look like professional eaters. I'd say the offensive line is looking like they are coming together a little bit and actually having some spots in games where they look very good. The run blocking is still a bit of a work in progress but this pass blocking seems far better than it has been in awhile. So if it's going better, and the players themselves aren't bitching about it, then maybe we ought to stop? Just a thought. I am sure the starters are happy with it, because they aren't the ones sitting on the bench. Yes, the backups could "work harder" to get the starting job and then they get to play, but to me the luxury of a college roster allows for more rotations and breathers for the #1 guys.
  17. OL rotation is uncommon in the NFL because NFL teams generally carry only 7 or 8 o-linemen on their 45 man game roster. In college, there are probably twice as many o-linemen suited up on a given gameday (yes, it is fewer for road games).
  18. 408 never allowed a game to be pushed back 20 minutes due to a hurricane thousands of miles away!!! Fire Mike Riley!!!
  19. My daughter's wedding .......on September 26th. Outside wedding, about 5:30PM, luckily clear skies but hotter than hell (pretty close to Tulsa OK). Looks like Forrest Gump wedding (movie). Anyway previous wedding time, my hotel room, ALoft Downtown Tulsa hotel, was not available for ESPNews .... thus withdrawal . However I taped it at my house. Good move on taping the daughter's wedding. You could have had someone FaceTime you during the ceremony.
  20. I didn't want to criticize Coach Cav for this, but looking at the philosophy, it just doesn't make any sense. 1) Starters aren't getting any rest during games, and that could lead to fatigue and/or injury 2) Backups aren't getting any in-game snaps, so they are less prepared if there is an injury to a 1st stringer 3) Backups aren't allowed to prove themselves in games, so there is no pressure for the starters, as long as they are doing good enough in practice 4) What is the need to carry 16 scholarship linemen if only 5 are going to play during a game?
  21. Damon Benning doesn't remember the exact words, but he swears that the words said by team recently is different than the one they said back then. Honestly, this is why I think it's weird the "fans" are trying to get the words right, and it's weird the "fans" are saying this prayer each week. It's a players thing. Let them own it. I don't think any fans actually *say* the players' prayer. It's a thread we've had on Husker gamedays here on HB for the past several years. Like any tradition anywhere, some people like it and participate. And some people don't. The players don't own the prayer. Just like they don't own the game itself. Fans are interested in these things. Or at least some are. Sorry, I just think it's weird. JMO. It's not a tradition to me, and I have been following the team for in some way since 1981. I realize that it's a more recent thing, so maybe that's why I don't see it as a tradition. Also, there were posters on here that said they were "saying the prayer" when it was played in the BYU Tunnel Walk. I said then, and I say it again now, I think it should belong to the players and kept in the locker room. I don't even think they players should have made it public. It's not that I am against prayer, I just think it's a players thing. Yes, we are fans, but we aren't players. EDIT: I will refrain for posting anything in any threads regarding the Husker Prayer. I am sure my opinions irk some people, and since the "prayer" is not my thing, I will just not comment on it, and leave my opinion to myself.
