Why would we offer him during his sophomore year of high school if it isn't going to be committable? You would think we would take a little more 'wait and see' approach if we're not totally sure of the kids talent and projection, especially for a sophomore.

I would bet a lot of money that if you did a study on popularity for the 'big 3', where the only participants were high school recruits, that Adidas would be the most popular right now.

I'm questioning if he's what we need at OT right now. I was kind of leaning that way too. What are your reasons? Seems to be a tweener that would be better suited inside, more of the same we already have on the roster. We need a guy that is a pure OT in a bad way. Side note: I think Jameis from last class is one of those guys. This guy looks like a pretty good RT prospect to me. Great run blocker with decent pass-blocking technique. He doesn't have the athleticism to be a LT though, so hopefully we can find a game changer there in this class.

Rumor on USC's 247 was that SC was actually still pursuing him pretty hard, but he was turned off by their depth at safety.

Scout article saying he listed Mich St. as his leader recently, but after visiting USC this last weekend and the comments he made about that visit it seems like he is headed to USC.

I really think this kid projects better as an OT/OG after watching his film.

I saw this tweet earlier. Why do people think he's talking about Bookie?Bookie recently said he had a top 5 or 6, but it's pretty well known that it's down to us and UCLA basically. Add in the fact that Tristan is good friends with him, and the bones emoji, it all adds up pretty clearly.

His skill set being .... size?I think you should take a look at his offer list I did - I just don't buy into the fact that because others have determined their program can take a gamble on a big kid that UNL is at that point. It's potentially a big waste of scholarship if we can get someone who has played the game for 4+ years and understands the game. One that can be continued on his football knowledge journey and not just start it. I don't want any of our coaches having to spend time explaining defense vs. offense instead of coaching and perfecting game day skills. Division 1 FB isn't the place to learn. We can agree to disagree on this, it's ok. Edit: if your friend jumps off a cliff do you jump off a cliff too? I mean, lets not pretend like we would actually be teaching the kid the difference between offense and defense. He's at IMG, the best possible situation to prepare high school athletes for what college is going to be like. You really think after spending two years there, this kid is going to be that far behind, if it all, a lineman coming in from any other place? Lets also visit the fact that he didn't play any snaps last year. Look at the two people who started infant of him. Broc Bando is coming here to play, and Robert Hainsey was a four-star that signed with Notre Dame. I don't think it can be denied that he would have started at just about any other high school in the country.

Agree to disagree That's fine. But, just remember one part of the OP. He has yet to play a single down of football. We know he is very large. We have seen a total of one snap at a camp where pretty much everyone admits the defender being blocked really wasn't very good....AND, he false started. Not sure how that isn't classified as a major project. I want to be clear by saying I never said he wouldn't be a project and I wouldn't be upset if we don't recruit him. Honestly, I'm not sure if we are in a position where we can risk the scholarship with the low numbers in this class. I was simply saying that the kid is super impressive strength/size wise and in that clip shows really high potential. Ill trust the coaches on this one all the way. If they offer and go after him hard, he must show big-time promise. If not, we may not be able to spend the time developing him that he needs.

Not to be negative....but....that clip really doesn't show much. The kid rushing the QB really didn't do much. I don't think I'm in love with the kid (i know you didn't say it), but I do believe there is a lot to like about the potential this guy has. One thing the video does show is his strength obviously. Seems pretty realistic that as long as this kid can get his hands on a d lineman he is going to win more often than not, and with the wingspan of a 6'9" frame, he will be able to do that pretty easily.

Got his fourth star from Rivals today. They listed us, Oregon, and UCLA as schools receiving his early attention. I think he could be a big-time field OLB in this 3-4 that has great pass-rushing ability too.

Manny Allen (recent USC decommit) will be in attendance.

Bookie was seen as the better player all throughout big red weekend last year. I thought Darnay didn't make it up for that. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember seeing him in any of the videos either.

I don't think you remove that scholarship. That kid is raw from what I've heard and could be a great candidate by the end. I think in the end you utilize oversigning at the DL position if one of those big name guys wants N. The fact that you have a guy in Masry that is committed right now does relieve some of the pressure of it being a dire need and really allows for us to be selective. So where does Masry project in this scheme then? I've never seen any highlights of him. Is he athletic enough at his weight that he could slide out to DE or do we try to bulk him up more and turn him into a mountain at NT? I think Trout has great upside as a DE in this 3-4. Yeah, he's a little heavier, but his athleticism could make him a great fit. Based on everything people have been saying, and going off of what Calvin Avery has already said, Avery seems like a perfect fit as a squatty 2-gap NT.
