  1. Pretty straightforward question, but note - I'm not asking who YOU loved more, but who you think the fans as a whole loved more. For obvious reasons we can't include Tommie Frazier, hence the odd cutoff. I'm pretty sure I got everyone who started a majority of games in a season. Guys like Sam Keller get in because he played most of 2007 before getting injured. Cody Green doesn't get in because he started only four games spread out over a couple of years during the Martinez era. Tommy Armstrong isn't in because he's started three games in his career. Let me know if there's someone I missed.
  2. Congrats!! / Looks like this is a list put together by the B1G bloggers, Adam Rittenberg and Brian Bennett.
  3. Our 2018 Big Ten opener will be at Michigan http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20131016/SPORTS0201/310160079/Michigan-announces-Big-Ten-football-schedules-2018-2019 I will post the rest as it comes out. Michigan was the first to announce so far
  4. “He has the best hands on the team — best hands,” Enunwa said. Nuff said
  5. In a game that should be pretty one sided, just a few things pop into my mind. On defense, identify Akeem Hunt and punish him. He's their best play maker and can be explosive with the ball. Shut him down and then create havoc for a freshman QB making his first start. Interior presence opposite VV. Going Thad shows up, but I don't care if its him, Curry, whomever someone needs to play big going forward. LBs continue to improve in space. Young teams need to continue making baby steps forward throughout the year today is another step. Offensively, a strong running game alone can put this game away. 300 yards should be achieved. When the passing game is called for, open it up looking at those 15+ yard throws. Finally injury free. No need to use the bye week to heal injuries from today. Hope it goes as expected and is impressive our else we get to look forward to another two weeks of derp hell. GB f'ing R!!!!!
  6. This is blatantly stolen from Hail Varsity's mailbag, but it's a great question from a Husker fan: What would the Husker Horseshoe be worth if were to be auctioned? Would it crack $10,000? $50,000? More? Less? If, arguendo, it were to be auctioned today, I can imagine a pretty significant bidding war developing between some of our wealthier Husker fans (sadly, not I).
  7. Nebraska (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) travels to West Lafayette Saturday to take on the Purdue Boilermakers (1-4, 0-1 Big Ten). Nebraska is coming off a 39-19 victory against Illinois. Purdue is coming off of a bye week but the last time we saw the Boilermakers they were demolished by Northern Illinois, 55-24. This is the first road game for the Huskers. There is a chance for some rain in West Lafayette on Saturday, but if rain does fall it will be toward the later half of the ball game. Otherwise temperatures will hover right around 70 with winds out of the South at 10mph. Nebraska's Defense and the Big Play Nebraska's defense went into their game against Illinois knowing that they had to get better. They had to be fundamentally better and they had to be mentally better. Coming into the Illinois game, the Husker D allowed 18.4% of the plays they had faced to be either rushes of 10 yards or passes of 15 yards (i.e. "big plays"). Worse yet, those 18.4 % of plays accounted for 61.7% of the total yards given up by the defense. People will point out that yards don't mean anything, but I'm a big believer that yards tell a big part of the story because you have to get yards to get points. Nebraska's young defensive group through 4 games of the season was highly susceptible to giving up the big play, and there was great concern that Illinois could exploit that and come away from Memorial Stadium with a victory. That fear was legitimate. Illinois's offense through their first 4 games of the season was indeed explosive. In fact, the numbers pointed to a potential doom and gloom picture for the Husker faithful. Heading into their game against Nebraska, Illinois's offensive numbers were: 1914 yards, 161 points, 285 plays = 6.71 YPP | Big Plays: 57 (20%), 1300 yards (67.9%) = 22.8 YPP | Adjusted = 228 plays, 614 yards = 2.69 YPP Those numbers pointed to the Illini offense being all about the big play. They had the talent and they had the scheme to exploit the defenses they played (yes, they even did so against Washington: don't let the low yardage total fool you, 238 of Illinois's 327 yards were results of big plays). With Nebraska's defense being highly vulnerable to getting busted open for big plays, Husker and Illini fans were both bracing for a high scoring battle. It didn't happen. Nebraska did much better against an explosive Illinois offense. I could ramble on and on about Afalava's play, the defensive line getting pressure, our tackling in the backfield, and our ability to be opportunistic, but I'll let the numbers do the talking. You have our defensive numbers above; here are the numbers from the Illinois game: 402 yards, 17 points, 80 plays = 5.03 YPP | Big Plays: 9 (11.2%), 154 yards (38.3%) = 17.11 YPP | Adjusted = 71 plays, 248 yards = 3.49 YPP The 5.03 YPP total was 1.68 YPP lower than Illinois's average and 1.41 YPP lower than Nebraska's defensive average. That's a huge improvement. Furthermore, When Illinois hit the big play, which was 8.8% less than their season average, it went for 5.7 YPP fewer. Nebraska's D turned Illinois into a team it was uncomfortable being. Without those big plays, Illinois didn't have the chance to finish off their drives. As a result, the Illini didn't get into the end zone until well into the 3rd quarter. It was definitely a step in the right direction for the young Nebraska defense, who dealt Illinois's offense its worst performance of the season. I know Bo Pelini looks at the film and is encouraged, but not content with what he sees. I am confident that the Nebraska defense worked their asses off this week to get ready for Purdue, and have no doubt that they'll be ready to play on Saturday. I'm not expecting a huge day from Purdue's offense, despite our defensive woes. Aside from their game against Northern Illinois, the Boilermaker offense has been the very definition of anemic: 1508 yards, 85 points, 335 plays = 4.5 YPP | Big Plays: 37 (11%), 731 yards (48.5%) = 19.76 YPP | Adjusted = 298 plays, 777 yards = 2.61 YPP Purdue's offense should play right into the strengths of Nebraska's defense. Their offense has just a hard of a time generating a big play as our defense does stopping a big play from happening. However, in both of their last games, Purdue's offense and Nebraska's defense showed great improvement from their averages. Purdue's offense was more explosive than normal, Nebraska's defense was stingier than normal. So it'll be interesting to see what will happen come Saturday. My bet is that the Husker defense makes another step forward, holding Purdue to their average and further improving those big play numbers. Football is obviously won on both sides of the ball, and Nebraska's offense and Purdue's defense will be the focus of my next entry.

