    Mitch

I ran across this podcast looking for something to listen to on my flight back from Christmas. Give it a listen. It's 5 part series from NPR's Embedded on McConnell, his rise to power, ultimate legacy of fighting for dark money in politics, his battle over that money with McCain, and political battles to maintain power (especially reconciling with Trump). It's not flattering, but it has interviews with Mitch himself, former staffers, opponents, and others. Unfortunately it doesn't really get into his motivations, other than pushing for right of center agendas and remaining in power. As someone who was too young to remember the fight with big tobacco it's alarming, although not surprising, to see Mitch was on the wrong end of that battle. They also highlight the money that flowed to him and the GOP at his request. It's also amazing to see the separate paths that were taken by McConnell and McCain when it came to money in politics. Mitch seems fully aware that without the dark money the GOP as we know it today would not exist. Mitch Part 1: 'Win This Thing' Mitch Part 2: 'Money Money Money' Mitch Part 3: 'Darth Vader Has Arrived' Mitch Part 4: 'Not A Happy Choice' Mitch Part 5: '9 And 0'
  2. After taking a month off, the Husker Football Fan Podcast is back for our second season! Episode 1 is a preview of the Oregon game with Kirk Carpenter, a lifelong Oregon fan from the west coast. We discuss the matchup, talk about the Ducks’ recent coaching changes, and look at their fall schedule: Direct link to listen: http://traffic.libsyn.com/huskerpod/S02E01_-_Oregon_Preview.mp3 Podcast episode page: http://huskerpod.libsyn.com/s02e01-oregon-preview You can also subscribe on iTunes. We have a number of interviews lined up, so we're going to continue with a weekly format for the month of July. Next week we'll be publishing an interview with Kyle Jones of Eleven Warriors (Ohio State's Huskermax equivalent), and after that will be Zach Pereles of Inside NU (SBNation's Northwestern beat). And as if that wasn't enough, we also just published a midsummer update discussing the Friday Night Lights camps and the state of the sellout streak. Direct link to mini episode: http://traffic.libsyn.com/huskerpod/S02E02_-_Midsummer_Update.mp3 Podcast episode page: http://huskerpod.libsyn.com/s02e02-midsummer-update If you listen, please post here and share your feedback! This is a different format from what we did during the season, so we're open to constructive criticism. Thanks for listening
  3. The Husker Football Fancast published Part 2 of our season recap this week! We'd love it if you checked 'em out: Part 1: http://huskerfancast.libsyn.com/s01e17-2015-season-recap-part-1 In Part 1, we take a broad look at 2015, including the highs and lows. We're also joined by Danny Sabra, the winner of our season-long score prediction contest. Part 2: http://huskerfancast.libsyn.com/s01e19-2015-season-recap-part-2 In Part 2, we discuss last year's MVP's and make some very early predictions about 2016. You can also listen / subscribe on iTunes...just click the banner link in my signature. We still plan to publish a few episodes during the offseason (think Spring Game, NFL draft, etc.). If you have any ideas, criticism, compliments, guest suggestions, or general input, we'll welcome all of it. If you give it a listen, please let me know!
  4. Hi everyone, longtime lurker checking in. My last post here is from the Callahan era! My friend Justin and I are starting a Husker fan podcast this fall. Back in April we took our first step by recording a "preview episode" after the spring game. If you've got about a half hour to spare, I'd be thrilled if you gave it a listen and shared your feedback: http://www.mikeharvat.com/huskers/huskers.mp3 Please know that there are already a LOT of things we want to improve before we record our first real episode, most importantly... - Improved audio quality (We were testing a Skype recording program with Justin calling in while driving in western NE). This includes a more balanced mix and more audio production in general. - Well-defined and delineated segments (e.g. Weekly recap, Huskers in the NFL, trending topics in Husker Nation) So basically, it will sound better and have more organization come September, but I think this preview captures the spirit of what we want to create. Our goal is to make it interesting for our fellow fans by keeping it entertaining, educational, and enthusiastic. We will take your feedback and criticism to heart! Thanks, - Mike
