2024 Game 3 “Expert” Picks: Northern Iowa @ Nebraska
—————

CollegeFootballNews.com

It’s great to be a Nebraska Cornhusker. The team easily blew past Colorado last week, and now there’s a shot at the program’s first 3-0 start to the season. Northern Iowa won’t be a layup, though. It’s 2-0 with strong wins over Valparaiso and St. Thomas, and … it’s great to be a UNI Panther. And why? After this the team goes to Honolulu to play Hawaii.

Why Northern Iowa Will Win
The lines have been wonderful so far. The offensive front isn’t allowing sacks for an attack averaging 300 yards per game on the ground, the pass rush has been strong, and the defense is getting to the quarterback enough to matter. There haven’t been any takeaways, but there’s been just one turnover so far. Play clean, hold up on the lines, at least provide a little pressure to Dylan Raiola, and …

Why Nebraska Will Win
He’s still just a freshman. The hype and expectations and pressure on Raiola couldn’t have been bigger - hey kid, just save an entire university and football program. He’s hitting 74% of his throws, he has yet to throw a pick, he’s poised, mature, and he’s doing everything the team needed. Combine the strong quarterback play with a defense that’s crushing so far up front - that’s what happens when you play Colorado - and there’s a good mix to keep all the success going.

Nebraska vs Northern Iowa: Who Will Win
Northern Iowa won’t be a total pushover, but the Nebraska offense will be balanced and solid, it’ll get up quickly, and will roll from there. Don’t expect a blasting - the score will be worse than the game. The Panthers won’t let this get totally out of hand, but they won’t capitalize on their opportunities, either.

This will be a fast game.  UNI is going to run no matter what, so I look for the clock to be moving.

The question is if the Huskers can get out to a nice lear early and how fast they pull the starters in the second half.

I would still lay the points though and I can see some big passing plays for NU.  UNI has nothing to lose, might as well crowd the line and try to make DR beat them.

That is the key here.  I see Nebraska winning by several scores.  But, how soon will they pull the starters.  Then, will the backups be able to score also?

I'm a homer.  I'm taking that Nebraska covers.

PS....at least Nebraska BETTER win by several scores.

I’m as much an expert as any of these folks.

41-0. Subbing in a ton of dudes in the 3rd. Everyone plays. Alvano goes 2-2. Banks has his first big day. Barney takes one to the house. No hangover on defense, offense looks good against subpar competition. We get one of our two shutouts this year.

Honestly think UNI is better than UTEP.

IDK man. Based on UNI beating the St. Thomas Tommies (a team I have never even heard of before) 17-10?

I think UNIs only hope of doing better than UTEP is if we take them way too lightly and start pulling starters in the 2nd.

We'll win by ten or so (13?  9?).   Both teams will rack up a lot of yardage on the ground, but settle for FGs often.  We'll out gain them passing, but not necessarily on the ground as their star running back finds a way around our rushing D line too often throughout the game.

Penalties will be a factor.
