Spiderman
Remember when we had stud bookend DE's like Tomich and Wistrom? Remember when both ends were actually supposed to go after the QB? I've always kind of wondered about, why does NU employ a scheme where one of the DE's is basically a DT lined up over the OT in hopes of drawing a double team? This leaves the defense with basically 3 DT's and one speedy DE on the "open" side. I'm sorry--as good as Carriker was, there's a reason he's playing NT at the next level -- it's because he's huge, and doesn't have a lot of true pass-rushing speed. Could this be contributing partly to the defensive woes we've seen? Quote Link to comment
newenglandhusker
I don't think anyone is going to argue that the defensive players are not being used correctly. I've also heard that Carriker (or Moore, I forget which) said he had to unlearn a lot of what he learned and then relearn the correct way. Anyone know if this is true? Quote Link to comment

With Carriker it makes sense--he made a change from end to NT. Quote Link to comment
