And a moment before that he said he was pleasantly surprised by the run blocking. Some people around here seem to reflexively blame the OL (and coach Raiola), but Holgo is pretty clearly putting more of the blame on the RBs.

We haven’t had a legit #1 RB since Oz. Maybe Wan’dale, but injuries forced that move. I don’t know why we have struggled with legit RB’s since Bo.

I don’t think we have had an offense that focused on running the ball like Bo’s offenses did.

Maurice Washington was probably that guy but he doesn't even really count for obvious reasons.

I think Barthel is pretty guilty in all of this and even though I don't want to be "that guy" that says it would be such an obvious move to play the 2nd string player...I do think E Johnson would have gotten more yards and yards per carry if we would have leaned on him from the beginning of the year. Probably even Rahmir.

EJ has all the skills necessary to be RB1, but he lacks vision and it has been a problem in multiple season now. Although last game he looked like a whole new man out there.

Lack of vision seems to be a problem with all the backs, outside of Rahmir. Which makes me wonder if something they're been taught is off. I don't have the first clue about how to coach a running back to find the open running lane, but I know an open hole when I see it and they don't seem to.

I think the second level vision (for example, maybe don't run into defenders) is hard to teach. But where the hole should be and how to attack it on a given concept is very coachable. Most of the time the holes are harder to see from behind the line of scrimmage as opposed to the TV camera, but it's not as hard as our guys make it look.

I like how EJ is running, but he bounces around a lot. He does get upfield at the end of a play which I appreciate (still have nightmares about our backs running sideways and not getting first downs), but it's a lot of burst through, cut waaay outside, then violently cut back inside/upfield. He's getting yards and breaking tackles, but there are more direct routes to where he ends up that could lead to bigger plays.

eh, most advanced analysis from PFF would indicate we're still a below average unit with some veteran lineman on our team ranking dead last in the country some weeks on how they grade out.  clearly something is amiss with our rbs but goal line and rz scenarios are all you need to see that his line cannot get a push in the run game if its life depended on it.

Agree about Washington he had all the potential in the world.  Really wish he could have gotten his legal stuff sorted out.    EJ has flashed the best of our current crew mo.  Unsure if it's what they are being taught/not taught or the constant rotation and not getting "into a rhythm".  Dana did have some solid running years in his career.  I think even his worst season was barely less than where we are now.  And that was win TT (IIRC) had the #1 offense, #1 passing and I think a top 5 scoring.  Credit him again for being honest.  I think it'd light a fire in the guys who want to compete.  Kudos to Rhule for having brought Dana in and listening to that presser.....Had to be tough.

He wasn't  a good running back either.  He had a couple good plays where he got to the edge and had decent gains. He ran straight up.   He didnt have good vision and had "losers limp" any time something didn't go right.  He probably would have been a decent WR tho.
