Is it wrong if I would be disappointed with 8 wins?

Take care of business vs Illinois, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA, and Wisconsin (all games we will be at least a TD favorite).  That gets to 8.

Then need to win one on the road at Indiana, USC, or Iowa to get to 9.  Win 2 of those to get to 10 (and an outside chance of making a trip to Indy and the playoff).  Win all 3 and we are not only playing in Indy, but also a decent chance we are hosting a game on the 3rd weekend in December.

I maintain that anything more than two losses would be a disappointment. That’s not just based on how we are playing, but because the Big Ten seems to be having such a big down year. If we don’t have any letdowns, two losses should be the max.

I think we need to remember where we're at as a program. In a sense, yes, disappointing. But we also haven't been to a bowl in 7 years, which is just atrocious. I would take 8 wins right now. I don't feel that we're at the point where we can say "Yep, these 8 games? Guaranteed wins."

In fact I'd say only Purdue is a game where I feel at this point "Yep, Nebraska should roll." Maybe UCLA, depends on how good Indiana truly is. Rutgers is an unknown. Wisconsin is still Wisconsin until we actually get over the hump and beat them. I am a pessimist by nature, so take it with a grain of salt, but I really hope the team as a whole is looking at each game as absolutely crucial. This is probably the most crucial season for Nebraska in 10 years. Can't overlook a single opponent (Not even Purdue).

While I would be disappointed if we lose more than two games this year, I also wouldn’t be surprised and wouldn’t want to walk off the edge of a building like much of Husker Nation will want to if we lose a couple we should win. Ha ha. I definitely remember the last six years, the last 10, the last 20….but I do think 10 wins is very possible. It’s not unrealistic, especially with this culture change that we are seeing before our eyes.

Yes, imo. We haven't been .500 in seven years. While being able to take care of business against cupcake non-con teams the way we ought to and used to is nice and optimistic, it's not good enough evidence on its own to prove that we are a team ready to never slip up against equal or lower competition over the course of an entire season.

Several teams that our fans are chalking wins up against have a bye week before we play them... More than any other B1G team will face.  With an extra week of preparation, those games will all be tougher than they appear.  I am optimistic but I'm not quite ready to say we are going to win 9 or 10 games yet.  I still think going 4-5 or 5-4 the rest of the way is most likely.  6-3 or better isn't hard to believe but we need to clean up quite a bit, and stay healthy in all the right positions, to pull that off imo.

Here is a good post that supports my position that we need to slow our roll a bit.

I’m assuming this doesn’t take into account being super vanilla in every second half, putting in backups halfway through the games, all that. I can understand not wanting to drink all the Kool-Aid, but I also think some are being overly pessimistic about our chances this year. If anyone thinks seven wins are reasonable this year, I just don’t get it. With safe quarterback play last year and an arguably more difficult schedule, we win nine games. Seven wins this year would be a massive disappointment.

That's a good question. I don't think it does, so, yeah, we do need to factor that in. Also, I wouldn't say it's reason to panic. What, we're slightly underperforming relative to our opponents three weeks in? I wouldn't panic at all. We look on track. Just that a double-digit win season seems to me something that I wouldn't put my hopes in yet. Like I said, I'm think 8-9 wins. Do that, win a bowl, that'd be great I think.

We only play 2 teams that will have a bye advantage - Ohio St and UCLA.

9/20 Illinois - played Central Mich the week before

9/28 @ Purdue - plays Oregon St the week before

10/5 Rutgers - plays Washington the week before

10/19 @ Indiana - BOTH NU and Indiana have a bye the week before

10/26 @ Ohio St - has a bye the week before

11/2 UCLA - has a bye the week before

11/16 @ USC - BOTH NE and USC have a bye the week before

11/23 Wisconsin - plays Oregon the week before

11/29 @ Iowa - plays Maryland the week before
