What did we learn

Nebraska’s decline started against Colorado in 2001. Nebraska begins its ascension back to the top against Colorado in 2024

I remember that game well; exactly where I was that horrible Black Friday, November day.  It was the final nail, ending the era wherein the mere sight of a Nebraska helmet brought fear into an opponent’s eyes.  The slow, but steady, return to that culture takes intensity, commitment and talent. I concur that all three traits showed a slight glow on the horizon yesterday.

Offense:

-Still a little vanilla, but that’s ok.

-I was concerned about 2nd half until I realized the impact of the penalties.

-Team probably had another 21-28 in the tank if things went our way.

-I don’t mind all the holding calls.  Everyone holds.  We just need to get better at it.

Defense:

-Just a great effort.

-Didn’t care for 3 man rush.  Seemed extremely ineffective. Thankfully they only did it a few times.

Special Teams:

-We can’t put a kickoff in the endzone?

-Kick off coverage is loose.

-can we find a FG kicker?

-punter did well

-it’s nice to return punts here and there.  Big improvement over last few years.

2 of the punts that IGC caught where sneaky huge plays.  In years past we dont catch them then end up with bad field position, go 3 and out and the field is flipped

I learned that our D is vastly improved.  I kept feeling like "the Blackshirts are back!"  We haven't seen them referred to as Blackshirts much.. I don't know, has Coach handed out the Blackshirt gear yet?  Has he dropped the Blackshirts concept?

I went to the game and was reminded that Husker nation can still bring it hard and loud when we want to. I’ve been to 40-50 games in my life and this might have been the loudest. A lot of new game day experiences and a raucous student section were nice to see. If we bring that kind of energy to every big game, I find it hard to see how we lose.

I remember as well - changing the brakes on my car in my in-law's garage in Brookings, SD.  Listening to the game on the radio and not knowing what I hated worse - changing brakes while on vacation or listening to the game.

Dante is a nasty dude. On one play he got to the second level and rather than try to avoid the secondary player, he just ran RIGHT at him. I don't know if it was the same play or not, but I've never in my life heard of someone breaking a forearm from getting hit by a runningback.

I was laughing my a$$ off at that play. He scored on the next play, but if goes left or right it's a TD. Instead he see Sanders and decides to send a message.

That 1st quarter everybody was laying the wood. The defense was just crushing guys on their tackles and ripping the ball like crazy (actually cost us some YAC though). RBs and WRs were dropping their shoulders on the way out of bounds. They had an axe to grind and it was awesome to see!
