  1. Actually I think they should run the Rextol in short yardage . Line up in the pistol have Tmart walk off to the side as if he is changing the play, then do a quick snap to Rex. Might work once.
  2. That I did not know. I stand corrected. The only thing I can go by is the media and what I can remember.
  3. Tmart is a homerun hitter. He will strike out a lot but if they make a mistake it's a homerun. Feast or famine. I just hope they cut the turnovers down.
  4. Actually it sounds like Evans will slide down to Nickel and Green will play corner. A lot of the younger players have not learned the defense well enough to play the nickel and dime. They tried having Green play a little nickel awhile back but moved him back to corner. At that time they said it would probably better if the players learn one position well before trying another. I am guessing the nickel can be complicated. The dime less so IMO. I thought Thorell did okay at the dime. Mitchell is a straight up DB and way to light to play nickel. Not sure about Washington either way. I disagree with the thought that the 2 LB's have better coverage skills then Blatchford. I do agree that Blatchford is not the fastest. We will see what happens. I am not worried as much about the secondary as much as I am about the LB's. David had a few busts. Fish is rusty and doesnt have a lot of experience. Compton is hurt. Depth is an issue. As far as depth at the OL. I would go back to previous posts. They don't have adequate numbers at the OL position in recruiting classes of yore. They are trying to rectify that. They only had 2 OL recruits in the class that are seniors now...Burkes who is gone and Marcel Jones who has had back issues. The next class they had a juco (Henry) who is gone, Grant never made it here, Baker switched to DL because that was the priority back then and Thompson. So that's only 2 players out of 2 classes. That's your upper classmen. Really you should have a bunch of upper classmen starting and and the young guys that are playing now should be providing depth and learning. But we didnt have the numbers and that's why we are seeing a bunch of sophomores and freshmen playing. It also didn't help that they didn't have a huge bunch of walk on OL in the program either. That's some of the issue IMO.
  5. I think one of the problems from yesterday was blocking at the second level. We had times where the blocking was really good to start, but then we had nobody to get to that second level and stop the backers from making tackles. There were also a couple of perimeter runs yesterday that failed because of poor blocking by a wide receiver. In many cases, one block can mean a four yard gain or a 10+ yard gain. I agree. Although I though Enunwa did a good job. I would also say that Taylor needs to look for those cutback lanes. You won't always get the edge so if he sees that we don't have numbers he should cut up field. He did on one TD, but he could of done it a couple of other times. 2-3 yds is better than 0 or negative yards. He should also eat the ball if the pitch isn't there. Of course it's easy to say that. practice practice practice.
  6. By now everyone should realize I'm close to this situation, I'm not CJ or RP, and from my understanding of what's going on is the NCAA Eligibility Center made an error from the start thinking these were online/computer based courses and are now trying to say they don't think they were "core-curriculum" (last time I looked Alg, Spanish, and Physics were in the 16 core courses required for NCAA Eligiblity according to their website). Also in the state of Texas a student, depending on District, can take as many classes in the summer that the school allows for credit. Not to get into too much detail, it's all riding on the appeal from the school in question, Nebraska can't do anything. A good thing here is the School District is watching because it feels no wrong has been done. I know some will say "if CJ would have....." but that's not the point anymore. CJ woke up late like most kids and has done nothing but bust his ass to correct his mistake, IMO he has, and because somebody at N.E.C assumed his classes last year were online he gets heldup. Got to love America were murderers, rapist, and other prisoners can get a free college education from tax payers but some kids can't even get student loans or get cleared to attend college on a scholorship! This is a little off topic but kind of applies to your point about free education for those who don't follow the rules. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/california-law-opens-private-funding-for-illegal-immigrant-students-public-funding-could-follow/ To your point, I wonder if CJ should sue the clearinghouse. I believe we had a couple of student athletes go that route. Of course that takes money and college is expensive enough the way it is.
