  1. That was a nice summary of AAU schools still left, Woody. Thanks for that. When you say 'splash', though, which of those left do you think is still a 'splash'? G. Tech I think would be good, and sounds like it could definitely be the next member, if the rumor mill is correct at all. Not sure whether you would call that a 'splash' though. Nonetheless, will definitely be interesting. I think we're likely days or weeks away from moves being made at this point, rather than months.
  2. Two things: 1. Shark - Academics plays an important part in Delaney and the Presidents/Chancellors' thinking, whether we like it or not. For that reason alone, the likelihood that VT will sniff the B1G is very remote. FSU's academics have actually improved quite a bit since they joined the ACC 20 years ago, and for that reason, I could see the discussion, but again, it's probably far down on Delaney's list of potentials right now. OK and TX aren't going anywhere without some agreement likely worked out ahead of time regarding the Grant of Rights to the conference of their Tier 1 and rights. So the likelihood of snagging any of those football 'bluebloods' is pretty slim, in my estimation at this time. Not that it couldn't change, and some of this seems to change on a dime, but that's what it seems like. 2. From what I can tell, it sounds like the winds have started to shift yet again. From what I'm seeing, it sounded like UVA was the main target, and UNC or GTECH would be #16. But something evidently shifted at UVA, and the assumption I've seen in what I've followed is that some type of headbutting occurred between the Pres and the Board there. From my understanding the Pres was ousted and then brought back, so the relationship is somewhat strained anyway. Not 100% on that, but from what folks have said, it certainly sounds plausible. But it also sounds like the B1G has shifted at least one target, and that instead of UVA, they're targeting BC. Not sure how I feel about that, but there are certainly some potential positives. BC actually has a better track record in athletics, for the most part, than UVA would have. Would bring a another major TV market in. Those two would certainly be interesting, though it certainly seems as though GTECH would kind of be left on an island, even though the stretch from MD to GA really isn't that far. Again, will be interesting to see how everything plays out.
  3. Meh. I think had Rex been in the whole game against Iowa, you would have seen explosive numbers too. I think Rex is ready to take out the yearning to play he's had all season on the Wisky defense, and I think his numbers will reflect that. If Rex gets on track like I think he might, we could see a pretty decent lead before half, as long as we don't shoot ourselves in the foot (big as long, I know). And thanks, JTrain. Not much could get me to change my background from the Huskerboard 2012 schedule, but that did it. Probably use that one at home too.
  4. Lots of things I would take care of for the money. Take a certain percentage and invest it, take a certain percentage and give it to the church, and then think about a few things to buy. But even a $100K if I get selected from here woudl go a long way. Good luck to all who purchased a ticket! (We have one. Doubt I'll purchase another before the drawing tonight.)
  5. As much as I don't like Colorado, I hope they hire Mangino. Been waiting for him to get another head coaching position after the job he did at Kansas, and the number they pulled on him down there. (I don't believe for a minute that the school actually had anything to fire him for.) Ridiculous, and as much as I hated it for Turner, I'm glad they haven't had success since Mangino's been gone. Serves the AD and the boosters right. As much as it pains me to say it, I hope Mangino can get that job and do well.
  6. When we started this season, did anyone think we'd say, at any point... in any game... a 20 point lead for the Huskers? Wow. Team has really come alive in the second half tonight.
  7. Picked us to win the game, but picked Iowa against the spread. I think we cover fairly easy anyway, so I understand your point, but at least the guy wasn't picking Iowa to win the game outright.
  8. I think Knapp has an EXCELLENT point here about Eric Olson. Look at Olson's article and then look at Shatel's column both talking about the SAME conversation (Shatel notes that he and Olson were the two that were with Bo right outside the elevator after the press conference), and look at the tenor/tone of both articles. Shatel's was a LOT more matter of fact, reporting what Bo and the players said about it, whereas Olson's came across a LOT more as critical, almost hyper-critical, of the incident. Two gentlemen, hearing the same comments from Bo, and writing two articles that give such a vastly different tone/tenor/take on the situation. Yeah, this thing got blown WAY out of proportion. Glad Harvey had Bo's back on this, and if Olson had been able to get to TO, I'm sure TO would have had his back as well. Getting a tad bit ridiculous in how minute the microscope is going regarding these situations.
