Done with Huskers

Recommended Posts

My job takes me all over the US.

I always wear Husker gear out there, and it gets people talking to me about Husker topics, the latest one of which i feel very embarrased.

NU and the Husker football program is now a big joke in the eyes of the people of the USA.

The consensus is that people out there aren't fooled by what happened to Frank.

Everyone knows Frank was forced out because of wink wink, Nudge Nudge politics and greed that our program is now all about.

Those people out there know more about the booster/financial threats issues than I did. I NEVER heard about the things i was being told by outsiders concerning the Husker football program, and would never have believed it except that it came from EVERYWHERE!!

I was (((SHOCKED))) by what i heard from people in Nevada, Arizona, and California over the past 10 days or so.

POPULAR THEORIES:

I learned that recruiting good players to NU is tough because of a BAD reputation Nebraska money boosters and staff have with a WIN IT ALL or else... attitude.

I've heard Players are ALREADY afraid to come here, and now that the true colors are shown, Good luck getting great players here.

I heard stories about players being set up, then ratted out by boosters who wanted them out, or wanted then taken down because they weren't immediately spectacular athletes, but wouldn't bow to the corrupt system here by leaving.

Jamal Wouldn't play that sh#t, the $$$ booster gangsters wanted him out of the program but couldn't get him on anything, because he's a good citizen, so their wrath has taken down the coach, because Frank wouldn't bench him.

Also The arrest records of past Husker players somewhat bolsters this theory.

It's easier to list the players who haven't been in trouble, than to list all who have.

Pretty much, if our football team can't be the National champs every year, no one is safe. That's because people in Nebraska have nothing else to be proud of except for the BID RED kicking everyone elses ass. It's the only point of pride we have I guess............SAD!

This is what people think of us.

The things i already know are enough to make me rethink my position concerning further support for this team.

What i'm learning pushes me over the edge.

It's corruption, money, politics, and greed, (Plus taking another beating from K State that a top booster here at NU has lost bragging rights to, one too many times to a rival, rich bastard, ex college prick friend who's a K state fan, ETC.)

Hey! Who puts together a staff like NU did a year ago, then fires the coach after only the first season under the new staff after a winning season?

Someone who is forced to do so under the the pressure of money and corruption.

If the rest of the staff is smart, they'll leave too. I hope they do.

A great man like Frank doesn't belong in the trash heap that is THE NEW ERA OF NEBRASKA FOOTBALL.

I'm done with it.

Look for all this to come to the surface over the next year or so, because it will.

The media will put all the facts together, and then they're gonna JUMP HARD on it.

They're already talking this stuff up on the west coast sports radio programs.

Jim Rome is right.

Something stinks in Nebraska besides the cow doo.

I'm out!!

You make some good points captainbruce, but I have to say welcome to reality. dont get me wrong, this stuff concerns me too, but I find it almost more concerning that most everyone didnt realize this was happening in some form. I recognize the irreperable damage it has done to Husker Nations image, but it's time HN woke about and smelled the big business that is our program. After all, none of us complain about the glory and smell of money that the success has brought us, now its time to admit that the Nebraska football program is nothing short of corporate america in disguise. Deal with it.

johnnyredshoes,

You are absolutely, 100% correct here.

Big business always comes down to the nasty realities sooner or later, be it Husker nation, ENRON, Martha Stewart, Microsoft,...(You get my point)

Fact is we're probably well overdue considering the dynasty, and legacy we've enjoyed for much of the last 10 years.

I think waking up to it is just a little painful for some folks. (like......ME!)

Also I was confusing the fact that all this underhandedness was going on, with the fact that in reality people either don't care, or DO care, but will get over it real soon.

that's the reality, and i thank you for laying it out there like you did.

In repeating that btt about Nebraska having nothing else to live for, or hold our heads up for besides the Huskers winning, I was being a perfect example of that myself.

In my post, I realize I was mainly upset because of the black eye Husker Nation has recieved in the eyes of everyone else.

Why should I care so much?

I'm sure i'll get over it at some point.

Anyways,....Thanks again for your thoughts here. I appreciate them.

Jim Rome only has a show or any kind of following because he is good at getting

people riled up. That's it. He should be pumping gas somewhere.

Anyway, my whole take on this, again, is that mostly the stuff said here is hearsay.

I heard this, my friend heard that, I think this, I think that.......

When things like this happen, rumors and theories fly when really they make no difference.

The fact of the matter is that Pedersen was hired to do a job. To handle NU athletics

as he sees fit. That's exactly what he is doing. If this whole thing is a bad move, then

he will get his and shame on the people that hired him. If not, this whole discussion will

be forgotten.

People, especially here, have a hard time dealing with this because this has never happened

in modern NU football. Head coaches get replaced all the time around the country

and no one makes as big a stink as they do when it happens in Nebraska. I also

don't believe all the "corporate business" talk that's going around. That's BS. As I

said, this happens all the time when someone's boss doesn't think they can do the

job they want him do.

Does it matter than Pederson and Pelini have had a relationship in the past? No.

It's almost like some people expect coaches and admin people to never talk or create

relationships. And if they do, everyone thinks that they are just patting each other on

the back. No. You know people who will do a good job for you so you go with them.

You know they will do a good job because of past experiences. That's it.

As for what others around the country have to say, I could care less. As Nebraska

fans, I am sure you realize that any time the public and the media can put NU

down, they WILL do it. This is a honey pot to them. They can f*** off. I am not sure

where this general hatred of NU football came from. Maybe from years of us beating

up on most every other team :)

And remember, IT'S JUST FOOTBALL :)

GO HUSKERS

No problem CaptainBruce, sometimes you need anothers perspective to see through those Big Red Colored Glasses! Ive been guilty of the same thing before. ;)

And by the way, it is okay to care THAT much. But also realize that we Nebraskans have a lot more to live for than just NU football. That is a common misperception throughout the rest of the country, but is a huge misnomer. We are blessed in Nebraska with so many great things, it just so happens that our only national "soap-box"/window into our reality is via the Huskers - which leads people to believe that we only get this passionate about the Huskers. Wrong!

Think about most Nebraskans you know. Most ALL are extremely hard-workers, who do things all the way, the right way, every time they do something no matter what it is. Am I right? When Nebraskans channel their energy through the Huskers, it is simply another "outlet" for us to express our spirit and soul, and happens to be on a national stage. So the next time someone says "well all you have to be excited about in Nebraska is the Huskers", tell them they couldnt be more wrong. Our passion for the Huskers just happens to be a by-product of how we live our daily lives. We do not live fickle, overly materialistic or superficial lives thanks to our Great State, and this transcends into the Huskers.

So yes, we have MUCH more than the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team - having so much only allows us to be so passionate about everything we do - because we realize how fortunate we are. Other people wont be able to comprehend this, b/c most of what they have was "given" to them. i.e. The ocean, mountains, etc, and they have come to take this for granted, and b/c of this they are naturally less creative and ingenious in their daily lives. All of these attributes contribute to this "passion" that is exuded on the football team, and everything else we do, everyday of our lives.

There, I feel better. B) And all Nebraskans should too!!

The next time someone asks you where you're from, dont say the Husker state, tell them "THE GREAT STATE!!" We just also happen to have one of the GREATEST FREAKIN football teams ever! And always will because of the reasons I mentioned above. We are too proud, too strong, and too passionate, to ever accept anything but the best, in everything we do. One of those happens to be Husker Football!!

Bottom line.

GBR!!! :)
