Lol.  We basically played 5 quarters.

Tubby saved a few plays for late but to think it would continue that direction shows your negativity.

No way to prove either of our opinions but I believe if we played the game 3 more times,  we win 2-3 of them.   We were and are the better team.  Even illinois fans admit that if you read their forum.   I know your feelings are hurt from the last 10 years but have a bit of patience.   It's getting better.

You’re right, we basically played five quarters. They scored in two plays and were running towards the wrong end zone. Maybe they beat us by 40.

If you watched the game, I’m not sure how you’re building a defensible position this one looked good or we are the better team. Our DBs played soft and we’re still outmatched, both lines got pushed around, and we were out coached in addition to our Junior High ST play.  And all of this happened while playing at home, at night, during our 400th sellout.

OL started the game with one backup and finished with 2.  I may be wrong but I dont think DR was sacked until Corcoran went down

We need to be able to run the ball, especially to close out games.  We need to be more athletic on the OL.  I will hope that the DL just had a bad game.

He was sacked once in the first quarter, but it was almost 5 seconds after the snap - Benhart got beat pretty clean but sort of kept himself in the way while facing the wrong way for a bit. They held up alright until the very end, and even then it was mostly communication issues rather than just flat out getting beat by the rushers. Same result, but I have more confidence in communication issues getting ironed out than any of the upper classmen making huge strides in play. Gottula was pretty solid, and I do expect him  to improve with experience.

Another thing to point out. The crowd was crazy all game against Colorado. It seemed like the start of Illinois had the same energy.

However, when things turned in the latter game the crowd seemed to reflex back to a “here we go again” posture, and this was early in the game. I’d say we have amazing crowds and a home field advantage, but it can’t be when things are going well. And, I fully understand why they flipped, but if we want the players to work through challenges with optimism, the crowd should look to buy in to the same idea.