  9. Very much this. I still miss the Big 8 days, but even the Big 8 teams weren't the same after we moved to the Big XII. There wasn't any going back after it happened, and Texas had just gained too much control for comfort. The move was right at the time and still is right. Still getting used to the schools, but in 10 years or so, it'll be old hat, and I'm sure I'll feel more comfortable with the surroundings.
  10. There was a linesman standing right on the goal line with a perfect view of the play and the ball. The main camera view that we could see in the replays was not shooting straight down the goal line, it was somewhat to the infield side of the goal line,,,,causing a small degree of paralax....in that case, I go with the man and his eyes that are in the right position...but it was hella close either way....and I'd be screaming mad if I were a Penn State fan.... EXACTLY what I was saying during the game. The view was NOT right down the line, and yet the announcers were trying to make it out as though it was. Perspective in that situation becomes VERY deceiving. I agree, it was close, but without conclusive proof, you don't overturn that call.
  11. Prayers out there for you, bud. I'll see if anyone I know has any feelers for you. Got a quite a few contacts here in town, though most don't work in that feeling, but you never know what a friend, or a friend of a friend is able to find. I've been doing temp work on the state level for a few years now, trying to find a permanent position, so I know at least some of the trepidation you feel. Hang in there, let God lead you, and you'll find that path.
  12. Yeah, I think anyone trying to measure from their own perspective isn't ever going to have a full picture on how loud the stadium is. We've had conversations about it this year about how loud the stadium sounded on TV v. radio v. being there in person. It's just tough to tell. I agree with the situation noise statements quite a bit, but to just make a blanket statement and say 'it's not loud' doesn't tell the whole story either. Been going to games at least since the late 70s (first time I can remember Dad taking me - he was in pharmacy school at UNMC at the time, and I can remember going with him to a game - I was thinking it was Oklahoma, but I can't be sure), and the stadium has pretty much ALWAYS been that way. Sitting in the student sections over the years, I can remember some really LOUD games, and some that weren't quite so much. But through it all, when the team needed it, and when the game warranted it, it always seems like the crowd delivers, in my opinion. And I have seen, at various times, the noise level make a difference, regarding needing a timeout, regarding it taking more time to get the play called, and regarding false starts. Again, situational, but I've heard it VERY loud at times. Night games, for whatever reason (some would say the bluehairs would stay home, that may play a factor, but who knows) seem to me to have always carried the loudest levels. Seems to always carry that type of environment to it. Anyway, my perception. Take it FWIW. That and 50 cents a dollar, two bucks, five bucks (depending on where you get it) could get you a coffee/espresso/latte/mocha/coffeedrinkofchoice.
  13. Huge (HUGE) difference between asking the question regarding his sideline behavior, and carrying it a step, or several steps, too far. If the guy could have held off and ONLY asked about the sideline demeanor, that would be one thing. But to criticize Bo by calling him out for it, saying that isn't the Nebraska way of doing things, and saying he wouldn't send his kid to play for them is over the top obnoxious, and no longer represents a valid inquiry into the topic. It's trolling, baiting, whatever you want to call it, and Bo responded to it appropriately. FWIW, what Bo does in terms of discipline with his players and how he wants to handle it is fine with me. As he said, and it's pretty obvious when they talk about him and in the way they play for him, they would indeed go through a brick wall for Bo, as he would for them. His demeanor has indeed gotten better over time. The fact that he's still roundly criticized for it, to my way of thinking, is more a facet of the media wanting to continue to make a big story out of something that isn't nearly as big and bad as they want it to be. At this point, I, and I think many others, tune this type of criticism out, because it has gone over the top.
