I haven't read everything since the Indiana game so this probably isn't the first time it's been said, but all signs point to McGuire not pulling his weight. From the analysis I have read/watched from a few different places, the biggest issues with the offense (biggest, not only) are 1) perimeter blocking and 2) receivers running poor/wrong routes. Sure, Rhule has a point with the "be a man and block the guy you're supposed to block" - but if it's happening consistently that has to come back to coaching. You're going to have growing pains with a coach that young, but to my non-expert eye McGuire and Foley are the two consistently underperforming. Could also argue Barthel.

 

I do also think the Big Ten is a tough fit for Banks/Neyor, and the WR room just isn't as great as we hoped. I like them both, but it's a lot tougher to get open than it was in the ACC or MWC. Also not sure Neyor's mobility fully came back after his injury, even if the top line speed did - and in the Big Ten teams aren't going to just let you run downfield. But it's not great when even your lone offensive single digit player has to be taken off the field in favor of Alex Bullock (no offense intended) because he cannot make a block.

I don’t believe the offense is being coached to their potential. I think Raiola is getting coached with kiddie gloves as are the rest of the players. Raiola should be challenged by coaches every game to be the dude. To go win a game. Do what it takes, be a leader. That’s a really tough ask for a true freshman but if you want to change a culture of losing, ya gotta make people/teammates uncomfortable. It doesn’t matter if you mess up, but mess up playing your a$$ off.

 

seeing Raiola take off to run was significant impact and a highly underrated expectation right now. Kid has to become aggressive

 

From what I see, i believe the most influential coaches on the offensive staff believe they can scheme or play call to win, instead of…ya know, lining up against the mother effer in front of you and believing im going to find a way to beat you.

I thought this was some pretty interesting analysis. Talks about how you really need to play to your strengths rather than obsess over building up your weaknesses, or go away from your strength for an element of surprise or gameplanning. And pointed out that while our strength on D is stopping the run, and we built our Indiana gameplan around stopping the pass and then just let it spiral.

Not defending the 6-6 record (we should have been 8-4 imo), but according to FPI we played the 10th toughest schedule in the country (although it may move a bit once all the games are played today).  I don't think anyone expected that at the beginning of the year.

Is Quinn Clark expected to make an impact next year?

 

It'll be interesting to see exactly how Carter Nelson gets used with the two 6'4" senior wideouts being gone. Obviously you'd want Lloyd and Barney to be used in big ways.

 

You'd assume Fidone & Boerkircher are back, which would be good. Boerkircher is probably a lot better weapon than most people (including myself) had thought.

Shirley Fidone has been getting a lot of attention on Reddit for her facebook comments.  I don't know if that's mom, grandma or aunt, but it's funny.  She's certainly not happy with his playing time.
