I know the social media aspect is different but Kobe actually played in the NBA at the same time as Jordan and I don't remember much hate and Kobe was talked about a lot on Sport center/ESPN.  I know he got the normal up and comer talk of being the "next Jordan" but not necessarily saying he looks and plays like Jordan.  I guess the common man was just yelling hate at the TV since there was no X or Instagram

That was an era where they focused more on the sport itself on SportsCenter, just like MTV used to actually play music.  It's not the same world anymore.

You mean an era where programing is actually what the network says they are going to do?  Interesting idea.

Just ignore the line about the redshirt season.

Quote

Garcia: FACT. Jacory Barney was one of the more electric players in fertile South Florida as a prep standout. He was always making plays at various positions, but most expected him to excel with the ball in his hands at the next level. It was only a matter of time before he focused on one position and added to his slight frame, seemingly accomplished last year during his redshirt season at Nebraska.

Now, we see Barney getting touches manufactured in the NU offense, whether as a pass-catcher or runner behind the line of scrimmage. That type of juice has not been seen much at Florida State this year, and the lack of versatility among Florida Gators wide receivers has made the program one dimensional against FBS opponents this fall. Barney did not even claim scholarship offers from FSU or UF. Even UCF passed. Miami was in the mix, but he wasn't a priority when it came down to his pick.

Smith: FACT. Nebraska has always worked hard to recruit South Florida and it's had success in the past landing players from there. So it wasn’t a shock when he landed at Nebraska. But the fact that the in-state programs were so lukewarm on the playmaker was baffling. It looks worse already in hindsight because he’s a big part of what the Huskers are doing on an offense that has some excitement around it.

Florida State really dropped the ball here. Its receiving corps has struggled in a major way this season (though QB play doesn’t help) and could use a playmaker like Barney. The speedster is going to make a lot of plays in Lincoln and leave people wondering what the Florida programs were thinking.

One thing I love about what Rhule has done so far is this feels like his team. The past few regimes we were saying year after year "well he has the last coaches guys, just wait until he gets his roster in here." You don't get that feeling with this team. The way things have shifted as far as transfers, ect definitely helps, but still impressive none the less.

Yes! Goodness that was so annoying. "Frost just needs his guys! He needs more time!".  You can tell in year two if things are on the right track, results by year 3. I'll die on that hill.

Interesting thread.

I think this last tweet of his incapsulates what most of us think.   Zero creativity in the run game and the passing routes generally make no sense and take toooooooo long.  A competent OC (and a competent kicker😀) fixes this and probably adds  10-14 points a game easily.   While also taking pressure of the defense to be perfect.

We probably need to look at doing something different on 1st & 2nd down. As much as I didn't like bringing back fullbacks to our roster last year, maybe we need to line up with lead blockers and see what that looks like in the run game.

Starting one of the Big Johnson's would also be something good to try.

Outside of that, maybe we need to treat 1st & 2nd downs a bit more like 3rd & long sometimes, because we're almost looking better on those plays than we do when it's 1st & 10.

Teams are all over the short swing passes and screens on 1st & 10 and 2nd & long, there's just no element of surprise there.

Disagree, with his last statement.  When I watched the game, we got no push & there was nowhere to run.  Also fidone  missed several blocks on the outside, along with our WR.   If in fact, Scott is the weak link in the middle & we can't hold the ends, where do you go?  In the past, WR & TE had to be able to block to play.  This coaching staff must not believe in that.

Our perimeter blocking is soooo hit and miss (mostly miss) on this. Too many times completely whiffing a block and leaving the target out to dry. Which sucks bc that's essentially an extension of the run game at times.

While we may be upgraded at receiver/TE from last year, that whole group has been underwhelming to say the least

Psst! Fidone and the WRs are not offensive linemen!
