floridacorn
I'm interested in how the Rhule comment "he (Holgorsen) is not an Air Raid coach anymore, it's just the system he came up in" applies to DH as OC beyond this season. Rhule also acknowledging he's learned from Dana's process. Reading between the lines in Holgorsen's presser, he'd like to stay & focus on being a play caller, but would catch himself before he went too far and seeded any leverage. I'm paraphrasing, but I thought he implied the play book was way too big, and there were too many chefs in the kitchen. Said he's been able to install a few things of his own, I hope Shallow Sting is one of them. That play is nasty & perfect against a quarters team like Iowa! Also implied much of what he wants to run was already in the playbook. NU definitely ran Mesh, they just ran it poorly. One other interesting note from the Holgorsen presser, he talked about how much guys were moved around before, and he's trying to keep them focused on one position. I know it's pretty common in the Air Raid to have L & R receivers vs X & Y. I don't think he's gone that far in this limited amount of time, but this all speaks to the offense doing too much previously despite the public perception they needed to be doing more. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crusader Husker
I just think with DH as OC, everyone is playing with a lot more confidence. Our OL looks better too. We need to just beat Iowa and see what we can do in a bowl game. 1 Quote Link to comment
Moiraine
Rhule said last year Iowa players waved at the Nebraska players and told them to have a nice Christmas (after keeping them out of a bowl game). It's not that bad, but I wonder if things got slightly more heated after we finally beat them in 2022 and kept them out of the conference championship game. Like I don't think you'd be that much of an a$$ if you'd beat a team 6 years in a row. I've always thought more people would see this as a rivalry when we finally started to stop each other from achieving things. We finally prevented them from a goal, then they did the same to us. Previous seasons they weren't stopping us from getting to a bowl (except 2019) because we sucked too much for that. 1 Quote Link to comment

Why now are screens working? OC benching guys who don't block, like fidone. 1 Quote Link to comment

He specifically mentioned the "big guys" (WRs) who should be better at blocking, then he mentioned Barney by his jersey # and said he was tough. 1 Quote Link to comment

Damn this is spot-on. Rhule talked about "zero position football" in the offseason. To me that implies that he wants hybrid players all over the field. Well guess what, it didn't really turn out to be all that great. Yes, we were better than in the Frost era but that isn't saying anything. Get the ball to Barney in space. Get the ball to Emmett in space. Throw the ball quickly to our long, 6'4" receivers on the edge. It just wasn't nearly as hard as Satterfield was making it, as you alluded to. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
