gobiggergoredder
You shouldn’t win with the turnovers and horrid offense we have. It’s a combination. Our defense is good and our opponents are terrible. Things are going in the right direction. This is a winless squad under Frost & Riley. 4 1 Quote Link to comment

Cornfed
Just give credit where credit is due. Regardless of how poor the B10 west was/is the former regimes would have found ways to lose the games were winning. 4 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Enhance
Both things are true. The B1G West is a turd of a division. But, Nebraska's doing a good job of making the most of its opportunities. The B1G West has been bad for awhile and yet Nebraska has rarely made it to November still in the division hunt. 3 Quote Link to comment

Fru
Both but Neb is definitely improving. The B1G has done a good job of marketing itself as this “tough” and “gritty” league. Which to a degree is true. But it’s also a lot of very, very, very bad football. Quote Link to comment

This is getting ridiculous. That said, both . But we have not played the teams that are typically good yet. The West teams that are worse than usual are Wisconsin and MSU. When we started playing in the Big Ten, IIRC Purdue, Minnesota, and NW were all mediocre or sucked. And we've been finding ways to lose to them for years now. 1 Quote Link to comment

It's actually pretty balanced and most teams are only tiny favorites or dogs. You lost a lot of close games last year and new it is evening out. 1 Quote Link to comment
floridacorn
I've always thought it was subpar, that's been the frustrating part of watching this teams ineptitude. Granted, the division is somehow always tougher than it appears to be at the beginning of the season. Quote Link to comment

It isn't a matter of fate, Karma or anything similar. It is a matter of good coaching vs bad coaching plain and simple. We lost a lot of close games because of coaching primarily. We have many of the same players but are getting a different outcome. Rhule has taught these players how to be winners and has replaced that losing culture with a much better one. No doubt that under Frost we would be 2-6 now at best. 1 2 Quote Link to comment

ND Joe has a fair point, but Frost’s ineptitude led to losing so many close games, that it was beyond anything statistically related. With this year, Rhule has a close loss with Minnesota, and two “close wins”’ with Illinois and Northwestern. Rhule’s coaching has helped NU have the confidence to win the last 2. Regarding the original post, the Big Ten West has always been the weaker division, but this year is even worse due to QB injuries, coaching changes, and other factors. I do believe that NU’s play has improved, most significantly on defense. The special teams and game management has also improved, which has helped with the offense getting slightly worse and turnovers continuing to be a problem. 1 Quote Link to comment
