  1. I will go with Mike Brown on Defense as no one has named a Db yet. He was a guy that could make the secondary calls for the D and made plays. We need someone who can get us lined up right. Then on offense most every position covered except we need another OT. Problem is outside of Wiegert who do you pick? Best I can come up with is Carl Nicks? Trying to think of guys that are good in pass-pro and still do some run blocking...Nebraska seems a bit low on the OT all-stars... We are good at OG and Center though!
  2. You can't please everyone. If we would of hired Mickey Joseph there would of been people saying well he's a Nebraska alum why don't they hire outside the family! M.J has no O.C. experience we are power 5 we shouldn't be in the business of training coordinators! It goes on and on. Fact is nobody is perfect. I would of been fine with Joseph, Lubick,Helfrich etc etc. I look at the positives and let time take care of the rest... Good,bad, indifferent ,meh,solid. Who knows. I will say this. Management likes employees that don't cause problems! If you know the guy there is some safety & comfort level in that Frost knows Lubick isn't going to be a loose cannon. I am not in anyway referring to Walters either. Now Eichort/Riley/Pelini I would be.
  3. I like the Lubick hire. There is continuity to it. Lubick doesn't have to learn terminology. He already knows all the concepts and what adjustments to make against opponents when they switch things up. Since he did some consultant work for us he already has a bit of familarity with our personnel. He should be able to hit the ground running. He coached at Washington so he may have some fresh ideas to add. He is a guy that will recruit and has been recognized as a good WR coach. Sounds like a good solid hire!

  5. Lubick checks all the boxes. We need a WR coach. We need a passing coordinator since Austin is the new run coordinator. And it helps that he knows the Frost offense. He's available. He has been doing analyst work for us so he is familiar with the issues. I have seen some suggestions that Held be the passing coordinator and while he could do it I think he has enough on his plate with being the recruiting coordinator? Or is recruiting coordinator an empty title when it comes to today's world with the recruiting support staff that we have? The Keith Williams thing doesn't check the passing coordinator box and he would have to learn the offense.

  9. This was very enlightening. Thank you. After reading this and the subsequent posts...To summarize it sound like Snyder would be a coach in waiting similar to what could be proposed for Lubick. In the short term Snyder run the position group in the film room and do the planning and direct the G.A. Frost or the G.A would then coordinate in game and in practice. Eventually Snyder is on the field if Becton leaves in the future. ST/TE coach is a good combination.

  14. I am in total agreement. It started with Pederson. Solich tried to improve recruiting by making staff changes but the new staff never got a chance to proove themselves. Playcalling didn't change too much because it takes a couple of recruiting cycles to tweak your roster. It wasn't so bad either. They won 10 games!
  15. I think this makes great sense to do. It sounds like Coach Walters wants to be a H.C. and has been interviewing with different places the past couple of years. So this is a proactive move to bring in a guy who can be an analyst and then take over the OC/WR spot when Walters get his gig. It saves the trouble of gearing up for an O.C. search every year and he is already on staff and is familiar with personel/culture/offense etc etc. Also makes sense if he has been doing some consulting work for Nebraska in the past which I read somewhere...
  16. Sean Snyder? Now that's interesting. That could be a steal. Also think Dan Jackson would be a really good add due to his relentless recruiting work. I think Jackson and Held are similar with how hard they recruit and the ties that they have.
  17. I think the biggest mistake was detroying Nebraska's identity and basically starting from scratch. I think Bo was close but he couldn't get over the hump and was embarrased by Wisconsin in the B1G title game. That was a major hit. Then the apparent rift between he and the AD made it look like he was a walking dead man as a coach. That hurt recruiting. Bo was volatile and the program reflected it. The Riley stint was short but it was a 3-year throwaway as they started over again. (This time I think that was a good decision) I think Frost will get there. Just have to give it time.
  18. It could be Dawson is already hired. (i have no idea but I would wager he has been.) I don't think it matters in the short term whether it's announced or not especially during the dead period. There's a lot of background work he could be doing right now like reviewing film of the current offers for his position group and determing who he likes. Getting certified so that he can get on the road to recruit when the time comes. Getting a residence & moving. I am sure they are not sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Plus the February sigining date is not that critical anymore. Also they can get fill-in guys to recruit on the road on a temporary basis if a full-time coach is unable. I would think job transition more than qualifies. We have done it in the past with grad assistant Tavita under Riley. Plus the job has to remain open for a certain length of time I think? Can anyone expound on that?
  19. Just to be clear four GA's can perform on-field coaching while an analyst cannot. All they can do is charting. We do have a GA that works with special teams however I am in the camp of having a full-time coach be a ST coordinator. That's why they get paid the big bucks. I don't think it's a problem to load this on a position coach. I think it works great to have the TE coach do it but it doesn't always work that way. The GA would assist.
  20. I can understand that as well. I think having Coach Brown at UNL is a win-win in either capacity.

  22. So I would put Mickey Joseph in charge of WR's and I would make Helfrich OC/TE coach. Or perhaps CO-OC with Joseph in charge of run game and Helfrich passing with individual coaching remaining as stated above. Coach Joseph
  23. I really like Lynum. To me he is similar to Clark and Newsome. They are big rangy physical corners.