  14. I like the new and old logos. Don't see any problems with either one. I actually think the script is much cleaner than the cursive ever was. And lay off Lil Red. Good grief. He's not, nor was he ever intended for grown adults. That much is pretty obvious. He's meant for the kids, and most of the kids I've seen love Lil Red. He and some of the cheerleaders came to my daughter's cheerleading clinic on their last week (it's through the YMCA, but they actually associate themselves with the Husker brand in the clinic), and the girls loved him. What people won't find to complain about. Seriously. And just to brighten this thread up a bit:
  15. Under, think we go hog-wild on him. 40-45 % Over under on the times we see split screen watching Bo attempting to get him while he's conversing with someone else on the sideline - 30
  16. That was my thought. Because the student manager wasn't doing EXACTLY what someone else told him to do. o.O
  17. Job interview in twenty minutes at the place I've been working. Thoughts and prayers appreciated, my friends!

  18. Kind of makes me thing of the legendary story, supposedly of a conversation between Churchill and Lady Astor, though I attempted to and couldn't find verification on that, that goes like this: Churchill: Would you sleep with me for 50,000 pounds? Lady Astor: Of course! Churchill: How about ten pounds? Lady Astor: What kind of lady do you think I am? Churchill: We've already established that, now we're just haggling over price. If they're already willing to give up their natural home field advantage, why not take the best $$ you can get for it at this point? And regarding trying to get it in Lincoln, my guess would be that either it would end up costing a boatload (a lot more than what we've had to pay to other teams) or they simply wouldn't agree to give us another home date. Will be interesting to see how it all works out. My wife and I would probably consider the trip to KC, but NOLA wouldn't fit in the budget.
  19. Yeah, Comish, I remember being a part of that thread. I just can't see the Regents going for it. That said, it's already been stated that beer sales will be allowed, at least for hockey games, at the new UNO arena. So I guess never say never. But then, that's a little different situation too, considering they already have had beer sales at hockey games at the CLink, and I think the concern there is trying to put the stuff back in the bottle once its already out, so to speak. Considering we've never had alcohol sales at Husker bball games, I could see the Regents not wanting to start. So yeah, doubtful the Regents are going to allow it.
  20. This is a test of wills on both sides. Sounds like things could be coming together (talks due to resume today), and that maybe a little movement on both sides will help to solidify things. I'm not a Bettman fan, but he's done what he needs to do to make sure the NHL (read the smaller market teams for the most part) is financially stable going forward. Fehr is as much at fault on this as Bettman is. Never been a fan of Fehr's. Thought the guy was an obstructionist, and I really soured on baseball because of the structure of the sport right now. Love that they expanded the postseason, but when you start every season out with a much bigger disparity between teams than any other major sport, it makes the game nigh unwatchable. And a LOT of that has to do with the way the sport is structured right now, and how the CBA is structured. I'm a big hockey fan, regardless, and I'll likely be back regardless. But I agree, this is absolutely a black eye on the NHL. Should have never come down to this, but both sides didn't start putting in the real work until it came down to the last minute and then some. Stupid on both sides part, not the way you grow the game in this country. Makes everyone associated look bad.
  21. I'd like to see them win it out. While I've never been a fan of many of the fans of the team, especially in the 90s (went to law school in Kansas in the mid to late 90s, and many of their fans were off the charts obnoxious), and have always thought Snyder a bit of a (insert favorite nasty term here), Snyder has seemed to mellow somewhat over time, and certainly there is somewhat of a feel-good story aspect to this team right now. Hope Klein wins the Heisman for them, kid seems to be the type that you'd like to root for. That, and it may be that I have a soft spot for anyone that isn't Texas doing very well in that conference, football-wise. Still have an attachment to it to an extent, even though we aren't there anymore. (Don't take that wrong, I don't WANT to be back there, and am VERY supportive of our move. I think it was and is the best move for us as a school.)
