  1. http://btn.com/2014/07/30/john-papuchis-qa-we-have-a-very-talented-group/ Just a short Q&A form the BTN's Tom Dienhart. Nothing earth shattering here. Paps is pretty happy with the D line, especially the ends, but would like to build depth. He thinks the linebackers are going to be a good group. Bando is pretty versitile and Rose is becoming a leader. The biggest question obviously is in the secondary, and more specifically the corner position. There doesn't seem to be any real standouts except the guys with experience. It appears the the defense is taking the same approach as the offense with less is more. They are focusing on what the guys do well and they are going to build on that.

  3. Here's the deal--with my Television provider (Verizon FiOS), they have BTN On-Demand for the on-demand service (read: NOT the website) and all of the programming they've had on the network, including 2012 season football games, are available for all of the schools... ...except Nebraska. Additionally, all of the B1G schools have their own individualized folder on the FiOS on-demand network with content related to their school (e.g. 2012 season games, Icons shows, best games)... ...except Nebraska. So I'm asking if folks that have BTN via their television provider can help me out and check their on-demand service (again--not the website, but their television provider's on-demand service) and let me know if they have the following: a) Nebraska-related content b) a Nebraska-specific folder with content Silly, I know, but it would help me figure out if this is a nation-wide/network thing, or if this is a localized issue that I need to get with the local Verizon execs about.
  4. An interesting article from Penn State blogger Ryan Murphy about the BTN and how its role, now that it's available across the nation, could grow in importance significantly for everyone following these schools: Right now, Tier 3 games may be stuff like Arkansas State or Southern Miss this year, that if ABC/ESPN does not pick up, the BTN gets. ABC/ESPN gets both Tier 1 and 2 currently, but the media contracts are up in 2014-2015 or so, which means the planning will be happening soon, if not already. But this also feeds into something I've touched on before--the need for television 'inventory', if you will, or the number of games the BTN can show to expand its importance and audience (and thus, ad revenues and DoNU's coffers). The only way to expand beyond current inventory is to...well...expand. And the article surmises that... Which kind of rolls nicely into my point about FSU and the Big 10--FSU to the Big 10 would provide the BTN lucrative Florida media markets, and an expansion of the role the BTN plays would help generate significant revenue increases for the conference members, and enough to help a certain panhandle school in Florida fight back against the whole of the SEC that keeps undercutting them on talent and facilities. There's a lot more to read at the Nittany Lions Den on this subject, including author Ryan Murphy's thoughts on what the Big 10 should do if the ACC melts down.
  5. All-- Just saw this when doing my routine search in my DVR guide for all things Nebraska--BTN is going to show one of the Nebraska @ tOSU games on April 17th at 3:00pm via their 'Student U' broadcast initiative. I have no clue which game will be shown or recorded, so of course, it's imperative that the Fighting Erstads win all three so we know for sure that the game being shown on delay next week will be a 'Husker win. But just FYI, for all the baseball people.
  6. Folks-- Was going through the schedule, and I noticed that the BTN is starting to put more baseball and softball games onto its schedule, but they're using the 'Student U' tool (student-run broadcasts to give kids experience) to do this. Of note, Michigan and Michigan State had multiple games (baseball and softball) on TV over the weekend, while DoNU only had the one Friday night game. Considering how popular Nebraska baseball (and softball) is, my question is why we're not jumping on this opportunity to get more Nebraska baseball on during the day using the 'Student U' tool. Is this because we're n00bs to the Big 10 and need to be fully vested before we can use this option? Is our AD asleep at the wheel on this? Or is there some plausible explanation (e.g. ramp-up costs on campus, hardware/equipment limitations, baseball is a subscription cash cow on Huskers.com) that's preventing us from getting these games on the BTN? Frankly, I think we're missing a big opportunity here to get exposure for our men and women. Yeah, production values may not be as great as the 'official' BTN broadcasts, but we're on national television with live events--that counts for something. And when you're competing against ACC, Big XII, and SEC schools who are having whole series and multiple games/conference broadcast every weekend, we should be doing everything within our power to get our program (one of the top 2 in the Big 10) more television exposure.
