I would rather have a plan in place and go get a certain coach than fire our coach not having any clue who available or and get a coach just to spend money to someone who is ok or just because he was the best available at the end.

If we made that catch.  If the ref didn’t call it that way.  If my dad didn’t beat me.  Cool story.  They were down by 20+ to atleast 5 teams this year.

Making the tournament is like making a bowl.  You should expect to make it every year. 
 

It’s great our fanbase has become so enamored with a basic expectation.  An expectation that has proven to be quite elusive.

We have never even won a tournament game what exactly is a realistic expectation for the only power 4 school to have that dubious distinction?

 

don’t be ridiculous.  Everyone is frustrated with how the season went…we get it.  This is not a destination job for anyone better than Fred.  And as far as recruits go…what’s the selling point? Winning tradition?  NBA feeder?  Money?  Facilities?  Fans? 
 

unfortunately guys that put basketballs in hoops with regularity rarely care about fans…so our #1 draw is ridiculously overstated when it comes to impact basketball players 😆…we have great facilities and money.  We have zero evidence of winning when you come here and we are far from an NBA feeder program.  
 

I won’t speak for husker nation, I don’t know what the masses feel…but I have realistic expectations/hopes for our basketball program.  Compete…win more than we lose…get to the postseason and win a game.  We fell short in a lot of areas this year, no argument from me there…but this was not a great roster from the beginning.  So if you thought more of them than they were capable of that’s on you.

 

we have a team full of roll players and Brice.  Even Juwan was a role player…he stepped up most of the season to have his best season by far.

 

lets also not assume Fred isn’t going after impact players in the portal…that’s another ridiculous notion…we didn’t get any this year…and it makes sense…when money doesn’t win out or facilities…or those wonderful fans…5 stars aren’t lining up to play basketball here regularly.

 

I’m of the opinion that we see what Fred does in the portal this offseason because it’s a huge turnover of the roster.  If we fall flat next year, which is possible…then we can have serious conversations about moving on from this staff…before then is just being an unrealistic fan…in my opinion.

I don’t think he will be fired but I also don’t think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I’m also with you on Ben McCollum although he’ll probably get hired by Iowa and then we’ll wish we had hired him. Guy is a winner.

I’m glad you put this out there.  I think this is where most reside.

 

We suck.  We’ve always sucked.  We should be happy with mediocrity.  It’s not Fred’s fault.  He’s trying.  If he doesn’t turn it around next year then……

 

Maybe someday we can have conference money, NIL and fan support that Creighton has.  Then maybe we could get a few of those 5 stars that get them tourney wins EVERY year. 
 

With the exception of Izzo, I think most of the B1G coaches make about the same salary.  Nebraska’s attendance is 5th in the B1G and 14th in the country.

Iowa will go after Darian Devries if they get rid of McCaffrey.  McCollum might be their second choice if Devries turns them down.

Players don’t care about butts in seats. They want to get to the league and win.  Creightons rise was a slow burn…and they did it mostly at a mid major level.  Once they got to the big east they were already established as a winner.

 

our facilities are top notch…we have money…lots of it.  We have the best fans in the nation (allegedly) but yet they still don’t come.:.because we have never won and we have 3 nba draft picks since the turn of the century. That’s not a hot take, that’s reality. 
 

in order to build a winner you have to over achieve with less so you can get better guys to reach the ceiling. We have never done that here consistently. 
 

I get your frustration…I really do.  But honestly, what are your realistic expectations for this program…knowing what you know about our program history?

 We have money, but it doesn't go to basketball.  I would guess that 95% of 1890's money goes to football & volleyball.