  11. I worry about further tapes or videos being released. Although the tapes/vids listed below are pure speculation, they could be damaging to our Husker football program: . audio of Pelini berating the paperboy for throwing his newspaper in the bushes. (The paperboy starts crying). video of Pelini killing a unicorn. And eating its still beating heart. audio of Pelini making the "Mike Rotch" prank call to Dirk Chatelain during the OWH Christmas party. (Chatelain starts crying). video of Pelini leaving a flaming bag of dog sh#t on Tim Miles’ front step. Hazing the new guy. video of Pelini riding on a moped with his young, attractive girlfriend. (Our cheap boosters—sheesh! Too cheap to get Pelini a motorcycle like Hogs boosters got for Petrino.) video of Pelini goofing around in the lockerroom, and giving Tyler Moore an over-the-head super wedgie—the real reason Tyler Moore left the team. . . Okay Huskerboard, it's time to shake out of our funk! We got a game tomorrow!!

  15. why was the ucla game the breaking point for so many fans? not the first time we have been blown out, and some could argue this was not even close to the worst. by all accounts, ucla is a pretty good team and we are young. my guess would be it is because of how we lost. we were up 21-3 and should have easily won. we could have just ran the ball and played base defense and won soundly. we are tired of seeing the collapses, but bo also knows how to give us just enough hope to make us believe things are fixed. that is what makes it so rough. also, the offense failed, and that was supposed to be the saving grace of our team. however, i really started this post because zoogies alluded to this topic and i wanted to hear his thoughts. finally, the ucla loss hurt and is demoralizing, but i still think bo could be out guy. we have talent, now we need time.

  18. Things I hope to see tonight 1. VV taking the next step. He did a great job must of the time last week of eating the double team and driving them backwards. Now make some plays off of that push and maintain that level of play longer. 2. Limited contact on Taylor. I think the shoulder was hurt more than anyone admit.. Last time it was a quiet week about an injury of his this long, his ankle was jacked up. 3. Taking in space. Always a key against spread offenses. Last week was hit and miss. Want to get of the field, limit the YAC. 4. Stronger OLine play. They were inconsistent against Wyoming. A lot of talk about their depth and experience and yet they looked lost way more than they should have last week. Spencer long needs to partylike the AA we all think he can be. More than once he was worked over. ARod maintain a solid game instead of looking great one drive and sucking the next two. 5. Look deep. Only long pass came on Jake Long's catch on the tip from Q. Those plays were there from the second quarter on last week and Beck didn't go there. 6. LBs. The position and playing time seems to still be up for grabs. Young cats go get it. 7. Communication. Will be a process for a young defense, today take that next step and bulls on it. 8. Charles Jackson. Let him play. He could be the answer against these spread teams. Andrew Green showed last week he may actually be regressing through his career. 9. NEWBY IN THE ENDZONE. I've always been in his camp suckas. Time for some pay dirt. Now, what say you gentlemen???? And ladies, sorry ladyhawke and Moiraine

  21. After an extremely disappointing home opener, I am torn on this week's line. That being said, I am going to take us to cover and I'll take the under. Southern Miss turned the ball over 7 times in their opener and they are on a 13 game losing streak. I don't see how it gets any better for them when they travel to Lincoln. I think the team is going to respond this week and they're going to come out and play some inspired, physical football.
  22. Ameer Abdullah, on a 25 yard toss sweep. Thoughts?
  23. This is a big part of what's wrong with health care in the U.S. Expecting a guy--a self employed guy with insurance--to pay $20,000 up front for a surgery that costs around $3,000. Hospitals are greedy. Insurance companies are greedy, evil and dishonest. imo. This just ticks me off. It makes me want to corner our health care system in a dark alley and break a bottle over it's head. And stab it in the neck.