  7. On 2nd run through I really liked what Ankrah did. He's a good fit for the b1g.
  8. Great point. Who needs his big run threat? Carnes has "it" and he's ready to go. Lets just pray TMart doesn't go down. We will be in trouble. If someone took an "it" factor away from Carnes today I sure as heck missed it. He wasn't given a chance to show anything today. I'd say the opposite: he was given the chance to struggle. I guess they really wanted to work on Brion with the option game, which is why almost every play we called with him was option left or option right. What I take away from today: Brion is not good at running the option. Would like to get the chance to see more of him in the next few games. Not for the sake of watching him personally, for the sake of preparing him in the event that Taylor goes down. I posted in another thread about this, but a surprise series in the 2nd quarter would do well. I just see anything new/different/better from Tmart in this first game. Exactly what is his upside? Did he magically become a better leader and passer over the summer? I do recall one play that he took sack rather then forcing it, so that was good. Due to storming, the t.v. was on and off, but I assume that all the players around Carnes were equally young/inexperienced? One or two of the options plays that Carnes pitched were scarey bad. But two drives hardly are indicative of his capability as a QB. Agree. Carnes is not an option guy. They need to run some packages that work for him. Unfortunately in that stage of the game you can't throw too much. I think they could of gotten him in a lot earlier though. As far as Tmart, I don't think he panicked or froze as much. As the annoucer said he's got to quit staring down the receivers and get in better throwing position with his feet. His footwork is crap at times. One thing I think we will see in the bigger games are split screens and bubble screens.
  9. Watched the game again and the FB blocking on the options seems to be an issue. I don't think Legate had his best game. TE's had some trouble at times too. Point is the whole O has a lot of work to do. Line definitely does need work. long way to go. Mostly mental not physical. Good things = A couple of times in the 2 tight sets they had very good plays. Good point on the play calling. They didnt run any counters, very very few play actions. They pretty much played it straight.
  10. Agree that Wiscy looked vulnerable on the edge. They did get some penetration at times and hold the line of scrimmage though. They like to blitz it looks like, so that might come down to a guessing game.
  11. I am satisfied. Hi Def. Informative half time show. Good Booth. They need to be more timely coming back from breaks.
  12. I think the D could be really fast in the the nickel where Stafford is in, PJ is in, Evans is the nickel, Green and Dennard the CB's. I think that will be the money unit at the end of the year.
  13. Green did get picked on but that will help him down the road. Except for 2 plays I thought he did all right. I like Cooper. Should up a couple of times on ST. Man, Stafford is a terror. I don't think they ran much 3 wr sets which may be why we didn't see Turner more?
  14. A lot of it is at the micro level still. We had one post route in the first half that was a sure TD that Taylor threw behind the receiver and he dropped it. The middle of the field was open on that play. A nice playcall in the context of what we were showing to that point. The play Rex ran into Taylor on the WR screen pass........Rex never should have had protection responsibilities to that side. That has to be a protection call to protect that playside with a slide protection and let Rex take backside. It doesn't really even matter if that backside gets blocked, as long as you get the hands down on the playside. The blocking schemes on those option plays. A good option offense has to have several blocking schemes to handle that playside Safety coming down in the box. You can't give up force to the playside backer and let that Safety run free, or as we saw you don't get numbers in the option game and we spent most of the first half in that kind of situation. We made one adjustment on that here in the second half on Taylor's long run by bringing motion back towards the formation, which was nice. It's little things on most plays, but it is a lot of little things and it is at every position right now. I think what upsets me most of all, though, is that we're not winning more one on one battles. Yikes. That's way above me. Thanks for the info. Glad to hear about the adjustment.
  15. I vote Cam Def MVP and Stafford number 1 newcomer.
  16. Agree they are young. They should get better. They need to get better. While it was not pretty they still put 40 points on the board and some decent numbers. Granted it was all big plays.... Thought Kug and Kelly did a nice job calling the game. I like Kelly's insight. I think he nailed it when he talked about blocking on the 2nd level. Really like the BTN. Lots of coverage to all teams. Studio gives good coverage to all teams, not just top dogs and high pop states. Fairly clean game from the offensive penalty wise. Cleanup the fumbles on the pitches and a few better passes will help too.
  17. 1) I thought Roach had a nice game for his first official action 2) Defense has some really nice depth at the front 4 and Db's. 3) Offense - feast or famine. I think they are working in the younger players slowly at wr.. Disappointed that they didnt get more snaps in for the backup QB's. 4) BK didnt have the best game. Enunwa had a really nice game. 5) Line - work in progress. Probably a year away. Lets see how much improvement they can make during the season. 6) While we had some big plays on the option are QB's/backs don't run it very well yet. Takes lots of practice though....
