There was a huge difference when Johnson took over. Dowdell long run was 12 yards. RJohnson's long run was 13 yards Ervin's long run was 11 yards. EJohnson's long run was 42 yards. I think you're remembering more than was there. 3 4 Quote Link to comment

Is that the right use of a TE? Definitely not, I get the concept of trying to move the defense side to side to then go vertical but I’d rather see fidone blocking on this play and an actual guy with speed with the ball. They didn’t set him up for success and he looked slow as hell as a result 2 Quote Link to comment

Undone
Some offensive stats: We put up 507 yards of offense. Raiola threw for 70%. Taking out a sack from the rushing stats, I show our backs had 46 carries and averaged 4.9 yards per carry. I really like the 507 yards of offense part, and I loved how Raiola overcame that 2nd & 30 on the last drive. There's so much to talk about with the offense, but the main thing is just looking at how different the offense is with a QB who keeps his eyes downfield and steps up in the pocket to keep looking for a receiver downfield on drop back pass plays. There's no more of this panicking, deer-in-the-headlights thing. A couple of the throws Dylan made were kind of amazing, honestly. Banks is every bit as good as advertised, and Neyor is probably even better than advertised. Our backs did "ok." The run by Rahmir in the 2nd quarter to pick up that first down was a pretty big play to boost us forward and not stall out. 3 Quote Link to comment

Here ya go: Raiola wasn't as spry as I envisioned. With all the comparisons to Mahomes, I'd thought he'd be a quicker scrambler and take off a few times when there were yards in front of him. Thought some of the running schemes were pretty vanilla. I figured we'd hang 50 on em (Im running out of material). I think my favorite play outside of the TD pass at end of half, was a 3rd down and medium play where Raiola audibled into a run, that was the perfect call against that front. Great poise by a true freshman. 1 Quote Link to comment

The Dude
Raiola is as advertised. Looked calm and capable as could be. Helps when you have all day, all day. Offensive line did their jobs in the run and pass game. Looks like he has some decent receivers to throw to as well. Maybe that kid can coach after all. Dowdell seems to be the best runner. Obviously needs to hang onto the ball. He'll be our best chance to beat Colorado if he can do that. Him and E. Johnson could be a filthy 1-2 punch. Nothing wrong with playing all 4 if we continue to be a run heavy team. Defense is as expected. Looked great! Rhule doesn't trust the kicking game from very far out. 2 Quote Link to comment

True, but I feel like thats what many of us have said with other early games over the past few seasons, then it turns out thats just what the coaches want to do. We'll see what next week brings. 1 Quote Link to comment

One thing I'd like to see is more pass production from Tight Ends. Fidone looks like a steroidal Thor and very lumbering; why get him running the routes we did is confusing. Quote Link to comment

teachercd
I was at the game....8 rows from the field 30 yard line on the Husker side and The Husker WR's are freaking massive. The entire team is pretty big but the WR's are tall, long and built. I do think they pulled the starters a bit early. 2 Quote Link to comment