  18. I think Mike Minter is a smart man. He is giving his son a chance to see if he likes living in Lincoln. It's a great place to live. It also makes it easier for the coaches to evaluate him. Would love to see him come back some day as a coach.
  19. This statment makes it obvious you have no clue what he actually does. That was a bit of a head-shaker for me, too. Not sure where that criticism even comes from. I have been critical of Jamrog because of some boneheaded things he has done and said since getting here, and certainly his requirement that players call him "Coach" and his headset are just a few of the things that make him an oddball character. That being said, as an administrator he has been alright, and he actually took the time to respond to some critical emails after we announced some future schedules filled with patsy games. One of the first acts when he got here was to throw the previous scheduling/schedulers under the bus because they filled it with some easy games. There were direct quotes where he took shots at people like Tim Cassidy because of how the upcoming years looked, and here is today announcing some future non-conference schedules that are at best, on par with those that he inherited. Again, kind of goes back to the PR campaign waged when we transitioned to Pelini as our coach, everything and anything from the previous regime needed to receive the "slash and burn" treatment, because as we all know, not only was Bill Callahan and his staff bad a coaching, but they also performed abortions on the side and volunteered as puppy killers at the Lincoln pound. Yep, a group of baby and puppy killing no good people who couldn't coach worth a lick. Somebody get it! I agree with the fact the scheduling is weak but thats only a small part of what he actually does and its by far his largest criticism because its the most public. The reality is in the scheduling aspect he's more of a middle man. He makes the contacts to see who will listen but he doesn't really get to set the offer being made. He then has to spin what ever is given to him and see if he can make it work. His bashing of Cassidy was unfair because Steve P was the one who controlled the offers and who would work in the scheduling. Not a lot of that has changed. He's give a budget based on the team and unfortunately its pretty hard to get teams like Boise State to play for what we offer. One of the things that TO continually talks about is his frustration of teams to want so much to come play at NU. He has admitted he's been be somewhat reluctant or at the very least slow to adjust his thinking when it comes to that. That has hurt scheduling. At the same time I see where it comes from because you can't lose money to play someone either or at the very least you cant damage your budget. Besides the reality is that we could probably schedule UNK and it would still sell out so why cave to the high 6 or 7 figures to get teams that aren't that much better here. That being said the real meat of Jamrog's job (probably 95% or more) does nothing with scheduling. It has more to do with logistics which is a nightmare with the numbers he has to deal with both team and prospect wise. He also is very key with walkons as well as instate recruiting and record compliance. Look at the number of Nebraska kids on the 2 deep. Many of the relationships that got those here started with Jamhrog. They had Jamrog on Big Red Wrapup the other day and he did a good job. Talked about some of the travel changes in the B1G. Trying to identify the best places to stay and squad restrictions. I think the Big 12 had it right in the senior trip. Also I don't understand why the b1g would limit squad size for home games in regards to hotel. Regardless he had some interesting things to say. I liked Cassidy and wish he wouldn't of left.
  20. 71 Huskers had 4 all americans 7 1st team big 8 players Heisman winners Outland trophy winners Lombardi winners The way I look at is when you try to measure 'greatest ever', your not trying to project who would win between the two, I think you are trying to measure their greatest in that particular era. I think the '71 Huskers had the largest greatness. They played THE GAME of the Century. They had all sorts of star power. They have a signature play and a signature drive to win the game with a late score. Often your adversary defines how great you are ('Unbreakable'). Oklahoma had a GREAT team and deserved it's own greatness. 95 team was great but Florida was anti climatic. There were no games that really defined the 95 Huskers. The signature play from that game was in the 3rd quarter and Florida had given up. Can't remember much else from that game. I remember more plays from the 71 game! I also recognize that whatever era you were raised in is most likely the era which will have your greatest team ever. It's all a matter of perspecitve
  21. I also think the coaches did a better job with the depth chart this year in reducing the 'ORs'. One thing I noted is that they went beyond a 2 deep and listed 70 players. I believe this would be your travel squad and that I also appreciate.
  22. A 300lbs boulder of muscle. Choi is one of those freakishly strong kids who has gotten better with time in football. I have also heard that Choi is one of the stongest players on the team. Could be short arms though.... I was surprised to see Thompsen at tackle and Santos at MLB. Of course the Santos thing might be insurance only.
